14 Highlights precision & dynamics optimum position control Each VECTODRIVE has the same basic technology: our ARADEX control and thus above-average control for maximum precision and dynamics. 17 Highlights virtual sensors Industry 4.0 since 1994 We have been practicing the principles of Industry 4.0 for more than 20 years: generating information from the internal measurement and control variables of the inverter that you can use for your application in real time without any further sensors at all. This means, for example, that you can determine the drive torque with high resolution without an additional torque sensor and use it as a control variable as well. The application possibilities are almost limitless: spark detection without an impact noise microphone, early drill breakage detection, wear control for gears, detection of eccentricities, etc.... for more process control in real time Visit us at the ARADEX ComCenter and experience live the advantages that our virtual sensors create for your application. 17

18 Highlights Sensorless controlling starting at 1% of the nominal motor speed With our sensorless control procedures for PM synchronous motors, the motor is set with a few standard parameters and is almost insensitive to manufacturing tolerances or changes to the ambient temperature. We regulate without sensors and with a controlled torque or speed starting at only 1% of the nominal speed. And that with PM motors with nominal speeds of a few revolutions per minute up to 100,000 rpm. Furthermore, the whole torque can be called up over the entire speed range, without any additional Hall sensors or encoders. When determining the angle of the rotor, we achieve a resolution of up to 1024 increments per pole pair... for all applications where additional position encoders have more disadvantages than advantages 18

23 Applications Application examples ARADEX has realized around 2500 different application in the past 25 years. This has resulted in an extensive software library with numerous technology modules. We have a solution for your application as well. 23

24 Applications optimum web tension In web-processing machines, information on the web tension between the different processing plants is often required for an optimum process control. The classic way via deflection rollers, dancer rollers, and sensors not only results in considerable extra costs, but the installation of the measuring units also requires space. In addition, the dancer rollers touch the material web and can thus inadvertently affect it. The ARADEX control in the VECTODRIVE family allows you to use the torques and thus the web tensions for your process via the internal control value analysis without sensors, additional built-on accessories or affecting the material web. maximum interpolation Even if you do not have film stretching lines with 726 drives all controlled together: The team of a VEC- TODRIVE drive inverter and a VECTONUM high-performance control shows its superiority in controlling many interpolating axes. All drives are controlled isochronously and logged isochronously as well. Our chronoscope in the VECTONUM allows the simultaneous recording and analysis of up to 30,000 measured quantities and variables, as with a gigantic oscilloscope. Furthermore, the analysis depth here extends to the motor torques as well. Everything is in real time and during running operation, around the clock... 24

25 Applications... for web processing... optimum smooth running and accuracy for web processing optimum torque The uneven course of the torque in drive motors can produce visible and undesired stripe patterns with printing presses. Such torque variations generate undesired vibrations and material effects in other web-processing machines as well. The TRC technology module stops the cause directly at the source: the motor. Even in the case of motors that have been optimized for other characteristics such as size or price and have a certain torque waviness as a result, our VECTODRIVEs with TRC function achieve an almost perfect smooth running. 25

26 Applications spark detection The function of sparking visible spark formation when the grinding wheel starts to touch the workpiece is now realized with impact noise microphones. These react within a few milliseconds and usually before the actual sparking. We have the same function in VECTODRIVE as well only without the impact noise microphone! With a response time of typically 2-3 milliseconds, the VECTODRIVE detects the tiny increase in the torque of the grinding wheel when the accompanying air stream swirls on the workpiece. This is as fascinating as it is reliable, robust and economical. optimized dressing In the case of grinding processes and other machining processes with undefined cutting, one of the main problems is the feed force and clogging of the grinding wheel, as well as the dressing necessary to remedy this. The grinding process usually takes place in a purely web-controlled manner after a sequence that was previously determined to be optimum. Our VECTODRIVEs allow an alternative sequence, controlling for a particular machining force, and monitoring of the resulting feed. This shortens the average processing time and creates reproducible results. In practical applications, it was also possible to reduce the number of dressing cycles considerably. This directly results in significantly lower tool costs. 26

27 Applications... for cutting processes drill break detection... great performances for machining, sensitiveley controlled and perfectly observed. In machining, VECTODRIVE spindle drives allow deep insights into the machining process in real time as well as a very high resolution. In the case of a 50 kw drive spindle, it was thus possible to detect a 2 mm drill with a power consumption of 10 watts during the machining of aluminum. In addition, a tool break about to happen due to a jammed chip etc. was reliably prevented within a few milliseconds. In the case of 3-blade milling cutters, for example, you see each blade individually in your cutting force curve process control can hardly be any deeper, and that without additional sensors. 27

28 Applications electronic cam disks Whether for roller feeders, notching presses or press transfers: electronic cam disks are the right function, in analogy to earlier mechanical solutions. Short cycle times and faster controllers are a matter of course for this application. Increase the reliability and accuracy of your machines while simultaneously reducing the costs for encoders and mechanical transmission elements. press force monitoring The integrated, high-resolution determination of effective motor torques in the VECTODRIVE family often allows an optimum process control in real time completely without additional sensors. And if you want to analyze additional force sensors: a VD50 will do that for you too. As a result of its analog inputs in real time, it not only optimally records the external information but correlates it isochronously with the internal measuring variables of the drive control and thus provides you with higher-quality information. 28

29 Applications... for forming technique punching... dynamic and accurate movement in 24/7 continuous operation, even in the roughest forming environment Our VECTODRIVE inverters control motor torques in 0.1 to 0.5 ms, even in high performance classes. This allows you to perform a larger number of interventions that are more effective in forming or punching process, especially in the case of servo presses and servo punches. This also opens up new possibilities in combination with the integrated torque measurement in real time. This includes the optimized movement of the tool, depending on the course of the pressing force in the area of the yield point during forming. Or an active attenuation of machine shocks and noises during punching processes. You have the know-how regarding the process; we supply you with the tools for implementation. 29

30 Applications pumps The function of the virtual torque sensors creates added value without added costs. Dry running detection and blocking protection are basic tasks. Moving PM motors with a high efficiently without sensors is part of the repertoire. The PM motors controlled without sensors can also be used to control a constant feed pressure, for example. Do you want to detect cavitation effects? Or do you want to estimate the viscosity of the pumped medium? And all that without sensors? We look forward to your ideas for adding value to your products. fans Controlling a fan with a variable speed is one of the oldest tasks of frequency inverters. Do you need additional control tasks for the fans? The integrated PLC of the VD5 and VD50 often allows you to dispense with additional controls. You save money and space and increase reliability. Together with the virtual sensors, it will quickly become possible for you to identify when installed air fans have to be replaced, for example completely without additional sensors and thus do this more economically and much more reliably. 30

31 Applications... for pumps & fans maximum speed Fast means speeds of even considerably more than 100,000 rpm. Fast rotating turbines can offer significant advantages in various application areas. We offer corresponding solutions for drives and generators.... perfectly controlled even without sensors! In addition to the standard models limited to a 600 Hz rotational frequency, we also offer you high frequency versions of the VECTODRIVE products that achieve rotational frequencies up to 5000 Hz. Particularly in these applications, our sensorless control and the virtual torque sensors show their strength. 31

32 Applications weight measurement Picking up an object in one place and then transporting it to another this is a subtask for many machines and installations. Depending on the task, our VECTODRIVEs offer advantages through maximum dynamics and accuracy as well as through the ability to use measuring encoders with a lower resolution and possibly a sturdier structure or smaller design. External sensors are directly read in the drive inverter and processed in real time; in 0.5 ms with the VD50, and even faster with special sensors. However, our virtual sensors can also support your application: for example by recognizing whether an object is actually being transported by determining the mass being moved.... dynamic positioning with minimum overshoots 32

33 Applications... for movement transport paths Depending on the automation and drive technology task, advantages can be found in solutions with a central control or even in distributed solutions where the drive inverter has locally placed intelligence. 34 Applications motors & gears Due to their very high accuracy and dynamics, the VECTODRIVE family is optimally suited for equipping test benches. The applications here range from test benches for electric motors or hybrid drives, to gear test benches, up to simulators for transport vibrations or earthquakes. DC / battery simulation Today s batteries have a much faster current increase than 10 years ago and have to be simulated during development. Current steps of 1000 A within less than 1 ms are required, which makes very high demands of the dynamics of the current control. 34

35 Applications... for test stands bidirectional In the case of test benches with a total output of sometimes more than 1000 kw, it is a good idea to create a closed system that sends the energy in a loop.
