2 BA (Hons) Photography L6 Direct Entry UCAS Code CA08 (1 Year) Stretch your creativity and focus on your photography career You'll be studying within 15 miles of central London where the largest number of photographers and photographic companies in the UK have their premises. This proximity enables you to build meaningful industry links during your work placement and enables staff to organise regular visits to exhibitions, festivals and events. Our photography programmes provide at the core an engaging framework in contemporary photography. Students develop a strong understanding of visual culture and artistic freedom in art and commercial practices. 3 What will I learn? Photography has a strong history and tradition that has helped shape societies attitudes over much of the last two centuries both within the fields of contemporary art as well as design and communication. If anything the importance of the medium is becomming more crucial in all aspects of commercial and creative practice with the development of global mass communication. Our reserach has found that employers are very keen for applicants to hold a full degree and this programme will enable you to pursue your own interests in photography whilst being stretched academically. The structure of this programme will be the same as that delivered at our partner institution UEL. However, you will be able to enjoy the vocational emphasis that our institution has placed on the programme in light of the photography facilities that are available. This one year programme functions as a third year top up to the Foundation Degree in Photography or an HND qualification. You will be requiired to study for a minimum of 35 hours per week - this will be made up of a combination of lectures, seminars, practical workshops, independent study, research and practical work. Modules include: - Photography 3 - Art & Design Dissertation - Advanced Professional Contexts The BA (Hons) Photography programme is accomodated within the purpose built suite of specilaist rooms, workshops and studios. The department can provide all processes both digital and analogue in-house and free at source. The colour processing laboratories include colour E6 and C41 processing, colour and B&W analogue darkrooms, digital suite and two large double height studios, one with a 'drive-in' facility. 4 How will I be taught? Our approach is very learner-centered, with the opportunitiy for you to pursue your own specialist pathway within the broad field of photography. - Studio Project Work - Professional Practice - Self-initiated Work - Seminars - Lectures - Group and 1:1 tutorial sessions - Visiting Guest Lecture Visits - Workshops - Study visits Field Study Visit Each academic year students will have the opportunity to attend a group visit to a European city. The purpose of the trip is to engage with professionals and artists through a series of organised appointments/workshops. Previous trips have included Paris and Berlin, with appointments made with magazines, photographers, artists, galleries, and musicians/record companies. Students also develop a broader understanding of the international photography industry. Professional Engagement Professional engagement plays a major part of the programme and enables students to gain essential skills in developing a professional network. This takes place in a variety of forms including national and European trips and visits to creative individuals/companies; a programme of visiting guest lectures; work experience/internships; tutorials with practicing creative; internal and external student exhibitions; visits to conferences, symposiums and talks. A key document to the organisation of the teaching and learning on your programme are the module handbooks, which will be issued at the beginning of each semester. These handbooks will outline the lecture programmes, the assessment tasks and will enable you to plan your research, worksops and practical work. Practical photography assessments will be double marked and academic work will be second marked anonymously. All assessment tasks will be clearly described in the module handbooks.

5 What qualifications do I need to qualify for this course? You must have either a Foundation Degree in Photography, a BTEC HND in Photography or an equivalent HE qualification at this level and subject. For internal progression from Barking & Dagenham College's FdA in Photography you will be required to attend an interview to establish the suitability of progression to BA (Hons) Photography. For external applicants you need to demonstrate that there is a significant overlap between the programme content of your qualification with that of the FdA. What can I do after this course?
