Our guides are trained to encourage discussion and interaction throughout the tour. Students will learn about life during these times, looking at religion, diet, clothing and the significant developments in technology over the three periods. It is suitable for a wide range of classes and age groups, including adult groups. Participants will learn about the clothing of the past and the societies that wore it. Students will have the opportunity to dress up as Elizabethan nobility or medieval serfs. 4 Leaving Certificate Workshops Art in Ireland Prices All: 2 pp Duration 1 hr 30 mins Choose From: 20th Century Irish Art or Bronze Age Art This workshop focuses on the Art Appreciation section of the Leaving Cert paper. Students will learn about subject matter, style, colour and light, composition, techniques, context and interpretation. Describe and analyse Irish art with more confidence and fluency Discuss important themes in the history of Ireland in greater depth Learn key skills for integrating works of art European Art: The Three Masters Picasso, Gauguin, Renoir This workshop focuses on the Art Appreciation section of the Leaving Cert paper. This workshop gives students the opportunity to engage with, and respond to, works of art by three major European artists, all of them key figures in the history of Western painting. The emphasis will be on the development of each artist s distinctive style and their influence on European art. The workshop will develop the student s familiarity with, and use of, key concepts and terminology in the understanding and appreciation of art. Demonstrate improved confidence in discussing, describing and analysing European works of art in various media and in various styles Analyse the subject matter and symbolism of works of art with greater depth and fluency Exhibition Layout and Design Workshop This workshop assists students preparing for Section 3 of History and Appreciation of Art Paper (General Appreciation), focusing on the Exhibition Layout and Design question. Using the museum s permanent and temporary exhibitions, the workshop helps students to explore the philosophy behind the layout of a museum exhibition. 5 TEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS The Hunt Museum offers a wide variety of temporary exhibitions throughout the year. Below is a description of the next two exhibitions and the specially designed workshops. To stay up to date with what is on during your visit please check our website: Gerry Andrews: Faces and Places 24th Feb 26th March Dante s Inferno, Gerry Andrews Junior Cycle The Faces and Places exhibition encompasses a wide variety of individuals from diverse global cultures. Students will be given a tour of the Gerry Andrews photography exhibition with a view to exploring and celebrating this cultural diversity. After the tour with facilitation from museum volunteers, group discussions will take place amongst students on the importance of diversity, tolerance and multi-culturalism within our own communities. Senior Cycle Students will be given a tour of the Faces and Places exhibition, examining the range of subject matter and display strategies employed to encourage its interpretation. They will identify prominent themes within the exhibition and will discuss how different cultures are represented. They will also compare and contrast the role played by colour, light, style and composition in selected works. Students will also analyse the exhibition space, its layout and design and make suggestions as to how it could be improved. After the tour, students will have the opportunity to put this critical analysis to use through creating their own captions for photographs in the exhibition and justifying their reasoning. To stay up to date with what is on during your visit please check our website: Jack B. Yeats and Paul Henry: Contrasting Visions of Ireland An Atlantic Drive, Jack B. Yeats June September During an enquiry based tour of the Jack B. Yeats and Paul Henry exhibition, students will interpret, compare and contrast prominent themes and subject matter present in the artworks. This will include the shared preoccupation of the artists with the west of Ireland and how these landscapes were significant in forging a sense of identity for an independent Ireland. Students will also compare and contrast the artists use of light, colour, composition, texture and style and will learn how trends including French Impressionism of the 19th Century influenced this work. After the exhibition tour, students will be allocated time to record their exhibition visit and to document the artworks of their choice.
