The gauge must be powered by a 9 15 V DC power source. Do not exceed these limits. The V reference signals must be used for thermoresistances and VDO sensors. Pins labelled as Y, Z and K represent the battery voltage output signal. These pins must be used for those sensors which need to be powered by an external power source (speed sensor, lap receiver). Temperature sensors and pressure sensors must not be connected to these pins. How to power the gauge The gauge must be powered by a 9 15 V DC power source. Do not exceed these limits. It is suggested to use 0.5 mm diameter unifilar wires. See the following table in order to correctly connect the power wires. Pin MS connector Signal Cable colour R + V battery (input 9-15 V) Red P GND Black Connect the red wire to the battery s positive (+) pole and the black one to the negative (-) pole. 3 How to connect a thermocouple Temperature sensors (thermocouples or thermoresistances) may be connected either on channel Temp 1 or on channel Temp 2. It is reminded to use compensated cable to connect the MS connector to the Mignon connector (shown in the following picture). See the following table in order to correctly connect a thermocouple (in this example, for instance, the thermocouple has been installed on channel Temp 2 ). Pin MS Signal Pin Mignon Cable colour B + Temp 2 + Yellow T - Temp 2 (GND) - Red + Mignon connector pinout: top side view - How to connect a thermoresistance Temperature sensors (thermocouples or thermoresistances) may be connected either on channel Temp 1 or on channel Temp 2. GEAR As Dash ST1 displays channel Temp 1 inside the left square display (blue highlighted in the drawing shown beside), it is suggested to connect the thermoresistance sensor (which is usually used to measure the cooling water temperature) on channel Temp 1. x1000 rpm mod.416tg It is suggested to use a 4 x 0.14 wire to connect the MS connector to the Binder 719 connector (shown in the following picture). See the following table in order to correctly connect the thermoresistance on channel Temp 1. A + Temp 1 1 White S - Temp 1 (GND) 2 Black D V reference 1 4 Blue Case 1: you want to connect a PT100 AIM thermoresistance If you bought a PT100 AIM thermoresistance for Dash ST1, inside the sensor s connector it is mounted an SMD resistance between pins number 1 and 4, as shown in the following pictures. The value of this resistance is 2 kω 1%. Sensor Ω 1% kω 1% Male. Solder Binder 719 male: resistance installation Dash ST1 wiring: version
4 Case 2: you want to connect an on-board thermoresistance If you want to connect an on-board thermoresistance (i.e. a sensor you bought from another manufacturer), you have to mount the SMD resistance inside the input cable s Binder connector. The resistance must be installed, as previously shown, between pins number 1 and 4 (i.e. between signals + Temp 1 2 and V reference 1 2 ). The value of this resistance is not a unique value, but depends on the sensor s characteristics and manufacturer. In this case it is suggested to contact AIM in order to have the correct information concerning the resistance s value. How to connect a VDO sensor VDO sensors (pressure and temperature) may be connected on one of the 4 analog inputs. It is reminded that you may connect a VDO temperature sensor on channels Temp 1 or Temp 2 and you may connect a VDO pressure sensor on channels Press 1 or Press 2. See the following table in order to correctly connect a VDO pressure sensor (in this example, for instance, the sensor has been installed on channel Press 1 ). C + Press 1 1 White U - Press 1 (GND) 2 Black D V reference 1 4 Blue Case 1: you want to connect an AIM VDO pressure sensor 1 4 If you bought an AIM VDO pressure sensor, inside the sensor s connector it is mounted an SMD resistance between pins number 1 and 4. The value of this resistance is 1.8 kω 1%. Case 2: you want to connect an on-board VDO sensor (pressure) If you want to connect an on-board VDO sensor (i.e. a sensor you bought from another manufacturer), you have to mount the SMD resistance inside the input cable s Binder connector. The resistance must be installed, as previously shown, between pins number 1 and 4 (i.e. between signals + Press 1 2 and V reference 1 2 ). The value of this resistance is not a unique value, but depends on the sensor s characteristics and manufacturer. In this case it is suggested to contact AIM in order to have the correct information concerning the resistance s value. How to connect the Lap receiver See the following table in order to correctly install the lap receiver: X Optic lap 1 White c GND 2 Black Y +VB (output) 3 Red X Optic lap 4 Blue 1 4 How to connect the Speed sensor See the following table in order to correctly install the speed sensor: L Speed 1 White b GND 2 Black Z +VB (output) 3 Red Not connected Dash ST1 wiring: version
5 How to connect the on-board Gear sensor The gear sensor is usually an on-board sensor which is powered by the vehicle s battery: in order to correctly sample the engaged gear it is enough to connect the gear signal on the correct connector s pin. See the following table in order to correctly measure the engaged gear. G + Gear 1 White W - Gear (GND) 2 Black Not connected How to connect the external Gear flash The external Gear flash is a sensor made up of some coloured led which start flashing when the engine s maximum RPM value is reached. See the following table in order to correctly install the external Gear flash. H Gear flash 1 1 White Not connected 2 J Gear flash Red K +VB (output) 4 Blue 1 4 How to connect the RPM sensor The RPM signal may be sampled either from the ECU or from the coil. The RPM signal sampled from the ECU is,usually, a 12 Volts square wave signal and must be connected on pin M ; The RPM signal sampled from the coil must be connected on pin N. It is reminded NOT to connect the RPM coil signal on pin M. To connect either the RPM signal from the coil or the RPM signal from the ECU, NOT BOTH (this event creates shortcuts). It is suggested to use 0.5 mm unifilar wires. See the following table in order to correctly measure the RPM channel.
