The shooting modes are described as follows: Selecting a shooting mode according to the situation When you select a scene mode according to the situation or shooting conditions, the camera automatically selects the optimal settings. PROGRAM AUTO (Factory default setting) Program Auto mode is used for regular photography. The camera automatically makes the settings for natural color balance. Other functions, such as the flash mode and metering, can be adjusted manually. Portrait Portrait mode is suitable for taking a portrait-style picture of a person. The camera automatically sets the optimal shooting conditions. Landscape + Portrait Landscape + Portrait mode is suitable for taking photos which include both your subject and the landscape. The camera automatically sets the optimal shooting conditions. Scenemodes MJU-500 Page 1 of 7 22.December 2004

Landscape Landscape mode is suitable for taking pictures of landscapes and other outdoor scenes. The camera automatically sets the optimal shooting conditions. Sport Suitable for capturing fast-moving action (such as sports) without blurring. Even fast-moving subjects appear to be stationary. 6 SPORT BEHIND GLASS Suitable for taking pictures of items displayed in a shop s window or through glass. Scenemodes MJU-500 Page 2 of 7 22.December 2004

Night scene Night scene mode is suitable for shooting pictures in the evening or at night. The camera sets a slower shutter speed than is used in normal shooting. If you take a picture of a street at night in any other mode, the lack of brightness will result in a dark picture with only dots of light showing. In this mode, the true appearance of the street is captured. The camera automatically sets the optimal shooting conditions. If you use the flash, you can take pictures of both your subject and the night background. Night and Portrait Suitable for shooting both, the main subject and background at night. NIGHT+PORTRAIT shooting makes shutter speed slow. Be sure to stabilize the camera by using a tripod. The flash fires in the red-eye reduction mode. Documents Suitable for shooting documents, etc. Increases contrast between letters and background. Scenemodes MJU-500 Page 3 of 7 22.December 2004

Candle The optimum mode to take a picture of candles preserving the warm light from fire. Record mode can only be set to SQ2 "1280 x 960", "1024 x 768" and "640 x 480." SHOOT & SELECT 1 / SHOOT & SELECT 2 Lets you select an image out of a sequence of still pictures you have taken by depressing the shutter button and store it. While shooting with SHOOT & SELECT 1 scene mode, record mode cannot be set to SHQ. Scenemodes MJU-500 Page 4 of 7 22.December 2004

UNDER WATER WIDE Suitable for shooting a wide area such as a school of fish. Lets you take pictures with a rich, more vivid blue background. To take pictures in the water, you need to use an underwater protective case (sold separately) on the camera. While shooting with UNDER WATER WIDE scene mode, pressing locks the focus easily (AF lock). If the focus is locked, AF lock mark will appear. UNDER WATER MACRO Suitable for shooting close-ups of fish. The natural color of the water will appear. If you use the flash, you can enhance the red tones. To take pictures in the water, you need to use an underwater protective case (sold separately) on the camera. While shooting with UNDER WATER WIDE scene mode, pressing locks the focus easily (AF lock). If the focus is locked, AF lock mark will appear. Scenemodes MJU-500 Page 5 of 7 22.December 2004

Indoor Suitable for taking pictures of the subject indoors together with background scene. Record mode can only be set to SQ2 "1280 x 960", "1024 x 768" and "640 x 480." SELF PORTRAIT+SELF TIMER Suitable for taking pictures while traveling. Lets you take pictures of yourself and the landscape. SUNSET Preserves the deep hues seen in sunsets and sunrises. Scenemodes MJU-500 Page 6 of 7 22.December 2004

Beach & Snow Beach & Snow mode enables you to take pictures of scenery containing white sand or snow. Cuisine Cuisine mode enables you to take pictures of food by increasing the saturation, sharpness and contrast settings to take sharp, vivid pictures of the subject. Self-portrait Self-portrait mode enables you to take a picture of yourself while holding the camera. Point the lens towards yourself, and the focus will be locked on you. The camera automatically sets the optimal shooting conditions. The zoom is fixed in the wide position and cannot be changed. Scenemodes MJU-500 Page 7 of 7 22.December 2004
