1 Installation and operation of the FlyDream 2.4GHz DIY module (IS8Dv3). The FlyDream 2.4GHz DIY module is designed to be installed in any ppm radio that does not accept the standard JR or Futaba modules. It is a very easy system to use, but it depends on you finding the necessary inputs in your radio. It can be wired in to completely replace the existing RF board (as below). Signal / ppm + - ppm + - TX Board Alternatively, it can be wired into the ppm signal stream in parallel with the existing RF board, so that you can change from your existing MHz frequency to 2.4Ghz (and back again) at the flick of a switch. The schema for doing this is shown below.

IS8D setup. The IS8D can accept both ve (JR type) and +ve (Futaba type) polarity ppm signals. There is a switch in the top left hand corner of the IS8D to select these.

The three wires coming into the RF board from the transmitter board are :- Top (White) = GND (-ve) = 0.00V Middle (White with small writing) = PPM signal = 0.7-0.8V Bottom (red) = +ve voltage = 9.

3 Converting a JR This example does not use a switch to select between MHz and 2.4Ghz. The IS8D is wired directly into the RF board inputs. Take the back off the transmitter (remove the crystal first, then the antenna). The RF board is the brown board right in the middle. The three wires coming into the RF board from the transmitter board are :- Top (White) = GND (-ve) = 0.00V Middle (White with small writing) = PPM signal = V Bottom (red) = +ve voltage = V Voltage is measured relative to ground (-ve) on the battery terminal Remove the RF board and the antenna fitting. It will look like the picture below. Cut the three wires between the computer and the RF board, leaving enough room to be able to solder to the wires coming from the transmitter board. Put heatshrink tube on each wire, solder the brown wire on the Fly Dream DIY module to the top white wire, the yellow wire to the middle white wire (with small writing), and the red wire to the red wire. Push the heatshrink over the soldered joints and shrink. Check that everything works as intended. Bind a receiver as below.

4 Bind receivers 1. Turn the transmitter on. Make sure that your transmitter is set to PPM (FM) mode, and then turn the transmitter off. Note: Receivers will not bind if the transmitter is set to PCM mode. 2. Press the BIND button on the TRANSMITTER module and turn on the transmitter. The LED on the module will light green for 0.5s then go off for 1s. Release the button within this 1s. When you have changed to BIND mode, the LED on the module will flash between red and green. You are then ready to bind the receivers. 3. The binding procedure for IS-4R(0)(see 3A) and IS-6R and IS-8R (see 3B) 3A: IS-4R0&IS-4R 3B:IS-6R&IS-8R Plug the FD code ring into the 4th channel. Press and hold the button on the receiver (under the Vthumb sign). Connect the receiver to the battery, The LED on the receiver will light. Immediately pull out the FD code ring (The LED lights for 2 seconds, make sure to pull out the code ring within 2 seconds). The LED will flash quickly and go out. This shows that the receiver has bound to the module. Connect the receiver to the battery. The LED on the receiver will light red (about 2S), Immediately (while the LED is on) release the receiver button. The LED will flash quickly several times and go out. Turn off the power to the receiver. Turn off the power to the receiver. If you do not want to bind more receivers at this time, turn off the transmitter If you do not want to bind more receivers at this time, turn off the transmitter. 4. Check system operation. Turn the transmitter on. The module LED should be green. Connect the receiver to the battery. The red LED on the receiver will flash three times (now it is searching for the frequency) and light red, indicating the receiver is operating properly. The LED on the receiver will not light when there is no signal. 1. Once the Transmitter module and Receiver are successfully bound, there is no need to bind again if you add extra receivers. In the extremely rare event (1 in approximately 13 million) that another FlyDream system uses the same ID it is possible to reset the ID by pressing both BIND and RANGE buttons together. (Note:- do NOT do this unless you want to reset the ID. There is absolutely no need to do this in normal operations.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

2 mm hole at 7mm centres, place it over where you want the bind, range check buttons and LED to be, and accurately drill the case (make sure that the order of the holes matches the correct position

5 When you are sure everything is working, install the little board with bind and range check buttons and LED, and then the antenna. Install the board with the bind and range check buttons and LED as follows. Use the template with mm holes and mm hole at 7mm centres, place it over where you want the bind, range check buttons and LED to be, and accurately drill the case (make sure that the order of the holes matches the correct position of the button / LED module, before drilling). I chose to use the back of the case, above the crystal position. Insert the button / LED unit and make sure it fits and the buttons do not bind. When satisfied, glue the board to the case (I used hot melt glue). Make sure you don t get it in the buttons. Install the antenna by sliding the brass fitting into the antenna hole in the front case. Screw on the antenna and position the brass fitting in the antenna hole where it suits best. Hold it with a ring of hot glue.

6 Antenna mount in original antenna hole. Hold with hot melt glue. Position the IS8D module approx where the old RF board was. Put the case back together. Add a label so you can tell the bind and range check buttons apart.

Check that it all works again. Set failsafe as below.

7 Add a label on the case to show which button is which. I simply printed out a label in 8pt type and stuck it to the Tx with clear tape. The finished job. Check that it all works again. Set failsafe as below. You can now proceed to install the receiver(s) in your model(s) and set up to fly. The FlyDream V3 system has an easy to set FailSafe system that operates on all channels. Follow the instructions below to set up failsafe and range check before flying.

8 Set Failsafe Set failsafe after initial binding or when you change the receiver to another model. It is best to set failsafe with the receiver connected to all the functions that you intend to use in your model. IS-4R0 & IS-4R 1. After initial binding, turn on the transmitter. 2. Plug into FD code ring to the 4th channel. Connect the receiver to the battery (or turn on the power switch on the receiver). The LED on the receiver will light then go out. Take off the FD code ring immediately the LED comes on. (The LED will light for only 2 seconds. Make sure to get the code ring off within 2 seconds.) The LED on the receiver will then stay on. 3. Move the joystick of your transmitter to where you want the surfaces / motor etc to be in the event of lost signal. Turn off the transmitter. The receiver will flash several times; this shows the receiver has remembered the position which you have set. In the rare event that your system losses signal, all channels will return to the position which you have set. 4. Turn off the power to the receiver. Failsafe is now set. 5. Check that failsafe works, by turning on the transmitter then the receiver / model. Turn off the transmitter. The controls should go to their preset position. They will return to those on the transmitter when power is restored. 6. After setting failsafe and making sure the receiver works normally, plug the servo into the 4th channel. 7. Go Fly. IS-6R & IS-8R 1. After initial binding, turn on the transmitter. 2. Press and hold the button on the receiver (under the V-thumb sign). Connect the receiver to the battery (or turn on the power switch in the receiver). The LED on the receiver will light for about 1s and then go out. Immediately the LED switches off, remove your hand from the receiver button. The LED on the receiver will then go on. 3. Move the joystick on your transmitter to where you want the surfaces / motor etc to be in the event of lost signal. Push the button under the V-Thumb symbol. Turn off the transmitter. The receiver will flash several times; this shows the receiver has remembered the position which you have set. In the rare event that your system losses signal, all channels will return to the position which you have set. 4. Turn off the power to the receiver. Failsafe is now set. 5. Check that failsafe works, by turning on the transmitter then the receiver / model. Turn off the transmitter. The controls should go to their preset position. They will return to those on the transmitter when power is restored. 6. Go Fly. Range checking For safety, we suggest you conduct a range test before each flying session. 1). Have a friend hold the model for you. Position the model at least two feet (60cm) above the ground. If you don t have anyone to help you, use something like a wooden bench (do not use a metal bench or support). Make sure the model cannot move under its own power. 2). Press the RANGE button on the module and turn on the transmitter. A red LED will briefly illuminate then a yellow LED will come on.this indicates Range Check mode. Continue to hold the button down while checking range. As soon as you let this button go it will switch into full range mode (Led will go Green).

9 3). Move joysticks in the transmitter and verify that the model is responding normally. Move the transmitter away from the model up to 50m (IS6R, IS8R) or 30m (IS4R). If the control surfaces move as expected it shows the Transmitter module and receiver are working as expected and can be safely used. If control is lost, or the model behaves abnormally, please check and resolve any problems before conducting another range test. Do not fly if the range test fails and cannot be fixed. During the range test the Transmitter module will have a range of approx 30m (IS6R, IS8R) and 20m (IS4R). In normal power mode, range is greater than 1,200 meters (IS6R and IS8R) and >600 meters (IS4R). Attention: 1. Range is affected by the environment.please range test in the open away from any obstacles. 2. If the transmitter is too close to the receiver (about 5cm) the receiver may not work. Simply move the transmitter away from the receiver. It will work fine if the transmitter and receiver are more than 1m apart. 3. Do not fly unless it is safe to do so.
