BASICS OF VIDEO SHOOTING Extreme Long Shot (ELS / EWS) Long Shot (LS / FS) Medium Long Shot (MLS) Medium Shot (MS) Medium Close-up (MCU) Close-up (CU) Extreme (ECU)

EXTREME LONG SHOT (ELS / EWS) Also known as extreme wide shot (EWS) Covers a wide area Shows the whole figure of your subject as well as his surroundings Provides context for your scene

LONG SHOT (LS / FS) Also known as full shot (FS) Frames the whole figure of your subject, from the head to the toes. Places the subject in relation to the environment and the people around it. The point of the focus is the subject but the environment is also visible. Shows action rather than emotion.

MEDIUM LONG SHOT (MLS) Also known as a three-quarters shot. Frames the whole subject from the knees up. An intermediate shot between the long shot and the medium shot. Shows the subject in relation to the surroundings. May be used when you have 2 or 3 persons in the frame.

MEDIUM SHOT (MS) Also known as the waist shot. Frames the subject from the waist up. Commonly used in interviews. Directs the viewer to the subject

MEDIUM CLOSE-UP (MCU) Frames a subject's head and cuts off around mid-chest. The focus is on the subject. Reveals only a little of the surroundings. Shows the facial expressions of the subject. Commonly used for interviews in documentaries and news programs.

CLOSE-UP Frames a subject's face and cuts off mid-neck, showing the face and entire head. The subject fills almost the entire frame. Captures facial expressions and emotions.

EXTREME CLOSE-UP Frames just the person's facial features. Frames only a portion of the subject. Shows the person's emotions.

SHOT COMPOSITION Well-framed shots are essential to basic filming. You should arrange your subject on the screen so that your shot is well balanced and pleasing to the eye. Most shots of a person are medium close-up shots, and show just the head and shoulders. Basically, you should consider the subject's head room, looking room and walking room.

HEAD ROOM Head room is the space between the top of a subject's head and the top of the screen frame.

LOOKING ROOM Looking room is the amount of space between the subject and the edge of the screen they are facing. You should have more room in front of the subject than behind.

WALKING ROOM / LEAD SPACE Walking room is similar to looking room, but it applies to moving objects. Moving objects need walking room or lead space to move into.

WALKING ROOM / LEAD SPACE You should give more space in front of the subject in the direction the subject is moving. As the subject moves, you should pan the camera to maintain a constant amount of walking room.

BACKGROUND When you frame a subject, it is important to look in the viewfinder, and pay close attention to the background. Is there anything behind your subject? Do objects appear to stick out of your subject's head? Is the background too cluttered?

BACKGROUND A cluttered background will distract the viewer from the subject instead of focusing on the subject and what he is saying, the viewer will be looking at what is behind the subject.

BACKGROUND A little adjustment to the subject's position can make a better composition. If necessary, remove or rearrange items in the background. Keep the background simple and uncluttered.

VIDEO EDITING Video editing is the process of editing segments of motion video production footage, special effects and sound recordings in the post-production process. Motion picture film editing is a predecessor to video editing and, in several ways, video editing simulates motion picture film editing

TYPES OF EDITING FOR MOOC Non-linear editing system (NLE), This is edited on computers with special software. These are non destructive to the video being edited and use programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After effect Adobe Premiere Adobe After effect

Sound Recording and Editing Narration High-quality narration can be an invaluable asset to your video projects. There are three essential ingredients for creating highquality narration 1. a well-written script 2. smooth delivery and a crisp 3. clear recording
