4 Japan s contribution Major Contributions AFTER establishment of the Cooperative Mechanism Project 3 : Demonstration Trial of AIS-B Transponders in Small Vessels in the Singapore Strait Japan donated 10 AIS class B transponders to the littoral states Japan undertook parallel study on reliability of AIS class B transponders Project 5: Maintenance and replacement to Aids to Navigation Japanese private sectors have contributed $10.1 million to ANF The Government of Japan supports the project through in-kind cooperation 3

11 Joint Hydrographic Re-survey in the SOMS Joint Hydrographic Survey by Malacca Strait Council and OTCA (at present JICA) Joint Hydrographic Re-survey by JICA. PROBREM ]] Condition and topography of the sea beds in some areas have changed due to strong tidal current. Traffic volume in SOMS is steadily increasing COUNTERMEASURES 16 years have passed Using multi-beam echosounder rather than single-beam system for obtaining more accurate data Updating Electronic Navigation Chart using collected data EFFECT Contributing to navigation safety and protection of marine environment 10

12 Joint Hydrographic Re-survey in the SOMS In response to the request from littoral states of SOMS, MLIT-Japan has an intention to propose the Multi-beam Joint Hydrographic Survey, if 39 th TTEG decide to conduct surveys and ask Japan to support it. Phase 1 : 5 critical area in TSS Funded by the Japanese Shipowners Association etc. Implementation period : 2015 to 2016 Phase 2 : Entire/main area of TSS except the 5 critical areas Possible contribution from financial resources of Japan If official proposals from the littoral states meet all the necessary conditions contingent on 39 th TTEG approval. Implementation period: 2016 to
