5 The problem The root of the problem is the fixation on white points and black points This approach is based on the perspective of video engineering, where the image is represented by a signal with a fixed range (e.g., 0 to 1) With HDR, this assumption yields 1 complications, complexity, and confusion HPA Technology Retreat Indian Wells, California George Joblove rev. g 5
6 The problem Focusing on white point worked when all displays had the same dynamic-range limitations HDR displays have higher, but differing, peak levels (4000 cd/m 2, 10,000 cd/m 2, etc.) (and also differing black levels) How to properly render an image on displays with differing white points (and black points)?
