Caplan Unit 1: Black & White Line Design Approximate Time Frame: 2 Weeks VA CS1 9 12a: apply media, techniques and processes with sufficient skill, confidence and sensitivity that their intentions are realized How do I successfully create a design that effectively incorporates the Elements and Principles of Design: balance and positive/negative By using a variety of patterns, line weights and designs, we can create a successful composition with aesthetic appeal. Students will be able to create a unique composition showing balanced use of positive and negative space Students will view and discuss various works of art that show a balanced use of positive and negative design throughout history Balance Texture Line Shape space? VA CS2 9 12b: Apply comprehension and skill in incorporating the elements of art and principles of design to generate multiple solutions and effectively solve a variety of visual art problems How did artists throughout history create balanced compositions? Why is an equal balance between positive/negative space important to a work s aesthetic appeal?
