1 Teachers pack Key Stage 3, and 5 Project dates 8 Oct 9 December Picasso on Paper Teachers information This project is aimed at years 7-3 and designed to link directly to the art and design curriculum. Outline of project In the morning students visit the exhibition Picasso on Paper with a member of the Learning Team and discover how Picasso used different methods of printmaking to explore the themes he loved: bull-fighting, the circus, portraiture and works inspired by the Old Masters. Students will also investigate the experimental nature of Picasso s work and see how he explores one idea in many ways. In the afternoon students will take inspiration from the artworks they have seen to create their own prints. They will use foam printing to create a series of images. They will be encouraged to experiment with colour and mark making to alter the image between each print. Project timing 0am.5pm T Registered Charity No 0378
2 Important information for your visit This programme will be led by a member of the Learning Team Free coach parking is provided in the main car park. Coaches cannot drop off at the gallery owing to weight restrictions on the Upper Bridge. When arriving please enter through the gate behind the ticket lodge in the main car park The walk from the car park will take approximately 0 minutes. A member of the Learning Team will meet you at the gallery. Your class should be divided into a maximum of 5 groups prior to arrival, with 5-6 students in each group. Each group will need one adult for all-day supervision Behaviour management is the responsibility of school staff at all times Each student will need to bring an art apron; all other materials will be provided by the Learning Team The morning s activities will include a visit to the gallery We recommended staff bring a camera to record activities in the Learning Centre, park and permanent collections. Photography is not permitted in the exhibition galleries. Prior to your visit please make us aware of any students with additional requirements or special needs so we can make all necessary arrangements Goodie bags are available to pre order from the shop. 3 Timetable 0am 0.5am 0.5am.30am.30am noon Introduction in the Learning Centre Gallery Students visit the exhibition Picasso on Paper and explore original prints created by Pablo Picasso. They take part in group discussions and record their observations through drawing. Large groups may also visit the Marx-Lambert collection to explore the print of Enid Marx and compare her work with Picassos. Learning Centre Students will take inspiration from the exhibition to develop a design for their print noon pm Lunch In the park or Learning Centre if raining. Picnic blankets will be provided. pm.05pm.05pm.5pm Learning Centre Students will create a series of prints using the design they made in the morning Plenary Students and teachers share their work and review the day Extension activities Picasso worked in many different artforms. Using the design the will create on their visit students could experiment with other artforms. For example they could create the same image using collage, painting or clay. Pablo Picasso invented an art movement called Cubism, with another artist, Georges Braque. Students could research cubist artworks and use them as inspiration to make their own. They could make a collage by taking multiple photographs of an object, making sure they have views from lots of different angles. They can then cut up the photographs and assemble the pieces to make an image of the object where different sides can be seen at the same time. Students could further explore a specific printmaking technique, investigating how other artists have used and experiment with it. For example they could research Albrecht Dürer, Katsushika Hokusai and Mark Herald and see how the different artist have used wood or lino cut. 3 T Registered Charity No 0378
