Katrina has two fronts for response: South Florida crossing Louisiana and Gulf states entry Florida Emergency Management assigned to help with Mississippi relief Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) North Florida Section, requests emergency amateur radio operators ARRL South Florida Section, relays request HAMs Brevard Emergency Amateur Radio Service (BEARS)/FSEC responds Bill Young gets Mississippi Assignment September 12, a call for amateur radio operators for emergency communication in Mississippi was received On September 16, Bill responds to call for FSEC/Brevard Emergency Amateur Radio Service On September 17, Bill, radio and solar equipment stages at Florida Emergency Operation Center (EOC) in Tallahassee, FL

3 Finally in Mississippi Where do I stay? Deployment to Mississippi. Hancock County Emergency Operation Center in Bay St. Louis is destroyed, so temporary EOC is located in Kilm On September 18, arrive in Kilm for station assignment On September 19, arrive at Charles Murphy School shelter, clinic and Point of Distribution (POD) in Pearlington On September 26, check out solar systems On September 28, end assignment and return home

11 Temporary Housing Until With their Mobile home in the street, owners live in tents until a FEMA trailer arrives. Biloxi, Point of Distribution POD managed by various Faith organizations. New Life Evangelistic Center provided two portable PV systems with 700 W inverters.

18 WQRL FM commercial radio Radio antenna and 15 kw diesel generator for transmitter in Bay St Louis. Relocating the WQRL studio Owner, Brice Phillips, with radio antenna and studio relocating to another location in Kilm to support the temporary EOC.
