Expand the raw talent and unknown possibilities of your students by exploring new techniques, palettes, and creative approaches to Western Art. Channelview ISD - Pastel
The images and messages depicted in this presentation are provided to stimulate ideas, and suggest new techniques. Copying any likeness of these images is not permitted as many are from professional artists. Some of these techniques are not be suitable for some students abilities. HLSR School Art is very proud of the hard work all students, teachers and administrators put forth every year. We wish you the very best and look forward to a successful 2015!
Conroe ISD Pastel Using pastels, oils and acrylics provide vivid colors, and textures. These mediums are popular with many high school programs.
2014 Lot 22 Pasadena ISD - Pencil Challenge the hues of black & whites with charcoals and graphite. Create depth with unique perspectives and leading lines.
Keys to a successful piece of artwork; - Pick a comfortable medium or practice with new medium before starting artwork, - Use multiple sources, - Subject should stimulate emotion, - Artwork should tell a story, - Strong contrasts and vivid colors help deliver the emotion of the artwork; - Don t be afraid to be creative!
A Desert Friend Sarah Webber - Oil Take a simple subject and maximize it with vivid colors, palettes and light. Oil and acrylic tints enhance typical flat colors.
He Thinks This Is Paradise Kenn Backhaus - Oil Even the very different subjects can create a memorable picture and story. Using negative space pulls attention to the subject matter.
Concho Teresa Elliott - Oil Livestock turned in unique positions create a different look. Complimentary background sources enhance the primary subject.
Perspectives from the bottom or top can help frame the subject in a positive light. Cypress Fairbanks ISD - Prismacolor (This unique background was used in this artwork, matching his eyes and framing him perfectly a good looking cowboy never hurts)
Clouds Brush Challenge your students to use multiple sources. Wolf Setting Rabbit This is a good sign of creative composition and is highly encouraged. Flat Out Bob Kuhn - Oil (Five sources were used in composing this artwork)
Textures added to backgrounds help stage the subject matter. Lighting source, framing and shadows are key to creating the perfect mood of the painting. Dickinson ISD - Prismacolor
Hangin With Blue Lordier Small Lack of detail can create a clear picture in most viewers eyes. Key highlights help with focal points. Keeping it simple can say so much.
2014 Lot 16 Clear Creek ISD - Oil Key focal points like the shadows behind the steer draw viewers to your subject. Looser palettes stimulate the viewers imagination.
Action takes on a whole new perspective when the background is a picture in itself. (Idea Use oils or acrylics for main subject and prismacolor for background) High Roller Sarah Phippen - Oil
Hilda Julie Nighswonger - Oil Using bright complimentary colors and palettes in your backgrounds will bring out the primary colors in your subjects.
Horse In Yellow Quang Ho - Oil Abstracts are beautiful works of art, but can be difficult to translate to a canvas without proper instruction and practice.
Wagon Cowboy Tent Hat Untensils Buckets Sources can be staged and photographed or pulled from other sources as secondary images. (Over 6 sources were used in composing this painting)
Acrylics in a loose palette, along with free use of colors, transform a normal picture into a vibrant rodeo scene Lot 24 Katy ISD - Acrylic
El Campo ISD - Prismacolor and Watercolor Abstract use of light and darks can create different moods and characters of livestock and western images.
Price of Admission Jan Mapes Good Ole Boys Jan Mapes Keep all 3D images simple and loose. Proper armature and secure mounting is mandatory for handling.
Significant Notes for 2015; - Students are allowed to take artwork home, - Second surface in all grades is not permitted, - Source Information Card has been modified, - Clasp on source envelope has been removed so tape can be used to close flap,
Congratulations, and good luck to all of you in Thank you! 2014 Grand Champion Spring Branch ISD - Paint
