3 WHAT IS STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY? Overview STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY Stock photography is a supply of photographs, which are often licensed for specific uses. Stock photography is used to fulfill the needs of creative assignments in lieu of of hiring a photographer, often at a lower cost. Stock images can be found in searchable online databases. COMMON TERMS EDITORIAL USE: means that the image can only be used for Non-commercial purposes. Editorial rights are licensed on a Use-by-use basis. This usage is not recommended for Hyatt hotels. CREATIVE USE: This license grants you the permission to use the image without restriction to size, circulation, media and the like. You can use the image for as long as you want. Recommended usage for Hyatt hotels. ROYALTY-FREE (RF): This refers to the right to use copyrighted material or intellectual property without the need to pay royalties or license fees for each use. Recommended usage for Hyatt hotels. RIGHTS MANAGED: refers to a copyright license which, if purchased by a user, allows the one-time use of the photo as specified by the license. If the user wants to use the photo for other uses, an additional license needs to be purchased. This usage is not recommended for Hyatt hotels. DPI (DOTS PER INCH): DPI is used to describe the resolution number of dots per inch in a digital print and the printing resolution of a hard copy print dot gain. 72 DPI is the proper resolution for web images as opposed to 300 DPI for images intended for print usage. CREDITS: While many stock photo sites are subscription-based, (meaning you can download an unlimited or specified amount of photos in a certain time period), some have the option to use credits to purchase images instead. It will vary depending on the type of photo. ENHANCED LICENSE: Allows unlimited print runs of books, magazines, advertising posters, and packaging. Plus, it allows you to use images on products like t-shirts, calendars, etc. STANDARD LICENSE: allows the use of stock images for up to a total of 500,000 copies of books, magazines, advertising posters, and packaging. the studio / stock photography usage & purchasing 3

5 DETERMINE YOUR INTENDED USAGE - PRINT Sizing and Composition WHERE DO I PLAN TO USE THIS IMAGE? PRINT SIZING The intended placement of your image will determine what type of image composition you should be searching for. For example, if you plan to use the image in a printed vertical ad, then you should be looking for an image with a vertical composition. If you plan to use the image on a hyatt.com hotel site, a horizontal image composition is preferred. WHAT SIZE DO I NEED? The size needed all depends on how you plan to use the photo. Most stock photography sites provide suggested print sizes on each image details page, but here is a quick summary of the different sizes: SMALL basic web use like blogs, articles, or brochure sites. MEDIUM bigger web use like backgrounds or small prints about the size of a postcard. LARGE enough for almost any need you might have, such as full page prints and any web need. X-LARGE big enough for anything you ll need, from double page spreads to large format posters. Brand Ad: 8.5 x 11 in. Fact Sheet: 14 x 10 in. Card: 4 x 6 in. Invitation: 5 x 5 in. 8 CHECK HBM FOR AVAILABLE IMAGES Brand and Global Photography TIPS FOR FINDING IMAGES ON HBM Search for available images in Hyatt Brand Manager prior to purchasing any stock images. 1. To find available images in HBM, Check for options under Brand and Global Images. 2. To find Global Images select the below options in the Search Filters located on the left hand side of the Images section in HBM: Brand >> Global Category >> General Subcategory >> Select the Category 3. To find Brand Images* select the below options in the Search Filters located on the left hand side of the Images section in HBM: Brand >> Select your Hotel s Brand Category >> Select the Category *Please do not use images meant for other Hyatt brands. If your hotel is a Hyatt Place hotel, please only use images reserved for Hyatt Place hotels. ADDITIONAL TIPS FOR FINDING IMAGES Reach out to your city, state or country s Convention and Visitor s Bureau for destination images. Many CVB offices will provide images for your hotel to use free of charge. 9 SEARCH FOR STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY Top Stock Photography Sites TIPS FOR SEARCHING FOR STOCK IMAGES: 1. USE MULTIPLE SEARCH WORDS Depending on the topic, three to five keywords return the optimum number of results that still offer some choice but limit the results to a manageable amount. 2. BE SPECIFIC IN YOUR SEARCH Using specific search words will help narrow down your search results significantly. For example, an initial image search for London on Shutterstock s site returns more than 100,000 image results. However by adding a few more specific words to the search, such as London Thames Westminster your results will be filtered down to a more manageable 4,000 images. One of the best search result features is the option to search image orientation, such as horizontal/landscape versus vertical/portrait orientation. If you already know the future purpose of your image, this will help cut out many unnecessary search results. It is recommended that you limit your search results to Royalty Free images only. 10 SUBMIT IMAGES FOR REVIEW AND UPLOAD Purchasing & Submission STEP 1: SEND YOUR IMAGE CHOICES TO THE STUDIO FOR REVIEW Prior to purchasing any stock images, please reach out to The Studio to receive approval to purchase your stock image(s). To contact the studio, send an to the Creative Services inbox at: Please include the following information in your A link to the image(s) you wish to purchase Your intended usage for the image(s) The Studio will review your request and respond back with any questions or an approval to purchase the image(s). Once you have gained approval you can move forward with your image purchase. STEP 2: SUBMIT YOUR IMAGES THROUGH THE UPLOAD TOOL All Stock images intended for print or web usage will need to be uploaded to HBM/CQ5. If the images are intended for print usage, please upload your images by using the Upload Tool.
