5 What is Silicate Paint? Using inorganic binding agent, commonly known as water glass as main binder in the coating system, binding various mineral ingredients added into formulation creating a permanent, durable and strong bonding that adhere extremely well on cementious substrate. This type of coating can be categorized as silicate paint. Water glass in the coating will undergo a chemical reaction called silification and calcification. These processes are slow but steady, they result in the formation of strong and stable C-S-H bonding. Also involved in this reaction is carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the atmosphere.

Guide to Proper Application of KHRAM Silicate Paint KHRAM Silicate Paint can

Paint with 5-20% KHRAM Fixativ and apply generously on intended substrate.

Apply 2 nd coat of diluted KHRAM Silicate Paint if surface is too absorbing.

Apply final coat of KHRAM Silicate Paint with maximum dilution rate of 8% with

10 Guide to Proper Application of KHRAM Silicate Paint KHRAM Silicate Paint can be directly applied on cementious substrate, bricks, concrete, stone and clay surface. The proper application flow can be given as follow: Thin down KHRAM Silicate Paint with 5-20% KHRAM Fixativ and apply generously on intended substrate.* Let dry for minimum of 6hrs. Apply 2 nd coat of diluted KHRAM Silicate Paint if surface is too absorbing. Let air dry minimum of 12hrs without rain and/or water splash. Apply final coat of KHRAM Silicate Paint with maximum dilution rate of 8% with KHRAM Fixativ. Let dry for minimum of 6hrs. *Pre-treat old surface with suitable and recommended method prior to application of KHRAM Silicate Paint. **Refer to KHRAM Silicate Paint application hand book for do and don t.

Cement surface painted with conventional emulsion paint. Cement surface with efflorescence, coated and/or non-coated. Surface observed with fungus, algae and/or mildew growth.

12 Type of Surfaces Surface Preparation - 1 Cracked and/or chalky surface as a result of poor and degraded coating applied. Clean the surface with high pressure water jet, complete remove algae, mildew and/or fungus, also remove chalky layer. Let surface dry and inspect once dry. If surface is still chalky, apply a layer of KHRAM Fixativ. Let dry for minimum 6hrs. For cracked surface, apply KHRAM Filler to fill in the cracks. Let dry for minimum 6hrs. Apply as per normal according to KHRAM Silicate Paint application instructions.

For matt surface, light sanding on surface is sufficient.

13 Type of Surfaces Surface Preparation - 2 Cement surface painted with conventional emulsion paint. Depending type of emulsion paint applied, different surface pretreatment method applies. For matt surface, light sanding on surface is sufficient. As for glossy surface, deeper sanding or possibly sand-blasting and/or paint stripping off required. On pre-treated surface, apply a layer of KHRAM Fixativ. Let dry for minimum 6hrs. Apply as per normal according to KHRAM Silicate Paint application instructions.

Type of Surfaces Surface Preparation - 3 Cement surface with efflorescence, coated and/or non-coated. Apply KHRAM Efflorescence Remover by brush or by spray. Apply generously.

Leave surface soaked for 1-2hrs. Rinse surface with plenty of water. If efflorescence not fully removed, again, apply KHRAM Efflorescence Remover until it is totally removed. Apply adequate amount of KHRAM Neutralizer to neutralize the surface. Leave on surface for 30mins, rinse off with plenty of water. Let surface dry before application of KHRAM Silicate Paint. Follow application instruction given.

For stubborn and difficult to remove surface, apply KHRAM Neutralizer generously on the surface. Leave it soak for 30mins.

15 Type of Surfaces Surface Preparation - 4 Surface observed with fungus, algae and/or mildew growth. Clean surface with high pressure water jet until no algae, mildew and/or fungus observed on the surface. For stubborn and difficult to remove surface, apply KHRAM Neutralizer generously on the surface. Leave it soak for 30mins. Brush on surface is necessary. Rinse off surface using high pressure water jet and ensure surface is free from fungus, mildew and/or algae prior to paint application. Ensure surface is dry prior to application of KHRAM Silicate Paint. Follow application instructions given.

New cement surface and concrete should be aged >14 days prior to application with KHRAM Silicate Paint. Do not paint on hydrophobic surface, i.e. Silicone pre-treated surface or oil-based paint surface.

Apply adequate amount of water on dry cement/concrete surface prior to application to promote absorption in to substrate. Pre-treat old surface in accordance to our recommendations. New cement surface and concrete should be aged >14 days prior to application with KHRAM Silicate Paint. Do not paint on hydrophobic surface, i.e. Silicone pre-treated surface or oil-based paint surface. Apply generously on intended surface, ensure surface properly wet with paint. Patch and fill cracks prior to the application of KHRAM Silicate Paint. Apply KHRAM Silicate Paint by roller, brush or airless spray. Always apply KHRAM Silicate Paint with quality tools and equipment for optimum performance. Apply minimum 2 coats of KHRAM Silicate Paint for full benefits KHRAM silicate paint is designed to be air drying at ambient temperature, allow sufficient drying time in between coats. Do not wet painted surface (rain or water splash) within the recommended drying time as per application handbook. Proper settling/curing of KHRAM Silicate Paint will take about 3-7 days

18 Consumption and Coverage KHRAM Silicate Paint is an water-based inorganic coating and needed to be applied generously and thick enough to provide optimum service and performance.
