4 Scope and Contents The Buildings and Grounds Photographs Collection provides a visual timeline of the museum and the surrounding property's physical growth, architectural changes, renovations, and various uses from 99 to the present. Additional images in this collection relate to the history and physical locations of objects in the sculpture gardens and the Period Rooms decades prior to installation at the BMA. Copies of architectural renderings are also found in this collection. Formats in the Buildings and Grounds Photographs Collection are negatives, copy negatives, photographic prints, copy prints, contact prints, slides, copy slides, and digital formats. The majority of items dated before 9 are copy formats produced after 90. Many spaces of the BMA served multiple functions over time; the physical space remained, but the name changed according to use and/or donor dedication. For more information about these multi-use spaces, see the Finding Aid Historical Note. Arrangement The Buildings and Grounds Photographs Collection contains five series: Interior (Series ), Exterior (Series ), Grounds and gardens (Series ), Construction and renovations (Series ), and Miscellaneous spaces (Series ). Series - are arranged alphabetically by subject, and chronologically within each subject. Series and are arranged chronologically. For series with alphabetical arrangement, spaces named after an individual are labelled with the individual's full name and alphabetized by the last name (ex., "Hazel Ann Fox Court" is arranged by "Fox"). Spaces named after two or more individuals are labelled and alphabetized by the collective last name only (ex., Cone Wing, Levi Sculpture Garden, Meyerhoff Auditorium, Berman Textile Gallery, Thalheimer Galleries). These buildings include the main museum property at 0 Art Museum Drive in Wyman Park, as well as past branch locations and storage facilities throughout Baltimore City. Some parts of the museum, such as the Museum Shop and Cafe, moved between multiple interior locations throughout the BMA's history; this also means that individual spaces often served multiple functions over time. In such cases, cross-reference notes indicate related materials. The series includes images of construction and renovations in progress, as well as images of architectural plans and drawings. Many photographs in this series related to the East Wing construction were taken by the Turner Construction Company and compiled into albums, which have been disassembled for conservation reasons.
