1 PINWHEEL BATIK BABY QUILT TUTORIAL I have another fast and easy tutorial for you using the Ready Set GO Ultimate Cutting System Starter Set from AccuQuilt. I made a cute little batik quilt that can be used for a baby or on a table as a table topper. Page 1

Qube Book by Eleanor Burns Die Pick Over 70 free patterns included! This tutorial uses the AccuQuilt GO! cutter and dies but could easily be made with rotary cutting. If you would like me to add the rotary cutting directions just let me know and I ll update this post. This is a great scrap quilt to make as you only use a few pieces for each block. I used bright colorful batik fabrics for the baby quilt. 24 X 29 BABY QUILT Page 2

3 FABRICS: 1 yard background fabric 9 fat quarters in different colors 1/4 yard for binding 1 yard backing If you don't have the AccuQuilt GO! cutter and dies I have included rotary cutting directions. Just cut the pieces listed below and then follow the tutorial. Rotary Cutting Directions: Background print Cut 42-2½" x 4½" rectangles Cut 16-2½" squares Cut 28-3" squares and then cut them diagonally Cut 2-1½" x 24" border Block 1 - make 5 Cut 4-3" squares and then cut them diagonally from 5 different colors Block 2 - make 4 Cut 2-3" squares and then cut them diagonally from 4 different colors Cut 4-2½" squares and 4-2½" x 4½" rectangles for border in various colors Here is a diagram from one of my patterns to show you how to cut and piece your half square triangles. If I'm not using AccuQuilt dies, I always cut my square bigger and then trim. That is why I recommend cutting the 3" squares instead of 2 7/8". CUTTING DIRECTIONS: Background print Page 3

4 Cut 42 #8 (55715) rectangles Cut 16 #2 (55709) squares Cut 56 #5 (55712) half square triangles Cut 2 1 1/2 x 24 for border Block 1 make 5 Cut 8 #5 (55712) half square triangles from 5 different colors Block 2 make 4 Cut 4 #5 (55712) half square triangles from 4 different colors Cut 4 #2 (55709) squares and 4 #8 (55715) rectangles for border in various colors Cut 3 2 1/2 strips using the GO! Strip Cutter-2 1/2 (2 Finished) for the binding CUT 42 #8 (55715) RECTANGLES CUT THE HST PIECES Page 4

5 Sew each background HST to one of your bright color HSTs using a 1/4 seam allowance. It is so easy to match the dogeared corners and get perfect blocks! BLOCK 1 Layout your pieces as shown. Block 1 make 5 using a different fat quarter or scraps for each one. Page 5

6 BLOCK 2 Make your HSTs the same as block 1. You are making 4 HSTs for each block. Add a #2 square and a #8 rectangles to each HST as shown. Sew the 4 sections together. Page 6

7 Block 2 make 4 using a different fat quarter or scraps for each one. Layout your blocks and sew the rows together. This will make a baby quilt that is 24 x 24. I wanted the baby quilt to be a little longer so I added a couple borders. Cut 2 1 1/2 x 24 strips and sew to the top and bottom of the quilt using the AccuQuilt GO! 1 1/2 strip cutter. Page 7

8 Add a pieced border that includes 2 #2 squares and 5 #8 rectangles using the following diagram. I should have used the GO! Strip Cutter-2 1/2 for the first border, the quilt would have been 24 x 31. Add your batting and backing and quilt as desired. I did a medium free-motion stitching using my vintage Singer sewing machine. Cut the 2 2 1/2 strips width of fabric for the binding and sew together. Add the binding. Page 8

9 This would make a beautiful fast and easy baby quilt or it could be used as a wall hanging. This could also be used as a table topper, notice the runner below?
