Satellite Carrier Monitoring systems, Satellite Interference Location systems Assuring satellite signal quality, Solving timely interference situations Satellites allow critical communication in any area of the world. To have them operative up in the sky it represents a long process and huge effort. To assure the quality of service is a must to be achieved in any circumstances. The Problem is: The quality of satellite signals can be affected due to interferences reducing bit rates in some cases to zero. Page 6
Satellite Carrier Monitoring System The essential tool to assure satellite signal quality Page 7 Other important functions: Automatic and Manual Monitoring (Spectra, Carrier, Selected Band, Content) Alarming and Reporting Interference Detection, Classification, Geolocation Line-Up with cross-polar Transponder Performance Antenna Pattern Verification Cross-Co polar isolation And many more... With high precision, for all used frequencies & modulations, for any satellite constellation
About Interferences Interference Detection and Classification Satellite Signal Interferences are accidentally caused in almost 90% of the cases, mainly due to antenna misalignments. However there is still about 10% of interferences made on purpose Example of intentional interference Denial of Service due to Jamming Page 8
About Interferences Interference Problem Mitigation, Interference Source (Geo)Localisation Page 9 Traditional localization using two satellites Receiving Antennas Signal Acquisition units Signal processing CMS Main Satellite experiencing Interference DSP DSP ILS Geolocation processing Second (Adjacent) Satellite Unknown Transmitter station Flight Dynamics Receiving Antennas Signal Acquisition units Signal processing Common database for CMS and ILS Localization with only one satellite DSP CMS Common database for CMS and ILS Main Satellite experiencing Interference ILS Geolocation processing Unknown Transmitter station Flight Dynamics Existing systems can identify the presence of interference by using two or more satellites. However in many cases an adjacent satellite is not available. Identification and localization of satellite interferences in one single system and with one satellite in order to take counteractive measures effectively. The introduction of a carrier ID will help identifying accidental interferences. It will take several years since all satellite signals include it. Will not help in case of intentional interferences
Siecams Siemens CMS and ILS system Fully Integrated CMS and ILS Multi Site, Multi Satellite Ka band Monitoring ILS two sat / ILS one sat Carrier ID support Content Monitoring Transponder Performance Automatic alarms and reports And much more Siecams provides more than a decade of permanent innovation Page 10
