bed_anl_skodamelody_gb.qxd :47 Uhr Seite 4 Important Operating the radio while driving Attention! When driving, please give absolute priority to focusing your attention on traffic! The demands of today s road traffic require the constant full attention of motorists on driving. The extensive functionality of modern car radios provide, aside from a full complement of entertainment features, also a variety of information about traffic, weather conditions, etc. Please make sure that you operate your radio only when traffic conditions allow you to do so. Please note the following tips! Familiarize yourself with the extensive functions of your car radio prior to driving, if necessary, consult this operation manual. Please, change basic settings that are usually changed infrequently or only once, for instance, in the setup menu, prior to driving while the car is at a standstill. Comfort Radio Code Should you experience uncertainties about the functions of the car radio or unforeseen effects, clarify these with the help of the operation manual while the car is at a standstill. Adjust the sound volume inside the car so that you are able to hear acoustic signals from the outside at all times. Comfort Radio Code Your car radio is equipped with a specific security code. The input of the security code is required only at the time of initial operation of the radio in the car. After the initial input of the security code, the radio registers itself in the car in which it is installed. Therefore, the input of the code number is not required after the car s voltage supply has been interrupted. In this case, the car radio automatically verifies the data of the car when the ignition is turned on. The renewed input of the security code is required only if the radio determines that it has been in stalled in a different car. Should you not have received a specific security code with your car radio, your car is equipped with a comfort code system that does not require the input of a security code. In case of disconnection and reconnection of the car s battery, first insert the ignition switch into the ignition lock and then switch on the car radio. Should you wish to receive a separate code, please contact the service department of your koda dealership. Since the unit is able to function only after input of the correct code, it cannot be operated after being stolen and installed in another car, thus effectively protecting the radio against theft, When the car radio and the ignition are switched off, a flashing LED indicates that the theft protection is activated. 4

When this mode is selected, the radio is ready to receive (Traffic Announcements). In this mode, the radio is only able to receive FM stations with traffic announcements. Traffic announcements are played at a minimum volume as previously set in the setup menu. Traffic announcements also interrupt cassette play. 4 5 After the end of a traffic announcement, the radio returns to the previously selected operating mode. TP stations are identified in the display by the indicator TP. The reception of a traffic announcement is indicated in the display by INFO PRGNAME. Should the tuned-in TP station be out of range, this is indicated in the display by NO TP. The radio will now automatically tune in the next receivable TP station. This is indicated in the display by NO TP TP SEEK. Should you not wish to receive traffic announcements, please tune in the desired station in one of the FM modes (FM1 or FM2).

bed_anl_skodamelody_gb.qxd :47 Uhr Seite 8 Radio RDS Functions RDS (Radio Data System) enables displaying the name of the currently received station. While on the road, RDS automatically searches for and tunes in alternate frequencies, if the reception of the selected station becomes weaker, in order to guarantee the best possible reception within the region of the station, even under difficult conditions. Storing RDS Stations To store an RDS station, press the corresponding preset station button only after the station name appears in the display. This assures that all RDS data have been received and, if required, are stored in the memory. Also make certain that no "running text is displayed during storing, since otherwise this text is stored instead of the station name. When a stored RDS station is recalled, the corresponding station name appears in the display. If the stored frequency cannot be received, the radio will automatically select an alternate frequency (best station function) of the same station. General notes In case of difficult reception conditions, for instance, in mountainous terrain, the unit will frequently check alternate frequencies. When this is in progress, the radio may be muted briefly. Function principle of RDS In addition to the normal radio signal, an RDS station broadcasts an inaudible, digital data stream. This data stream contains, among others, the following data: Station identification (SI Code): The SI code enables the radio to detect the name of the currently received station Station Service Name (SS Code): The SS code transmits the station name to be shown in the display. Some stations transmit additional information via the SS code to be shown in the display. Alternate frequencies (AF list): As a rule, a station broadcasts from several different locations on various different frequencies. The AF list contains the frequencies that the radio may tune in for this station. Traffic Radio code (TP Code = Traffic Program; display = TP): Code for a station with traffic announcements. Announcement code (TA = Traffic Announcement): The radio is able to detect a traffic announcement by means of the TA code. If required, the volume is increased and cassette operation is temporarily interrupted. EON (Enhanced Information Concerning Other Networks) Stations that use EON adopt traffic announcements from another station. During the broadcast of the traffic announcement the name of the other station is shown in the display 8

bed_anl_skodamelody_gb.qxd :47 Uhr Seite 9 Cassette Deck Play Fast forward and reverse Ejecting the cassette Autoreverse function CC MELODY 11 MEL 13 6 GB 12 Play an audio cassette, with the tape side facing to the right, into the cassette slot. This starts the cassette mode, which is indicated in the display by TAPE PLAY and the corresponding tape direction FOR or REV. Autoreverse function Thanks to the autoreverse function there is no need to turn the cassette over when the end of the tape is reached. The cassette drive detects the end of the tape and automatically reverses the direction. To change the direction of play manually, briefly press the button. Fast forward and reverse While the cassette is being played, press the button (fast reverse) or (fast forward) to wind the tape correspondingly. Fast forward or reverse is indicated in the display by WIND and the corresponding direction FOR or REV. Depending on the settings of the setup menu (RM), during fast forward or reverse the unit switches to the radio mode or is muted. At the end of the tape, the fast forward or reverse winding is stopped automatically and playback of the tape is resumed. To cancel fast forward or reverse winding manually, press the button CC. Switching to radio mode Press the A/P or TP to switch from cassette to radio mode. The cassette is not ejected. Restart cassette playback by briefly pressing the CC. Ejecting the cassette To eject the cassette while the unit is in cassette mode, press the button, keeping it depressed for a few seconds. The cassette is ejected and the unit switched to the radio mode. 9

bed_anl_skodamelody_gb.qxd :47 Uhr Seite 10 Cassette Deck Traffic announcements Tips on cassette use Cassette mode and traffic announcements If the radio was in TP mode prior to insertion of the cassette, the cassette playback is temporarily interrupted and the unit switched to the radio mode for the duration of traffic announcements. After the traffic announcement, the unit automatically resumes playback of the cassette. Tips on cassette use For the best possible playback results, we recommend the use of chrome dioxide or metal cassettes with a maximum running time of 90 minutes (C90) or less (C60). Do not affix any stickers on the cassette case. Owing to heat during cassette operation these stickers may come loose and impair the operation of the cassette drive. Do not expose cassettes for longer periods of time to extremely low temperatures (below -10 C) or high temperatures (above +50 C). Keep in mind that, in sunny weather, temperatures inside the car may be considerably higher than those outside the car. For that reason, avoid exposing your cassettes to direct sunlight. Store audio cassettes in their cases. On the one hand, this protects them against dust and, on the other hand, it prevents "binding of the tape caused by the vibrations of the moving car, thus preventing disturbances during playback. We also recommend the use of original cassette storage systems with spool arresting devices, which are available for most car models. Cleaning the magnetic head Cleaning the magnetic head Should the playback start to sound dull after a prolonged period of use, this is probably due to tape abrasion accumulated on the magnetic head. The accumulation of dirt on the magnetic head can be removed by using a wet cleaning cassette. Use only cleaning cassettes by reputable manufacturers and observe the instructions for use supplied by the cassette manufacturer. We recommend cleaning of the magnetic head after every 100 hours of operation. Depending on the kind of cassettes used, cleaning of the magnetic head may be necessary in shorter intervals. 10

bed_anl_skodamelody_gb.qxd :47 Uhr Seite 11 Setup Menu 6 Access the setup menu by pressing the button TP, keeping it depressed for a few seconds. 13 bed_anl_skodamelody_gb.qxd :47 Uhr Seite 12 Setup Menu GALA The noise level inside the car rises with increasing speed. Your radio is equipped with a feature called GALA (Geschwindigkeits-Abhängige Lautstärke-Anpassung) that automatically adjusts the volume to make up for road and wind noise as you drive. The amount of volume increase can be pre-selected with settings 1 to 9. The setting NO disables the GALA function. Select GALA from the menu. GALA will appear in the display, showing the currently set value. Set the desired value (NO to 9), by turning the knob. Briefly press the button TP or the control button to store the displayed value and access the next menu item, or o close the setup menu without storing the change by pressing the button TP, keeping it depressed for a few seconds. ON VOL This menu item is used to set the maximum volume when the radio is switched on. Normally, the radio returns to the last volume setting before it was switched off. However. should this volume level setting exceed the maximum volume level set in the setup menu, it is reduced to this value. Select ON VOL from the menu. ON VOL will appear in the display, showing the currently set value. Set the desired value (NO or 1 to 9), by turning the knob. Briefly press the button TP or the control button to store the displayed value and access the next menu item, or o close the setup menu without storing the change by pressing the button TP, keeping it depressed for a few seconds. TA VOL This menu item is used to set the minimum volume for traffic announcements. In the TP mode, this causes the radio, if necessary, to raise the volume when a traffic announcement is received. In this way, you are able to drive with the radio volume turned down without missing any traffic announcements. Select TA VOL from the menu. TA VOL will appear in the display, showing the currently set value. Set the desired value (1 to 45), by turning the knob. Briefly press the button TP or the control button to store the displayed value and access the next menu item, or o close the setup menu without storing the change by pressing the button TP, keeping it depressed for a few seconds. 12

AUTO-REG/REG OFF This menu item is used to enable or disable switching to alternate frequencies of regional programs. The setting has the following effect: should the reception quality of the radio broadcast deteriorate while on the road, your radio will initially switch to alternate frequencies of the currently heard program only. Should all alternate stations be out of range, the radio will then switch to a "related program. For example, the radio station NDR 1 broadcasts different regional programs for Schleswig-Holstein (NDR 1 SH), Hamburg (NDR 1 HH) and Lower Saxony (NDR 1 NDS). Since these programs at times broadcast different regional content, a frequency change may also result in a program change. When the function "AUTO-REG (autonomous regional programs) is enabled, the radio switches to regional programs only if nothing else is available. 13

bed_anl_skodamelody_gb.qxd :47 Uhr Seite 14 Setup Menu REG OFF The setting REG OFF allows unrestricted switching between "related regional programs. Select AUTO-REG/REG OFF from the menu. AUTO-REG/REG OFF will appear in the display, showing the currently set value. Set the function as desired to AUTO-REG or REG OFF by turning the knob. Briefly press the button TP or the control button to store the displayed selection and access the next menu item, or o close the setup menu without storing the change by pressing the button TP, keeping it depressed for a few seconds. RM (Radio Modus) This menu item lets you choose whether or not your radio should switch to the radio mode (RM ON) or should be muted (RM OFF) while you are fast forwarding or reversing a cassette tape. Select RM from the menu. RM will appear in the display, showing the currently set value. Set the function as desired to ON or OFF by turning the knob. Briefly press the button TP or the control button to store the displayed selection and access the next menu item, or o close the setup menu without storing the change by pressing the button TP, keeping it depressed for a few seconds. 14

bed_anl_skodamelody_gb.qxd :47 Uhr Seite 15 Setup Menu LOUD The human ear perceives extremely high or low frequencies not as well as frequencies in the center of the audible range. The loudness function compensates this weakness by slightly raising the low and high frequencies, particularly when listening to music at low volume. Select LOUD from the menu. LOUD will appear in the display, showing the currently set value. Set the function as desired to ON or OFF by turning the knob. Briefly press the button TP or the control button to store the displayed selection and access the next menu item, or o close the setup menu without storing the change by pressing the button TP, keeping it depressed for a few seconds. 15

bed_anl_skodamelody_gb.qxd :47 Uhr Seite 16 Security Code Security Code When the radio is switched off and the ignition key is removed from the ignition lock, the flashing LED indicates that the theft protection system is armed. This theft protection electronically prevents the operation of the radio in another car. Should you not have received a specific security code with your car radio, your car is equipped with a comfort code system that does not require the input of a security code. In case of disconnection and reconnection of the car s battery, first insert the ignition switch into the ignition lock and then switch on the car radio. Should you wish to receive a separate code, please contact the service department of your Skoda dealership. Comfort Radio Code When the radio is switched on for the first time after installation, the comfort radio code feature stores the code number not only in the radio, but also in the electronic system of the car. Should the power supply of the car be interrupted and reconnected, the radio compares the internal number with the number stored in the car. 16 If these numbers match, the radio is immediately ready for operation. Should the numbers not match, the radio prompts the user to input the security code. The code number should not be kept in the car, but in a safe place at home. Only then the radio will be of no use for thief. Entering the code Please be certain to observe the correct input sequence and input the correct code number. Also refer to page 4, "Comfort Radio Code". Switch the radio on. SAFE will appear in the display. After about 3 seconds, the display shows Now, input the first digit of the code using preset station button 1. Repeat the above step for the other three digits of the code, using preset station buttons 2 to 4, until you have entered the complete code number. Confirm the input of the code by pressing the control button, keeping it depressed for about 2 seconds, or by pressing control button. The radio is now ready for operation Incorrect Code If you have inadvertently entered an incorrect code, the indication SAFE will flash in the display. After a few seconds, the display will change to Now, repeat the input of the code as described above. Should once again an incorrect code be entered, the radio will be locked electronically for one hour. After one hour (the radio must remain switched on during this time), you can re-enter the code number once again, as described above. This cycle can be repeated until the correct code is entered. Should you have forgotten or misplaced your security code, please contact the customer service department of your koda dealership.

bed_anl_skodamelody_gb.qxd :47 Uhr Seite 17 Operation with Multi-Function Steering Wheel* Multi-Function Steering Wheel (MFSW) If your car is equipped with an optional multi-function steering wheel (MFSW), some of the radio functions may also be operated from the buttons on the steering wheel without taking your hands off the wheel. You will find a description in the Owner's Manual of your vehicle. 17
