This unit may not be used by people (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacities, with a lack of experience and without the appropriate knowledge, unless they are supervised by someone who is responsible for their safety or have been instructed by such a person with regard to how the unit is to be operated. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the device. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference 1). WORK AREA SAFETY Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Rags, cloths, cord, string and similar items should never be left around the work area Do not operate power tools in explosive environments, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks, which may ignite the dust or fumes. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause the operator to lose control. 2). ELECTRICAL SAFETY Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with grounded power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is increased risk of electric shock if your body is grounded. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Replace damaged cords immediately. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitanbe for outdoor use.use of a cord suitable for outdoor reduces the risk of electric shock. 2
To reduce the risk of electric shock, the manufacturer recommends the use of a residual current of 30mA or less at all times. 3). PERSONAL SAFETY Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection will reduce personal injures. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards. 4). POWER TOOL USE AND CARE Do not force the power tools. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these 3 instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. Maintain power tools with care. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. 5). Servicing Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tools is maintained. Additional Safety Instructions for Spray Guns Spray materials emerge from nozzle tips under high pressure. Attention! Danger of injection - Never point the spray stream towards human beings or animals. The spray gun is to be used only for paints and solvents with a 21 C flashpoint or higher (See information on the material tin. Hazard class A II and A III permitted). The spray gun is not to be used in work places covered by Ex-protection regulations. To avoid the hazard of explosion when spraying, provide for effective natural or artificial ventilation. No sources of ignition are to be in the immediate area when spraying, e.g. open flame, cigarettes, sparks, glowing wires and hot surfaces. Before carrying out any work on the spray gun, unplug the lead from the power socket. Do not use spray guns to spray flammable liquids. The spray guns are not to be cleaned with flammable solvents which have a flashpoint under 21 C. Take precautionary measures against potential hazards from the spray liquid and follow any instructions given on containers or laid down by the manufacturer of the liquid. Do not spray any liquid of unknown hazard potential. Wear a breathing mask and ear protection.
Know your product 1. On/Off switch 2. Paint volume control dial 3. Air vent 4. Ceramic nozzle 5. Spring Valve assembly 6. Paint filter Paint Pot 8. Paint Pot lid (additional pot only) 9. Flexible nozzle 10. Viscosity Cup 11. Nozzle Cleaner/Cleaning Needle 12. Handle 13. Valve/Pump Assembly Assembly The PLD5020A Paint Sprayer does not require any pre-assembly before use. What substances can this Paint Sprayer be used with? The following substances are suitable for use with this Paint Sprayer: Oil and water based paints Paints and varnishes containing solvents Acrylic enamel paints Water-soluble varnishes Glazes & polishes Wood preservatives, disinfectants, plant protectives & saturants. DO NOT use the following: Dispersion and latex paints Materials containing strong abrasives, Glazes with coarse particles, Strippers and caustic solutions, Silicate paints. Note: The use of these spray materials can lead to increased wear or corrosion damage in the pump area of the sprayer, which is not covered by warranty. Preparation of Spray Material Most paints will require dilution before using with your Paint Sprayer. Refer to the guidelines in the viscosity table below for the recommended required dilution. The correct dilution can be achieved by using the viscosity test cup supplied with your paint sprayer. (Note: Viscosity = consistency of the paint)
Measuring the Viscosity To measure the viscosity of the spray material follow these instructions (refer Fig 1): 1. Dip the viscosity test cup completely into the spray material to be used. 2. Hold the test cup up and measure the time (in seconds) until the liquid empties (stop Fig. 1 running) out of the viscosity cup. 3. Compare the measured runout time with the Viscosity Table to establish the required viscosity Preparing for Operation Ensure you check and follow the below recommended steps before using your Paint Sprayer 1. Before connecting your paint sprayer to the mains supply, ensure that the supply voltage is identical with the value given on the rating label (on the side of the spray gun). Note: To reduce the risk of electric shock, the manufacturer recommends the use of a residual current of 30mA or less at all times. 2. Dilute the spray material according to the viscosity table. 3. Place the paint pot on a sheet of paper and fill it with the prepared spray material. NOTE: It is strongly recommended to fill the paint pot through a fine strainer/gauze to filter the paint. WARNING: Do not operate the spray gun without spray material Fig. 2 in the paint pot. 4. Position the spray gun on the paint pot and turn the container to the right until the container fits tightly (refer Fig 2) NOTE: Ensure you undertake a test spray with the unit before beginning your spraying task on your work piece. Operation Spray Technique Before using your paint sprayer, read the following tips for spraying techniques: Cover areas that are not to be sprayed. When working keep in mind that wind, for example, may transport paint mist over 5 Fig. 3 Fig. 4 great distances and cause damage. Test the spray gun on cardboard or a similar surface to find the correct setting before you start spraying your work piece. When spraying, hold the spray gun in a horizontal position. Use the flexible nozzle extension for spraying upwards (e.g. a ceiling) or downwards (e.g. an unhinged door laid on the floor). The spray movement should come from the arm, not just from the wrist. This ensures that a uniform distance is maintained between the spray gun and the spray surface during the spray operation (refer Fig 3). To achieve optimal spray results, spray back and forth over the surface (refer Fig 4). Starting the Paint Sprayer 1. To start the paint sprayer, press the On/Off trigger switch. 2. To stop the Paint Sprayer, release the On/Off Trigger switch Before using the paint Sprayer on your work piece make sure you undertake a test spray on a scrap piece of material. Using the Paint Volume Control Dial The paint Volume Control dial is used to increase or decrease the flow of paint being sprayed from the Paint Sprayer. For Larger surface spraying, the maximum flow is recommended. For smaller surface spraying, the minimum flow is recommended. Note: Before using the paint Sprayer on your work piece make sure you undertake a test spray Fig. 5 on a scrap piece of material. 1. To increase the paint flow, turn the Paint Volume Control dial to the left. (refer Fig 5).
2. To decrease the paint flow, turn the Paint Volume Control dial to the right. (refer Fig 5). Using the Flexible Nozzle NOTE: Ensure the product is NOT connected to the mains power before changing the nozzle on the sprayer. The flexible nozzle is best used for painting ceilings, resting objects or hard to reach places. 1. Remove the ceramic nozzle fitted onto the paint sprayer by turning it anti-clockwise. (Fig. 6) NOTE: Do not remove the spring valve assembly 2. Using the external threaded end of the flexible nozzle, place the flexible nozzle over the spray tip assembly and then thread in the flexible hose by turning clockwise. (refer Fig. 7) 3. When the flexible nozzle is securely fitted to the sprayer, you can adjust the direction of the nozzle to point to the position required for use. Fig. 6 Fig. 7 Changing a nozzle An additional Ceramic nozzle (4) has been supplied with this product. Note: Ensure the product is NOT connected to the mains power before changing the nozzle on the sprayer. 1. Remove the nozzle on the paint sprayer by turning it in an anticlockwise direction until it can be removed. Note: Be careful not to remove the Spring Valve assembly located behind the ceramic nozzle. (refer Fig 8) To replace the Spring Valve assembly, refer to the next section. 2. Attach the new nozzle by placing it over the spring valve assembly and turning it in a clockwise direction until it is secure. Replacing the Spring Valve assembly An additional Spring Valve assembly (5) has been supplied with this product. Note: Ensure the product is NOT connected to the mains power before changing the spring valve assembly on the sprayer. 1. Remove the nozzle on the paint sprayer by turning it in an anticlockwise direction until it can be removed. 2. Remove the Spring Valve assembly (refer Fig 8). 3. Insert the new Spring valve assembly with the white tip end going in first. 4. Replace the ceramic nozzle over the spring valve assembly and secure the ceramic nozzle by turning it in a clockwise direction. Fig. 8 Cleaning and Maintenance IMPORTANT: The spray gun can only operate satisfactorily if it is cleaned and preserved after each use. If the spray gun is not cleaned properly after each use, the gun will not perform correctly the next time of use. Failures due to improper cleaning and maintenance are not covered under warranty. WARNING: Never immerse the spray gun in liquid when cleaning. 1. Empty out the remaining paint from the container. Wash out the paint pot to clear any paint residue. Discard cleaning fluid. 2. Put proper thinner in the container and trigger the sprayer for approx. 5 seconds. 3. Disconnect the sprayer from the Fig. 9 mains power. 4. Use the small nozzle from the flexible nozzle extension assembly as a nozzle spanner. From the flexible nozzle, unscrew the nozzle end cap. (fig 9a) NOTE: Do not lose the small plastic valve in the flexible tube. Fit the nozzle end cap onto the valve assembly on the spray gun by approx. 6 turns. (fig 9b) 6
5. Grasping the nozzle, firmly pull the valve/pump assembly out of the spray gun. 6. Thoroughly clean all soiled parts, especially clean the intake and runback holes with the provided nozzle cleaner pin. 7. Reassemble the parts in reverse order. Attention! Place the intake holes on the pump downwards when reassembling the valve/pump assembly (13). (Fig 9c) 8. Put a few drops of oil (e.g. sewing machine oil) in the intake and runback holes (refer Fig 11). Briefly switch on the spray gun. Fig. 10 Fig. 9a Fig. 9b Fig. 9c Trouble shooting Fig. 11 7
