1 Appalachian Treasures Quilt Show Appalachian Arts and Crafts Festival August 24, 25, and 26, Theme Two-Color Quilt The goal of Appalachian Treasures Quilt Show is to showcase the traditional art of quilting by providing a place for today s quilters to display their work with pride and satisfaction. Additionally, the show allows the quilters to sell their work if they so desire. It is also our intention to occasionally provide educational events dealing with all aspects of the traditional art of quilting. RULES AND REGULATIONS This year s quilt show will be held in the Raleigh County Convention Center. No quilt receiving an award in a previous year may be entered for judging except for Theme Category. Ribbons for first, second, third place, and honorable mention may be awarded in each category. In addition, Best of Show, Judge s Choice, Best Use of the Color Yellow, and People s Choice will be awarded a ribbon as well as a gift certificate. The theme category for the 2018 show is Two-Color Quilt. Due to space limitations each entrant is limited to 2 (two) bed sized quilts. There is no limit to other entries. An entry fee of $5.00 per item is required. Make checks payable to ATQS. 2 QUILT DOCUMENTATION You are encouraged to submit the story of each quilt item you enter. This documentation could include motivation, source of fabric (if historical), color choice, if it was started by someone else, etc. People who view the quilts enjoy knowing this type of information and we believe it is an interesting addition to the show. Your story will be printed to a standard size for uniformity in display. Print clearly or type your story on an 8 x 10 sheet of paper. Each story must be limited to one page. Make sure the following information is on the top of the paper: QUILT DOCUMENTATION, quilter s name and quilt name. It is not guaranteed that a story received after August 1 will be printed and hung on the quilt. Please read carefully QUILT SHOW SCHEDULE Quilt Registration at Convention Center: Wednesday, August 22nd between 7:00 AM - 10:00 AM. Show Hours: Friday, August 24th, 10:00 AM 6:00 PM Saturday, August 25th, 10:00 AM 6:00 PM Sunday, August 26th, 12:00 PM 5:00 PM Quilt Pick-up Time: Sunday, August 26th, 5:30 PM 6:30 PM. Claim slip must be presented to pick up quilt items. Award ribbons will be presented at this time. LABEL YOUR QUILT (S) To create a label: please label each quilt with the following information on a piece of white fabric: Name, City/Town, Quilt Name, Size, Price (if for sale) or Not for Sale. Please tack completed label to the bottom front right corner of the quilt. In order not to disclose the identity of the quilt maker during the judging process, please pin another piece of fabric over your label. Quilt Front label -2-

3 CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS Please carefully consider the placement of your quilt in its proper category. The quilt show committee reserves the right to determine the predominating technique in order to place your quilt in the proper category for judging. Please read the categories carefully as a couple of changes have been made. 1. Hand Pieced and Hand Quilted by one person 2. Machine Pieced and Hand Quilted by one person 3. Machine pieced and Machine Quilted by one person on a traditional machine 4. Long-arm/Mid-arm Machine Quilted includes quilts constructed and quilted by one individual 5. Two-person Quilt- includes quilts pieced by one person and quilted by a non-professional quilter (If professionally quilted see #14) 6. Hand Appliqué Hand Appliqué is the prominent technique one person 7. Machine Appliqué Machine Appliqué is the prominent technique one person 8. Baby size is 45 x 60 or less 9. Youth Quilt Any quilt made by youth up to and including age Miscellaneous Techniques Includes, but not confined to cathedral window, photo transfers, yo-yo, crayon and crazy quilts, hand embroidered, machine embroidered, etc. one person 11. Wall Hangings and Miniatures Intended for display on the wall; no side greater than 60 one person 12. Quilted Household Accessories and Wearable Quilted Clothing and/or Accessories one person 13. First Quilt The project of a beginning quilter, completed within the past five (5) years one person 14. Group or Co-operative Effort Constructed and/or quilted by a group of different individuals including commercially quilted items (pieced by one person and quilted by a professional/paid quilter) 15. Annual Theme Category A quilt or related item pertaining to the designated theme of the show. This year s theme is Two-Color Quilt. OVER -3-

I understand that the Appalachian Treasures Quilt Committee and the Appalachian Arts and Craft Festival cannot be held responsible for my articles, although the utmost care and security will be provided. Due to time constraints items will not be checked for stains and marks during registration. Please be aware of any existing marks and/or issues with your item prior to entry. An entry fee of $5.00 will be required for each item entered. If the item is for sale, the price must be stated on the application form and item label. Please note that 16% of the sale price will be deducted by Appalachian Festival at time of sale. Checks should be made payable to ATQS. 6 QUILT ENTRY FORM C In order for the Appalachian Treasures Quilt Show to continue, we would like to encourage our entrants to volunteer their time during the show. The duty of the volunteers is to keep an eye on the quilts and make sure that people are not touching the quilts without a glove. Also volunteers make sure that no one enters the quilt area with food or drinks. Look at the time slots listed below and indicate your first and second choice for your volunteer time.
