Baby Burp Cloth This project demonstrates how to quickly create a Baby Burp Cloth pattern using a Point-to-Point (P2P) pattern and the Apply Pattern Feature.

A block pattern usually has the start/end points located in the middle of the pattern where it might be least visible.

P2P patterns also are no longer restricted to straight lines as the Apply Pattern Feature will curve the P2P pattern to follow the path of your selected pattern.

3 Baby Burp Cloth This project demonstrates how to quickly create a Baby Burp Cloth pattern using a Point-to-Point (P2P) pattern and the Apply Pattern Feature. A P2P pattern, by definition, will have the start/end points on the same plane or horizontal line. A block pattern usually has the start/end points located in the middle of the pattern where it might be least visible. Apply Pattern automatically places P2P patterns following the path of another pattern. Patterns placed using Apply will automatically connect and sew continuously. P2P patterns also are no longer restricted to straight lines as the Apply Pattern Feature will curve the P2P pattern to follow the path of your selected pattern. Create Outside Border Using Apply Pattern First, we ll create the outside border using a simple oval outline and a P2P Swag pattern. 1. Using Repeat Patterns, place the table runner outline1 2. Create 2 echoes by right clicking and selecting Echo Pattern. The first one should be.25 this will be your cutting line. The second should be -.50 and this will be the Path Pattern. 3. Select the Janis s swag rotated and small pattern. I ve already resized this pattern but most patterns will need to be reduced in size. The size needs to be small but cannot go below.09 inches. 4. Highlight the Path pattern on the CAD Screen. If there are more than two patterns stacked on the CAD screen, you will need use the < & > keys to select the Path Pattern. 5. Right click and choose Apply Pattern (using the icon or right clicking and selecting it in the dialog box). Important Delete the Path Pattern before stitching - unless the applied pattern would look better with it! In this case, I left it. Place Crosshatch For Trim Pattern 1. Using Repeat Patterns, place the crosshatch for trim pattern on the CAD screen. 2. Adjust the pattern so that it fits inside the border and is centered. Tip: For easy centering, select the runner outline pattern1 to display the pattern handles. Using P2P Line, draw a reference line where the center of the pattern is. Then delete after placing crosshatch for trim pattern. 3

Add P2P Lines 1. Using P2P Line and the grid on the CAD Screen set to.25 inch, draw two sets of double.25 inch parallel lines separated by.75 inch.

Adjust the pattern so that it fits inside the border between the parallel lines. 3. Repeat for the other side, rotating the pattern 180 degrees.

4 Add P2P Lines 1. Using P2P Line and the grid on the CAD Screen set to.25 inch, draw two sets of double.25 inch parallel lines separated by.75 inch. Place Sashing 1. Using Repeat Patterns, place either the heart sash or sailboat sash 2. Adjust the pattern so that it fits inside the border between the parallel lines. 3. Repeat for the other side, rotating the pattern 180 degrees. Place Rattle or Anchor Design 1. Using Repeat Patterns, place the Baby Rattle_Ribbon 5_67 or the AMCRBRUR (Anchor) 2. Adjust and rotate the pattern so that it fits inside the border in the area on the end of the burp cloth. 3. Repeat for the other side, rotating the pattern 180 degrees. Stitch Out the Pattern! You re ready to stitch out the pattern. I used white thread and white sateen fabric on the top and either or pink or blue polka-dot backing. I switched thread colors when I stitched out the Anchor or Rattle designs to blue or pink. Finish with stippling around designs. I used free motion quilting to stipple the background around the Anchor or Rattle, but this is optional. Cut out the burp cloth on the cutting line and stitch binding to match the backing using the stitching line. 4

Baby Bib For the Baby Bib Project, I used a free downloadable pattern and used the Import Image feature and Draw Sewable Curve to create the outline for the bib.

Create Bib Pattern First, we ll create the outside border using a free pattern found at the following link: Free Downloadable Bib Pattern. 1.

Tip: Adjust the Image Attributes to reduce the Image Opacity so you can see where you re clicking when creating the pattern in the next step.

I used Draw Sewable Curve because the pattern has curved lines and this feature will create both blue arc nodes and pink endpoint nodes in your pattern.

5 Baby Bib For the Baby Bib Project, I used a free downloadable pattern and used the Import Image feature and Draw Sewable Curve to create the outline for the bib. This technique can be used to create all kinds of patterns just make sure the designs are not copywrited and are free to use. Create Bib Pattern First, we ll create the outside border using a free pattern found at the following link: Free Downloadable Bib Pattern. 1. Using Import Image from the File dropdown menu, select the image you downloaded from the internet. Creative Studio imports an image into a new Design Group tab. Tip: Adjust the Image Attributes to reduce the Image Opacity so you can see where you re clicking when creating the pattern in the next step. To do this, right click on the CAD, and select Image Attributes and use the slider to reduce the opacity. 2. Using Draw Sewable Curve, click on points along the pattern outline. I used Draw Sewable Curve because the pattern has curved lines and this feature will create both blue arc nodes and pink endpoint nodes in your pattern. But if your pattern has straight lines you ll want to use Draw Sewable P2P Line instead and use only the pink endpoint nodes. 3. Fine tune the pattern using the Nodes pattern anchor mode. Right click the pattern and choose Nodes or tap the nodes icon on the right side of the screen. Drag the pink nodes so they are directly over the outline on the picture and manipulate the blue arc nodes around the curves. 4. Once you are finished, export your completed pattern by right clicking the selected pattern and choosing Export Pattern, To CSQ. Note: The original downloaded pattern did not have enough length on the overlap, so the pattern I created and provided with this project has a longer overlap. I also decided to make the corners more square instead of round. But it s however you decide you want the pattern to be! Now you re ready to use your pattern to make a bib to match the burp cloth! 5

Add a new Quilt Group and using Repeat Patterns, place the bib 2. The width of the bib pattern should be 7.5 inches. 3. Create 2 echoes by right clicking and selecting Echo Pattern. The first one should be.25 this will be your cutting line. The second should be -.25 and this will be the Path Pattern. 4. Select the Janis s swag - flipped pattern. I ve already resized this pattern but most patterns will need to be reduced in size. The size needs to be small but cannot go below.09 inches. 5. Highlight the Path pattern on the CAD Screen. If there are more than two patterns stacked on the CAD screen, you will need use the < & > keys to select the Path Pattern. 6. Right click and choose Apply Pattern (using the icon or right clicking and selecting it in the dialog box). An option is to divide the path pattern into segments using the Node Mode and apply the P2P pattern to each segment separately. Or the applied pattern can be adjusted using the Node Mode.
