1 Medium Converter FL MC 0BASE-T/FO G0. Description The FL MC 0BASE-T/FO G0 medium converter provides a high level of noise immunity and a long transmission range in industrial applications by converting the 0 BASE-T Ethernet interface to optical fibers. The device can be operated individually as well as in modular hub stations. The supply voltage is V DC. In FL hub stations, the supply voltage is supplied to all the connected devices via a backplane integrated into the base of the device. In individual operation, the supply is provided using plug-in screw-cage terminal blocks. The converter has a link monitoring function, which separately indicates/monitors the operability of the cable connection and the connected devices for the twisted pair and optical fiber channels. It also automatically detects pairs of incorrectly connected receiving cables at the twisted pair connection and corrects them using the auto polarity correction function. If long distances are to be covered or if an existing glass fiber installation is used, the FL MC 0BASE-T/ FO G0 converter covers distances up to 00 m (.9 ft.) using multimode glass fiber. When connecting the supply voltage for operation in a FL hub station, please refer to the notes. Attention Disregarding this warning may result in serious damage to persons or property. Only qualified personnel may start up and operate these devices. According to the safety instructions in this text, qualified personnel are persons who are authorized to start up, to ground and to mark devices, systems, and equipment according to the standards of safety technology. In addition, these persons must be familiar with all warning instructions and maintenance measures in this text. The FL MC 0BASE-T/FO G0 module is designed exclusively for SELV operation in accordance with IEC 090/EN 090/VDE 00. Control cabinet mounting ' ) Figure 0 Install the FL MC 0BASE-T/FO G0 on a DIN rail in accordance with DIN EN 0 0. To avoid contact resistance only use clean, corrosion-free DIN rails. End clamps should be mounted on both sides of the module to stop the modules from slipping on the DIN rail. Mounting/removing the FL hub station J= C A Connect the DIN rail to the protective earth ground using a grounding terminal. The modules are grounded when they are snapped onto the DIN rail. Note: The device can be operated individually as well as in modular FL hub stations. In a FL hub station, the order of the various module types can be freely selected.. Fasten an end clamp next to the left-hand module to stop the modules from slipping.. Place the module onto the DIN rail from above. The upper holding keyway must be hooked onto the top edge of the DIN rail (Figure 0).. Push the module from the front towards the mounting surface.. Once the module has been snapped on properly, check that it is fixed securely on the DIN rail.. Snap the other modules to be contacted onto the DIN rail side by side. Figure 0. Push the second module (from the left) along the DIN rail to the left until the pin strip/socket strip of both modules are interlatched and the sides of both modules lie flush with one another.. Now push the other modules together from right to left as described above (Figure 0). Removal:. To remove a FL hub station, the FL module on the right-hand side must be pushed to the right until the entire pin strip/socket strip is released (Figure 0).. Pull the locking latch down using a screwdriver, needle-nose pliers or similar.. Pull the bottom edge of the module away from the mounting surface.. Connecting the Supply Voltage The module is operated using a + V DC SELV... Operation as an Individual Device: Provide the supply voltage for the module via terminals US and GND. As an option, an additional power supply unit can be connected to terminals US and GND to provide a redundant voltage supply. Both US/US voltages are forwarded on the backplane. Please refer to the nominal currents specified in the data sheets for the selected FL modules. The supply voltage US, and if applicable US, may only be supplied to one of the modules and never to several modules. If a hub or hub agent is present in the station, the supply must be provided to one of these modules. Twisted Pair Interface (Twisted Pair Port).. 0Base-T Interface The FL MC 0BASE-T/FO-G0 has an Ethernet interface on the front in RJ format, to which only twisted pair cables with an impedance of 00 Ω can be connected. The data transmission rate is 0 Mbps. The interface can detect a pair of incorrectly connected receiving cables (RD+/RD-) and correct them using the auto polarity correction function.... For medium converters the Ethernet connection must always be established via the 0Base-T interface. The medium converter does not use the Ethernet signals of the backplane... Diagnostic Indicators Link Control Twisted Pair Path (RJ): The line monitoring checks the connected cable segment for a short circuit or interrupt. To do this, the partner must send link or data signals. The LED (green) lights up if no error has occurred. An interface that is not being used or a terminal device that is switched off is indicated as an error and the LED goes out. Data Control Twisted Pair Path (RJ): The data LED (yellow) flashes depending on the amount of data that is received by the 0Base-T interface. Selecting the Correct Connecting Cables for Use Between Ethernet Components To connect Ethernet components, use either crossed cable pairs (CROSSOVER) or linear connected cable pairs (LINE,:). In general, linear wired cables are required between structure components and terminal devices, whereas crossover cables are used for connections between two structure components and for connections between two terminal devices. The correct cable can be selected using the following table. To distinguish between the two cable types, green bending protection bushings should be used for crossover cables, and gray bending protection bushings for linear wired cables (LINE, :). They protect the send and receive elements. The same applies to the protective caps for the connectors... Optical Fiber (FO) Connection During operation, do not look directly into send diodes, or use visual aids to look into the glass fibers. The infrared light is not visible.. Connect the optical fiber cable to the B-FOC (ST ) connector for the send and receive channel and push the connector clamp mechanism downwards.. Secure the connection with a quarter turn to the right (Figure ). ' ) Signal direction for the fiber connection Figure Be aware of the optical fiber cable signal direction when coupling two medium converters: Module fiber connection TD (sender) to module fiber connection RD (receiver) (Figure ). General Notes Follow the cable manufacturer's technical data when handling the various optical fiber cables. In order for the communication path to be protected against interference, the permissible values for the bending radii, strain, and pressure strengths must not be exceeded. Optical Power Measurement After Initial Installation After the installation of an optical fiber connection, the optical power can be checked before the receiving device using an optical fiber measuring instrument. The sender must be operated in an ambient operating temperature from 0-0 C ( - ºF). The limit values already include the fluctuations caused by the temperature. Remove the RJ connector to interrupt data communication. Apply the operating voltage to the module (the green LED is on). The converter now sends LINK pulses via the FO interface. Observe the two measurements for the forward and return cable shown in Figure. The measured values indicated must be reached. Configuration Information Two inspections must be carried out to determine the limits of the system configuration. Both inspections must be passed, otherwise transmission errors may occur. It is recommended that a network plan (Figure ) of the system is created and the possible signal paths and collision domains are systematically determined and evaluated. Network plan.. Evaluating the PEV (Path Equivalent Value): The PEV indicates the signal delay of an Ethernet package using a network component. It is specified in meters. For safe data transmission, the signal delay total plus the maximum length of the cable installed 0 m (9.0 ft.) between any two network devices in a collision domain must not be exceeded. Only hubs, medium converters, and transceivers should be included in the calculation.
