Figure4 2.2 Download FeasyBeacon APP FeasyBeacon APP is available on Apple APP Store and Google Play. Before using the beacon, please install the APP first. 2.3 Set FeasyBeacon Parameters 1. Open FeasyBeacon APP, in the FeasyBeacon Beacon interface, you can see the beacons nearby. (as figure5) 2. Press the Setting button in the middle of the menu. After entering Setting interface, select the beacon from the listing which with the strongest signal. 4 3. Input the default password: (as figure7, figure8) Figure7 Figure8 4. After connected successfully, you can config the beacon parameters or add new broadcasts, click Save after finished. (as figure9, figure10) Figure9 Figure10 1> Change the device name 2> Change the device password, where it shows pin. 3> Interval: Set the beacon broadcast interval in milliseconds. 4> TxPower: This value decides the work distance. Support to change the TxPower when need a shorter distance or save the battery life via -21dBm to 5dBm (-21dBm shortest,5dbm longest range) 4

5 Remarks: (BP109 already with the best work condition, no need to set the TxPower) 5> Delete the beacon broadcast 6> Set the beacon broadcast parameters 7> Add Beacon : Add a new broadcast 8> Choose the beacon broadcast type 9> Fill in the beacon broadcast parameters 10> Click Add to Finish 11> Click the Save (Save the new added broadcast of the beacon) 5. Eddystone Introduction 3.1 What is Eddystone Eddystone is an open beacon format developed by Google and designed with transparency and robustness in mind. Eddystone can be detected by both Android and ios device. The Eddystone format builds on lessons learned from working with industry partners in existing deployments, as well as the wider beacon community. Several different types of payload can be included in the frame format, include: Eddystone-UID: A unique, static ID with a 10-byte Namespace component and a 6- byte Instance component. Eddystone-URL: A compressed URL that, once parsed and decompressed, is directly usable by the client. 3.2 What is Eddystone-URL Eddystone-URL is a component of the Eddystone specification for BLE beacons. The Eddystone-URL frame broadcasts a URL using a compressed encoding format in order to fill more within the limited advertisement packet. Eddystone-URL must be less than or equal to 18-bytes in length. In order to carry more data, we can compress URL. compress rules, the following data can be replaced by 1 byte. 7 .com 07.org 08.edu 09.net 0a.info 0b.biz 0c.gov 0d If a web page is particularly long and has been compressed by over 18 bytes, should use to shorten the URL and then add it to the beacon device. Eddystone-URL can be used with Nearby or Physical Web. Nearby notifications require the website to meet certain requirements, eg HTTPS-only, robots allowed, etc. The following web link can test that the URL is supported or not. Nearby only scan beacons when the users turn on their smartphone s screen. Therefore the notification might not appear until the user interacts with their android smartphone. (as figure14,15) Figure14 Figure15 If your notification is not performing well (users rarely tap on it, or ignore it, which can be interpreted as the notification being not that useful), Nearby Notifications might stop delivering it to the users. For Eddystone broadcast, user can use free Google Nearby/Physical Web for receiving notifications. For ibeacon broadcast, users need to use Google Nearby or a mobile app for receiving notifications. 7

8 3.3 How to set Eddystone-URL to Beacon device Follow the steps below to add a new URL broadcast Figure16 Figure17 Figure18 1. Open the FeasyBeacon and connect to the beacon device 2. Add a new broadcast. 3. Select the Beacon broadcast type 4. Fill in URL and RSSI at 0m parameter 5. Click Add to Finish. 6. Display the new added URL Broadcast 7. Click Save (Save the new added URL broadcast of the beacon) 8. Now, the added beacon URL broadcast will show on Feasybeacon APP Remarks: Enable: Circle on Right Circle one left, disable the beacon broadcast,enable the beacon broadcast. 3.4 What is Eddystone-UID Eddystone-UID is a component of the Eddystone specification for BLE beacons. It contains 36 hexadecimal digits composed of 20 hexadecimal digits Namespace ID, 12 hexadecimal digits Instance ID and 4 hexadecimal digits RFU, split into 3 groups, separated by hyphens. Eg A-0B0C0D0E0F Each of the 3 groups must contain the following number of characters per section: First section: 20 Second section: 12 Third section: 4 Characters should be number from 0 to 9, and letters from A to F. A group can be made entirely of just number or letters or combination of both. 8

9 3.5 How to use Eddystone-UID Eddystone-UID can be used with the Android system s Nearby. First you have to create a UID that has not been registered by anyone else. Then make the UID setting for the beacon. And register it on Google s server and associate the UID with the corresponding push information on the Google s server. Once the configuration completed, when the android device turns on smartphone s screen, Nearby will scans the surrounding Beacon device automatically, and the corresponding push information will be displayed. If ios devices need to use Eddystone-UID, must install an app, because the IOS system does not provide direct support. 3.6 How to setting Eddystone-UID to Beacon device Follow the step below to add a new UID broadcast Figure11 Figure12 Figure13 1. Open the FeasyBeacon APP and connect to the beacon device. 2. Add a new broadcast. 3. Select UID broadcast type. 4. Fill in UID Parameters. 5. Click Add to Finish. 6. Display the new added UID Broadcast 7. Click Save (Save the new added UID broadcast of the beacon) 8. Now, the added beacon UID broadcast will show on Feasybeacon APP 3.7 What is Nearby? Nearby is a feature of google service it works on Android 4.4 and above. You can find it in Android device, via Setting->Google->Nearby. Nearby can receive the beacon message when approaching the beacon, and display it on the mobile device. 9

10 3.8 How does Google Nearby work Google Play service continuously scans for beacon devices in the background. Once it detects a beacon in the range, it sends queries to the Google Nearby database to check if the beacons have any attachments. If a beacon has any Google Nearby notification attached to it, it displays it to on the mobile device. 4. Forget password If miss the password, you can access the beacon with the default password (000000) within 1 minute of repower-on the beacon. Please follow the steps below: 1. Re-power the Beacon device. 2. Enter FeasyBeacon APP, connect beacon device by default password (000000) in the setting interface. 3. Change new password and save it. 5. Firmware upgrade We will keep on updating the new version of FeasyBeacon APP, SDK or firmware, which will optimize the using experiences or add new functions. 10
