This device is designed to operate blind and not with visible circuitry, in this manual is shown the printed circuit board in order to explain the behavior of the system and for understanding purposes. It won t be necessary to open it and in no parts of the manual it is mentioned to open it. This electronic switch is designed to operate in electrical home installation, faulty connections or wrong uses may result in fire or electric shock. All activities on the device may be performed only by a qualified and licensed electrician. Observe national regulations. Even when the load of the relay is turned off (load terminals not energized), voltage is present in the power supply terminals.

5 DESCRIPTION The is the RFTide device used for radio controls of AC 230 V loads. It can activate or deactivate the output with a RFTide message from the Control Unit or directly from the electric switch properly connected to it. Basically, it s composed by a power relay with 10A switching capability and a RFTide radio module working at MHz. There are two terminal blocks where it s possible to connect the power supply AC 230V, the load and the electric switch. Once the command of activation is on (from the Control Unit or from the electric switch), the load will be powered with AC 230 V. This device is suitable for house and office purposes, in particular it is designed to fit in junction boxes model 503E. Figure 1 Upper view of the module with and without cover

6 Figure 2 Inside view with description FIRST CONFIGURATION a. Connect the device as per Figure 3 and Wiring and power on chapter at page 7. Remind to follow step by step the instructions and do not connect the power supply line till the activities are done. b. Follow the instruction on Learning procedure section at page 8. c. TIPS for arranging the antenna: 1. Locate the antenna as far from metal elements as possible in order to prevent interferences. Metal surfaces in the vicinity may impair signal reception. 2. Do not cut or shorten the antenna, the length is matching the band which the device is working.

7 I. Wiring and power on DEVICE MOUNTING AND CONNECTIONS Figure 3 External connections schematic In order to obtain the functionality of the device, these steps must be followed: a. Connect the load to the terminal blocks 2 and 4 as per Figure 3. b. Connect the electric switch on terminal block 3, be sure during the installation that the switch is open and isolated. c. Connect the power supply AC 230V to the terminal blocks 1 and 6. After the previous activities, the electric switch will activate the load independently to the radio module. In order to let the device communicate to the Control Unit through the RFTide network follow the learning procedure at page 8.

Mounting recommendations In order to have a correct installation and to avoid malfunctions of the device some basic rules must be followed: Before plugging in the power supply at point c of the Wiring and power on section be sure to have fixed the electric switch and the load properly. Do not bend or remove the RF antenna, this could cause malfunctions to the radio part. Connect the cables with proper terminations and ferrules. I. Learning procedure DEVICE SETTINGS In order to let the device communicate with the Control Unit of the existing RFTide network the following steps must be done: 1. Keep pushing the Learn button (see Figure 2) for about 3 seconds, till the red led turns on. 2. Till 15 seconds, the Control Unit has to send a PROGR_MESSAGE signal to the device. That message must contain the node address which the sensor will be assigned and the Network ID. 3. If the message is received, the red led must be blinking for a while, then it turns off. II. RFTide Communication It is possible to establish a communication between the and the Control Unit by using the RFTide protocol. MAINTENANCE Here follows some cases which could be resolved easily. The Control Unit doesn t receive any message from the RELAY module: There could be radio issue, it s necessary to repeat the learning procedure as described in the chapter DEVICE SETTINGS at page 5. The device can t be detected from far distances: Be sure to have connected the device properly as per Figure 3 and check the RF antenna. Try with some more close communications then
