CoroCAM 6D Core Function The core function of the camera is to capture UV and visible channel images. The images are fused to show the user where the discharge source is located. Because the discharge event is sporadic a sequence (video) of images are required to effectively show the discharge activity for diagnosis.
CoroCAM 6D New Features July 2012
CoroCAM 6D UV Signal A/I A/I = Averaging and Integration The corona discharge is a sporadic event, consequently it s intensity varies from frame to frame, this is clearly not ideal. Therefore the CoroCAM 6D allows the user to average the UV signal over a number of frames. The averaging evens out intensity differences in frames and reduces the effect of noise from the environment on the image. The averaging is done on a per frame basis, allowing the UV channel to be 100% live. Sequence of frames Average of the sequence above
CoroCAM 6D UV Signal A/I Under some conditions a small UV signal needs to be integrated over a number of frames to make it visible. Full integration of the sequence. The UV signals can be integrated by increasing the integration gain. Sequence of frames When an A/I period is selected, the camera performs a NonUniformity Correction (NUC) to remove system noise from the count. During the NUC, the camera gain is dropped to zero, the count measured for the A/I period, this value is then subtracted from the count achieved at the gain the user sets. The NUC period is the same as the A/I period the user set, so the NUC can take a while when the A/I period is long. The integration gain is also set to the default.
CoroCAM 6D Fault numbering Camera users usually capture multiple image of a fault. Afterwards it may be hard to see which images are related. Therefore a function was added to number the faults. The fault number value is added to the file name, making it easier to sort images when doing reporting. i.e. At the beginning of an inspection session the user would rest the fault number to 001. The images, videos and meta data of the first fault found and recorded will all have the 001 fault number prefixed to their file names. When the user moves on to the next fault he increments the fault number to 002. The CoroBASE software (when completed) will import the files from the camera and attach all images, videos and meta files with the same fault number to the same data point in the database.
CoroCAM 6D Spectrum The CoroCAM 6D is the first camera which shows the user which spectrum bands are being displayed. This avoids the user missing discharges due to the UV spectrum not being displayed. UV & Visible displayed Visible only UV only
CoroCAM 6D Labels Many users require annotation labels to be added to images. We didn t want to clutter the user interface with many keys. The solution was to allow the user to select labels from a csv-text file. There are 4 columns in the csv file, each can have up to 16 entries which the user can edit from a smart phone or tablet. There are 4 label locations, each linked to a column in the csv file. Label location can be activated individually. The user can scroll the available entries.
CoroCAM 6D Count Sampling The CoroCAM 6D has 3 sizes of sampling areas: Small Medium Full Screen
CoroCAM 6D Count Method The CoroCAM 6D features a new method to count corona discharge events and reflect the intensity of the discharge. In the past blob counting was used to count each photon event detected by the camera. This is suitable for low intensity discharges, where the chances of the photon events overlapping and forming a larger blob was minimal. When the photon events overlap the blob counting method becomes unreliable.
CoroCAM 6D Count Method However, when the blobs overlap, the intensity of the pixels under the overlapped area increases if the UV image is not saturated. Using a complicated formula, which takes into account the camera settings, we ve managed to calculate a count value which stays consistent. Changes to the gain, threshold, window size and NUC will change the count value.
CoroCAM 6D UV Opaqueness. For diagnosis of the fault it is necessary to see the visual cause of the discharge. With the corona overlay the cause of the discharge usually hidden under the corona blob. Traditionally the user would have to record 2 images, with and without the corona discharge blob By controlling how the UV and visible images are fused the CoroCAM 6D allows the corona blob to be come transparent, allowing the operator to see the visual cause of the discharge and necessitating only the capture of one image for reporting.
CoroCAM 6D UV Colours To maximise contrast between the corona blob and the background on the visible camera the user can select various colours. The colours can be either one of the 4 presets Alternately, one of 100 hues can be selected, resulting in an entire rainbow of colours.
CoroCAM 6D Recording / Playback The CoroCAM6D can record: Still images in jpeg format Videos in avi format using the H.264 encoding. A csv file containing the meta data associated with each image or video capture is also recorded.. Audio can be recorded with the video clips using the onboard microphone or a headset (best quality).. The CoroCAM6D can playback the still images or videos recorded onto the SD card. The type of file played back depends on the active camera mode setting. i.e. if the camera is in photo mode it will playback the still images. If the camera is in video mode it will playback the video clips.
CoroCAM 6D Output image We recognized that users wanted a neat interface but that they didn t necessarily want to record the interface. So we gave the user the choice of recording: the display activity, a simplified report image an image with no overlays, the data is in a meta filed saved with the image. The Display recording The Report recording The OSD off recording
CoroCAM 6D USB The CoroCAM 6D can be connected to a PC via a microusb port. When the camera is set to USB mode the user can download images and videos from the cameras. The CSV annotation file can also be edited. In the near future the remote control unit / pc software will be available to control the camera via the USB port.
CoroCAM 6D Camera Operation Training September 2012
Operating the CoroCAM 6D The CoroCAM 6D uses hot keys to access various types of user settings. Keys 1 6. Multiple presses of the hot key are used to navigate the tabs. Long-pressing the hot key give access to the setup menu s.
Operating the CoroCAM 6D The quick guide sticker on the camera. Old version shown
CoroCAM 6D Operating Each button (1-6) may be pressed up to 3 times to access different tabs. Tab one active in the above example. Under each tab there may be up to 4 items to be selected / toggled and one variable value which can be changed using the F/B keys. Long press the S-Key to reset the selected value to its default.
CoroCAM 6D Key #1 Tab #1 Gain and Zoom control The Zoom can be set to either 0.5x, 1x or 2x of the system zoom using the L/R keys. The default is 1x. 1x Zoom = 8 x 6 Angle of View 2x = 4 x 3 ; 0.5x = 16 x 12 Gain sets the amplification of the UV signal, the value can be set from 0 to 100% amplification using the F/B keys. The default is 85%. Long pressing the #1 Key will cause the laser pointer to activate, it will de-activate when the key is released.
CoroCAM 6D Key #1 Tab #2 A/I control. The ʃ# designates the number of frames over which the averaging or integration will occur. The ʃ-gain allows the operator to set the number of frames over which to average the signal. i.e. For averaging, the signal is summed and then divided by the number of frames taken into consideration. For maximum integration the signal is summed and divided by 1. Integration is used to make small signals more visible. Averaging removes sporadic events (noise).
CoroCAM 6D Key #1 Tab # 3 Fault number. The # increments the value of fault number (shown in the middle block) The #
CoroCAM 6D Key # 2 Tab # 1 Channel control Use the L/R keys to select the channels to be displayed UV & VIS, just Visible or just UV. The F/B keys sets the transparency of the UV overlay onto the visible channel. Only in effect when the U V & VIS option is selected.
CoroCAM 6D Key # 2 Tab # 2 Labels Use the L/R keys to select the label, press select to activate. Use the F/B keys to scroll through the labels in each category.
