FT-S5500 OUTPUT PROFILE FOR RGB OUTPUT MODE Nov 2004 Recently, the digital camera has been spread and the color management system has evolved. And in additionally, the scanned image data is used in many directions, printing, web design, and others. Like this, the chance that the image data in RGB format is used is increased. We had supported so that you can get the RGB data of the good quality image since before in FT-S5500. However, we have strengthened the function of the RGB OUTPUT since Driver software ColorGeniusEX V2.10 more than previous version and we have supplied you much more useful environment. 1) You can check the RGB image in the finish image simulation of RGB output mode by ColorSync. 2) You can embed the ICC profile into the RGB image file in the RGB output mode. (Only for TIFF format) At this time, we add some reference data matched to the representative Color Space for the RGB output mode. And it has been completed much more.
1. Output profile for RGB output mode Original RGB 8/16 bit Transparency positive film and Reflection copy Output profile name 5500Adobe(AI).C5T Description You can get the most suitable image data for the color space of AdobeRGB. You need to use AI function and adjust the image data in some fine adjustment functions when you need. (*2) 16bit 5500Adobe(AI)16bit.C5T Same as the above. 16bit 5500AdobeRGB_.C5T 5500AdobeRGB_16bit.C5T 5500sRGB(AI).C5T You can scan the original in the same color as the original by RGB value that has been given a definition of AdobeRGB. You can use in the default setting without using AI function. At this time, the sharpness function dose not work. (*2, *3, *4) Same as the above You can get the most suitable image data for the color space of srgb. You need to use AI function and adjust the image data in some fine adjustment functions when you need. (*2) 16bit 5500sRGB (AI)16bit.C5T Same as the above 5500sRGBDS_ You can scan the original in the same color as the original by RGB value that has been given a definition of srgb. You can use in the default setting without using AI function. At this time, the sharpness function dose not work. (*2, *3, *4) 5500sRGBDS_16bit 16bit Same as the above (The output profile name lettered in boldface is a data that has been added at this time.) - The above-mentioned output profile is creating data only in RGB modes. Please do not use it in other color modes. Notice: *1: These output profile are data that is attached in ColorGeniusEX V2.10. *2: On the characteristics of the scanner optical system, even the result of the color that you see the original is same, the input result may be difference in a kind of the original, the type of the film, the color material, the type of a paper and others. At that time, you need to adjust the color in a setup data for the original. *3: As the color has been conformed in absolutely measuring color value, the image data of the result that you scan the original becomes dark color than the general scanning image data. However, it is normal. *4: As the optical system with scanner is different to the system that you measure a color, it is difficult for us to make the exact data for all original and whole color. These data has been adjusted based on the ANSI IT8.7/1~2 COLOR TARGET: Made in Fuji Film. However this result is not compensated about the accuracy of the measured value.
2. About sharpness data When you use the output profile, AdobeRGB or srgb for AI in RGB mode, the strength of the sharpness, Gain value has been adjusted. This adjustment has been adjusted in Gain of Setup customize in Preference. And they have been changed as the following table, as the finish image quality with the sharpness for each enlargement is matched. The sharpness gain value is increased at the side of the high enlargement more than the current data. Transparency positive film Resolution Gain offset Reflection copy Resolution Gain offset Notice : When it is graded up from the ColorGeniusEX V2.11 or lower. This latest data is saved as the following file when you grade up it. ColorGeniusEX folder - Goodeies - CustomData - FT-S Custom2.ct2 If you have not performed any sharpness customize for any color mode, we would like you to overwrite the above file to the following file. ColorGeniusEX Folder - ColorGeniusEX V2.1- InputDevice - FT-S CustomData - Custom2.ct2 If you have performed some sharpness customize for some color modes, we would like you to fill the data in the above table into Gain of Setup customize in Preference. 3. Notice 1) Display on the preview In the ColorSync setting, you need to set correctly ICC profile for monitor and Color Space you want. And in additionally, you need to pay attention to Monitor calibration, light and the other environment around the machine too. 2) Combination with ICC profile You need to combine the image data and ICC profile in the correct combination. If the image data when you scan is combined with ICC profile you don t want, you can not get the good result. 3) Getting ICC profile for AdobeRGB As ICC profile for AdobeRGB is not attached in this Driver, you need to get it from the following URL: After you would get it, put it into the following folder in Macintosh system: Library/ColorSync/Profiles. 4. Explanation 1) RGB data and Color Management
When you get CMYK data with scanner, the image data is made in the color adjustment by the printing condition that has been decided before. At this time, you can decide the finish image quality on the scanner, but it is difficult for you to replace the printing condition and use it for the other way without printing after scanning. However, the RGB image data is an image data just after red into in RGB that is very close to a image not to be processed yet. Therefore, This image data has a characteristic that it is easy for you to be able to apply this image data for various printing conditions and uses. But you need the Color Management system to use the RGB image data profitably. In CMYK data, you can decide in the printing condition and setting of DOT%. The one that we can offer you the same duty is ICC profile in the Color Management system. ICC profile is a file like a ruler to define the actual color for the data values. The format has been decided by ICC: International Color Consortium. A Color Space is defined by ICC profile. In ICC profile, there are profiles that show the characteristic of the peculiar device for the display, printer and others. But in the other profile, there is a profile defined in Color Space: AdobeRGB, srgb and others for the conversion of data that is not depended to the peculiar device too. When you want to use the image data expect deciding uses of the image data, you mainly need to use the profile defined in Color Space. And in additionally, you need to choose the Color Gamut that is enough to cover the Color Space. And also, it is very useful for you to use the standard Color Space when you use it in the group work for plenty of process. When you scan the original in RGB data, there are following measures. (a) You make the image data in fitting the color with original itself on the target Color Space. As the original condition is made as the image data correctly, it is matched to uses for the image archives and others. However, the quality is not always useful. When you use it, you need suitable conversion matched to uses. And the file of the following reference data name: 5500AdobeRGB_.C5T, 5500AdobeRGB_16bit.C5T, 5500sRGBDS_.C5T, 5500sRGBDS_16bit.C5T is matched to the uses. (b) You make the image data in adjusting the image so that the color becomes suitable on the target Color Space. The target Color Space is matched to the printing condition based on CMYK. If the image data is defined on a Color Space, the image quality is stable and it becomes the data that it is easy for you to use. And the file of the following reference data name: 5500Adobe(AI).C5T, 5500Adobe(AI)16bit.C5T, 5500sRGB(AI).C5T, 5500sRGB(AI)16bit.C5T,is matched to the uses. In the other, you make the ICC profile in the characteristic of when you scan the original in the regular condition, and there is a way of uses that you use the profile too. With FT-S5500, when you use the standard attachment profile without AdobeRGB and srgb, the scanner profile that is 5500stdRGB is used for RGB output.
2) ICC profile and Color Gamut In the digital data, the space of the data that the color on the original can reappear has been decided. In instance, if it is 8 bits image data, it is reappeared in the value that is from 0 to 255. The relation with the value and real color is decided with ICC profile, but there is not the value that is less than 0 or more than 255. Therefore, the all color we can see is not always reappeared. And in additionally, with Display or Color printer, the apace we can reappear has been decided physically, and the profile is set in the space. The space that we can reappear with such color space is called Color Gamut. In general, as we use the wider color gamut, we can keep the color that is higher saturation, Munsell chroma. However, to mean shows you that you can keep it only as an information. Therefore, it is not related to the image quality that is a good or a poor image data. And in additionally, if the device or printing that you do the output dose not cover it in the same color gamut, the finish job is poor image quality. 3) AdobeRGB and srgb FT-S5500 is applied in AdobeRGB or srgb as the representative color space. (1) srgb srgb is a Color Space that is decided based on the general CRT display. This srgb is used widely for the image inspection in the Internet, the digital cameras for the consumer, scanners, printers and others. (2) AdobeRGB The color gamut between green and cyan is slightly wider than one of srgb, and it just covers the color gamut for the offset printing. Therefore the color space fits for an aim of the printing. Recently, the digital cameras or displays for AdobeRGB have been going to spread.
