1 Hexagon Snowmen Quilt Do I want to build a?snowman? Yes I do! I hope you are all ready this holiday season for all the happiness, family, friends and gifts. I have this little frozen guy to share with you. He s so fast and fun. In the book Hexagons Made Easy, there s a Snowman table runner made with 4 quilt blocks. Cute right? But I needed to make a gift, just a bit faster.

2 I changed it up a bit and used two hexagons to make a smaller, single-block Hexagon Snowman Wallhanging, featuring the same technique described in the book.

3 I opted to have a non-holiday background fabric and two fabric scraps of patterned white fabric will make his body.

4 Um, yeah. He s gonna need some clothes. Thankfully, I actually have leftover felted sweater scraps in my sewing room. (That s not weird, right??) I machine appliqued the prepared hexagons to the background using a straight stitch. And then added his clothes once his body was complete. I considered button eyes, but then I thought every craft snowman has round button eyes. I think I can give him some personality if he has felted cashmere sweater eyes. I did have to

5 hand sew those on, by the way.

6 The quilting was very fast since the piece is only 14 x 16. I just quickly stitched some wavy vertical lines on the background. He s not going to be washed, so I really am not all that worried about the density of the quilting. I did echo quilt a tiny bit within his body. (see below) After I bound him in red, he s finished. He s ready to head over to my friend s house for the winter.

7 Kool-Aid Liquid Snowman Craft Tutorial I thought it was about time for a little crafty tutorial. What do ya say? Have you seen these Kool-Aid Liquids out at the grocery lately? The kids talked the hubbs into buying a few and it turns out, they are GREAT. And they are perfect for an easy snowman craft. Since it is only August, I think by the time December rolls around, we d be up to our eyes in Kool-Aid Liquid Snowmen. This one is so easy, I think the kids will really like it too. Alrighty, lets get to recycling and reusing this little KoolAid container. This is the first one, and how I made him. I took photos, as you do for a tutorial, but really- I think you ll figure it out with the first picture. Supplies And here are the supplies you ll need. (Though, I think for other snowmen that I add to the snowmen horde, I will have a black felt hat. The buttons look waaaayyy too much like Devo s Whip It! Snowman.)

8 Empty, Clean Kool-Aid Liquid Container Sharpie Black and Orange Glue like Aileens or 1600 Glue Scrap Fabric (Anna Maria Horner fabric shown) Stacked Buttons (or not) How-To Seriously- just a few easy steps. 1. Take off the Kool-Aid packaging and clean the outside of the container with soap and water. 2. Add the sharpie for his eyes, buttons and nose. (His nose is really all orange. There s a bit of window glare on the picture.)

I used two sizes of buttons and all of these were from a garage sale button stash I have.

9 3. Tie on the fabric scarf and use a dot of glue to secure it. (Poor guy looks like he s going into surgery.) 4. Stack the buttons on his head, gluing each one as it is added. I used two sizes of buttons and all of these were from a garage sale button stash I have. Maybe I ll make another guy with RED buttons for the full effect. Great. Now that song is stuck in my head I bet you do too. You re welcome. That s it. Let the glue dry. I think I might even add a wire on the back of the scarf (glued down) so that I might even be able to hang these little guys on a Christmas tree or wreath.

10 Snowman Table Runner The tree is up. The guests are due here at the house this evening. The gifts are wrapped and even the studio is super clean. So I took about minutes to make up this super fast snowman table runner for our festivities. Well, that and to mess up the sewing room for a bit. Having it so clean I almost didn t recognize it in there!!!

11 The runner has heavy sew-in interfacing in it. That is the only thing sandwiched between the two layers of Kona Cotton. The face is fusible raw-edge applique d. Super super fast to make. Oh and if you are curious it is 14 x about 40.

12 If I was going to make it again, I might give him a curvy body but that wouldn t take 20 minutes to make. So now, back to cleaning the last little bit and recleaning the sewing studio. Happy Happy to you and yours this holiday season!
