2 Intrductin In the Wrking Dcument are tw mechanisms using well knwn, abslute time mments: 1. Candidate channel selectin, which can identify the c-channel and adjacent channel interference, as perceived in the listener channel. 2. Signaling t ad-hc systems, which has the scpe the separatin f the remaining interference in the time-dmain. In [1] there is n crrelatin between the timing f the tw mechanisms, such that frm time t time they may verlap. The scpe f this cntributin is t prpse a nn-verlapping timing fr the tw mechanisms. Overview f the existing timing The timing fr the Candidate Channel Selectin is shwn belw: Accrding t the standard, the duratin f a MAC frame is max. 20ms. The examples prvided in [1] shw the pssibility f starting a CTS slt at the abslute times 00:00, with increments f 6sec. The timing fr the signaling t ad-hc systems is shwn belw:

4 On the ther hand, the radi signaling prcedures use 5 intervals, and every interval needs a 20ms slt. Will be better t spread these slts, t reduce the latency in data transmissin. Prpsal It is prpsed t change the perid f radi signaling, t 12sec and the start f the radi signaling, t start at 3:000, 15:000, 27:000, 39:00 and 51:00sec. Due t the fact that the OFDM signal duratin, fr a 5MHz channel, is well knw, there is n need t indicate the reserved perids fr registratin. Instead, the registratin interval can be sltted, such t allw fr prpagatin delays. This will make the prcess shrter. The ad-hc devices requesting registratin will chse randmly ne slt inside the requested subframe, fr sending their registratin request. The registratin NACK will be sent in the registratin respnse interval, using the same slt as the device requesting registratin, if a NACK will be sent. The used intervals shall be spread as fllws: AT2=AT1+1sec, AT3=AT1+2sec, AT4 (registratin replay) =AT1+4sec, AT5=AT1+10sec (IP address transmissin). Text fr the Wrking Dcument Implement the fllwing changes: Registratin The h pr-active cgnitive radi apprach defines signals and prcedures fr the reservatin f the activity intervals and registratin f ad-hc systems. The peratinal prcedures are described belw: h Cmmunity registered systems, using a Cexistence Prtcl, will reserve the MAC frame Tx/Rx intervals by using, during the MAC Frame N, starting at the abslute time AT1, cgnitive signals t indicate the MAC Tx_start, MAC Tx_end, MAC Rx_start, MAC Rx_end. These signals are transmitted by Base Statins and Repeaters. These prcedures will repeat after T_cgn secnds; the values f these parameters are specified in chap N regular data transmissin shuld take place 20 ms frm the start f AT1 (the maximum MAC frame duratin). During the MAC frame starting at the abslute time AT2, cgnitive signals will indicate the beginning and the end f Master sub-frames, by transmitting signals indicating by their transmissin start the Tx_start, Tx_end, Rx_start, Rx_end fr the specific sub-frame; these signals are transmitted by Base Statins, Repeaters and thse SSs which experiences interference, at intervals equal with N cg MAC Frames; n regular data transmissin shuld take place 20 ms frm the start f AT2 (the maximum MAC frame duratin). During the MAC frame starting at the abslute time AT2, will be indicated the psitin f the timeslts, in each Master sub-frame, t be used during the MAC Frame starting at the abslute time AT3fr registratin using cgnitive signaling. The start f the Rx_slt signal will indicate the start f the time-slt. The MAC frame starting at the abslute time AT4 AT3 is the beginning f a registratin interval using the cgnitive signaling; the registratin interval has the duratin f Tcr_reg secnds; The adhc transmitters shall use during the MAC frame starting at the abslute time AT4AT3, the marked master sub-framesslt fr sending their radi signature. The radi signature will be used fr the evaluatin f the ptential interference during the Master slt, t systems which use the sub-frame as

5 Master systems. The next transmissin pprtunities fr sending the radi signatures use time-slts having the duratin as indicated previusly and repeating every Tcr_rep sec during the Tcr_reg interval. The radi signature will cnsist f a preamble and a MAC header, sent n the wrking channel and using the same pwer and sub-carrier allcatin, as used in the regular data transmissin mde; The sub-frame starting at Tx_start is sltted, each slt having the duratin f 100µs. The tramsmissin f a radi signature will start at a slt bundary, as perceived by ad-hc systems. N ranging assumptins were taken in the assessment f the slt duratin. An ad-hc radi unit (BS, Repeater r SS) will send this signal using a randm access mde fr Tcr_reg secnds, using the sub-frame intended fr their regular transmissin (BSs and SSs use different sub-frames fr transmissin). The ad-hc transmitters will have t use the registratin prcedures every Tad_reg secnds. N regular data transmissin shuld take place 20 ms frm the start f AT3 (the maximum MAC frame duratin). Registratin replay The radi units using the Master sub-frame will send a NACK signal, during the MAC Frame starting at the abslute time AT4, and using the same sub-frame as used by the un-acceptable transmitter, t be sent in a randm mde during the next Tcr_reg_ack secnds, if they appreciate that the ad-hc transmitter will cause interference. Typically, t a registratin signal sent during a DL sub-frame, the NAK will be sent by ne r mre SSs, while t a registratin signal sent during UL sub-frame, the NACK signal will be sent by a Base Statin. The radi units using the Master sub-frame will send their respnse in randm mde. The NACK signal indicates that the requesting ad-hc device cannt use the specific subframe, while using the requesting radi signature Same device may try again, if using a different radi signature (fr example, lwer pwer). Lack f respnse, fr Tcr_reg_ack secnds, indicates that the registratin is accepted fr transmissin during the specific sub-frame. n regular data transmissin shuld take place 20 ms frm the start f AT4 (the maximum MAC frame duratin). Candidate Channel Selectin, presented as useful fr the detectin f the c-channel interference, can be used in a much larger scale fr interference determinatin. A slt is reserved fr NON systems, which may, in the future, t signal their presence in a cntrlled mde t systems. 2. Signaling t ad-hc systems, by using a simple, well-knwn PHY transmissin, with increased pwer n the used sub-carriers, this mde has a better level f penetratin. These transmissins may be detected in the future by nn systems, and used by them fr chsing an ptimal peratin channel. Fr NON systems, these mechanisms are cmplementary: the first will allw t NON systems t signal their presence t systems, while the secnd will permit t NON systems t: - Detect the ptential interference t be caused by systems in bth frequency and time dmain - Select the perating channels and time intervals, such that will avid t interfere with systems. Will be useful the insertin f a new Chapter in the Wrking Dcument, highlighting the use f these tw mechanisms fr better c-existence with NON systems. Text fr the Wrking Dcument Add new paragraph (if cntributin C802.16h-06/28 will be accepted, shuld be a new chapter 15.10) Cexistence with NON systems In cntinuatin we prvide a review f the main mechanisms that can be used fr prviding better spectrum sharing with NON systems, ther than thse cnsidered as preferred spectrum users. The Candidate Channel Selectin, presented as useful fr the detectin f the c-channel interference, can be used in a much larger scale fr interference determinatin. A slt is reserved fr NON systems, which may, in the future, t signal their presence in a cntrlled mde t systems.
