ii. Overview Using these guidelines Johnson & Johnson s worldwide sponsorship of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will provide us with important marketing rights in the coming years. Maintaining the visual standards of the Games and of the Johnson & Johnson brands is an essential part of all communications. The following guidelines are provided to give you a basic understanding of how to most effectively and correctly use Olympic marks. Prior to contemplating any communications in association with the Olympic Games, please familiarize yourself with Johnson & Johnson s rights to use the marks and designations associated with the Olympic sponsorship. You are required to submit the final design of your application to the Olympic Parties for evaluation and approval prior to use. Please review the Getting Approvals section of the Johnson & Johnson Olympic Sponsorship site at
BU3.01 Composite marks Composite components The Beijing 2008/Johnson & Johnson Bilingual composite mark is comprised of eight elements: composite 1. Beijing 2008 Emblem 2. Beijing 2008 logotype 3. Olympic symbol 4. Official designation (Chinese) 5. Official designation (English) Set in Myriad Pro Regular 6. Johnson & Johnson corporate signature (English) 7. Johnson & Johnson corporate signature (Chinese) 8. Unity mark NOTE: The Olympic rings and designation must always be clearly legible.
BU3.02 Composite marks Beijing 2008/Johnson & Johnson Full-color (English & Chinese) composite The full-color version of the Beijing 2008/ Johnson & Johnson composite should be used whenever possible. Full-color Horizontal (Primary use) There are two versions of the full-color composite mark. The horizontal composite is preferred and should be used whenever possible. The vertical composite should be used only when space is constrained or the horizontal composite can t be used. Pantone, CMYK and RGB color breakdowns of the Beijing 2008/Johnson & Johnson full-color composite mark are provided. See the Composite matrix on page BU3.09 for specifications and file types. After determining the proper composite and obtaining artwork, please refer back to this document for proper usage. Full-color Vertical (Secondary use)
BU3.03 Composite marks One-color composite The one-color version of the Beijing 2008/ Johnson & Johnson composite should be used when production constraints prevent the use of the full-color composite. One-color Horizontal (Primary use) There are four versions of the one-color composite mark. The horizontal composite is preferred and should be used whenever possible. The vertical composite should be used only when space is constrained and the horizontal composite can t be used. Both the horizontal and vertical marks are available in black and white. The CMYK color breakdown of the one-color black composite mark is provided. See the Composite matrix on page BU3.09 for specifications and file types. After determining the proper composite and obtaining artwork, please refer back to this document for proper usage. NOTE: The one-color version of the Beijing 2008/ Johnson & Johnson may not be reproduced in any single color other than the approved black or white versions. One-color Vertical (Secondary use)
BU3.04 Composite mark usage Clear space In order to preserve the integrity of the composite mark, it is important that no other logos, words or other graphic elements infringe on its space. A clear space is defined to separate the composite from its surroundings. The clear space measure is equivalent to 1/4 the width of the Beijing 2008 Emblem. The distance between the composite and the edge of any paper, sign or other application, also needs to be greater than the clear space. The instructions on this page apply to all versions of the composite, including horizontal, vertical and color variations.
BU3.05 Composite mark usage Minimum size Composites using Johnson & Johnson In order to maintain legibility, a minimum size for the use of composites has been established. This minimum size is based on the Johnson & Johnson signature (English & Chinese). Depending on the method of reproduction, the minimum size may need to be increased to ensure legibility. On very small items, such as pens and pins, where the composite logo is applied by silkscreen or embossing, it may be difficult to achieve clear and legible reproduction. In these instances only, omit the designation. The instructions on this page apply to all versions of the composite, including horizontal, vertical and color variations. The minimum size for the composite, when offset printing measures.7874 inches (20 mm) in height for horizontal composite and.7874 inches (20 mm) in width for verticle composite. Both measurements include the necessary clear space that is noted on page BU3.04 in these guidelines. The minimum size for the composite, on-screen, measures 68 pixels in height for horizontal composite and 83 pixels (20 mm) in width for verticle composite. Both measurements include the necessary clear space that is noted on page BU3.04 in these guidelines.
BU3.06 Composite mark usage Background control Controlling the background where the composites exist is an important part of their legibility. Never place the composite mark over any color, background or photograph that inhibits legibility in any way. The instructions on this page apply to all versions of the composite, including horizontal, vertical and color variations. Full-color composites may only be used on a white background One-color black composites may only be used on white or light-colored backgrounds or photography One-color white composites may only be used on black or dark-colored backgrounds or photography
BU3.07 Composite mark usage Unacceptable uses The correct application of the composites represented in these guidelines is essential to our communications. The examples on this page represent just a few of the unacceptable uses of those composites. The instructions on this page apply to all versions of the composite, including horizontal, vertical and color variations. NOTE: Never attempt to redraw any of the elements within the composite mark Never use any of the elements of the composites separately Never alter the typefaces used in the composites Never use any color variations not represented in these guidelines Never change the size relationships between any of the composite elements Never place the composite mark over any color, background or photograph that inhibits legibility in any way Never add graphic elements or words to the composites Never rearrange the elements of the composites Never distort the shape or proportion of the composites Never use an unapproved designation
BU3.08 Composite marks Beijing 2008/Johnson & Johnson Key to file naming The artwork files for all of the composite marks detailed in these guidelines use a specific naming convention shown on this page. This convention allows you to quickly identify and organize all of the necessary artwork files.
