1 Prairie Pointer K O N Z A P R A I R I E Q U I L T E R S G U I L D N E W S L E T T E R E D I T O R : R A C H E L M O R E L A N D March 1, 2018 Meeting second Monday of each month at St. Thomas Me Catholic Church 2900 Kimball Ave Manhattan, Kansas Social time at 8:30 a.m.; meeting begins at 9 a.m. Pres Sez: First of all, thanks to Judi Lyon our speaker f February and to all of you f making adjustments in our usual meeting schedule to accommodate a family's funeral lunch. I especially missed seeing all of your lovely projects at show and tell. That means that we can all look fward to an especially busy show and tell at our March meeting including a preview of some of the mini quilts being donated to our auction in May. One of the business items the guild's board members have been wking on is a two-year budget plan. Me details about this will be presented at the March meeting, but in fming a budget plan we looked at several options to help keep our guild vibrant and active while meeting our financial needs. It takes EVERYONE wking together to keep our expenditures down while still providing interesting speakers, challenging and fun activities, and philanthropic programs. Which brings me back once again to emphasizing how imptant it is f each of us to suppt the Mini-Quilt Auction and Luncheon as one of our maj fund raising events every other year. Speaking of the auction, if you haven't already signed up to help, we are still in need of several volunteers to make this event a success. Please check out the "Volunteers Needed" section of the newsletter to see what help is still needed. Meanwhile, keep quilting and remember, "Blankets keep you warm but quilts wrap you in love." She then makes it into her President s Quilt as a memoir of her year in office. This year, Betty is making it very easy f us. Instead of choosing a pattern, she is asking us to make it in the pattern of our choice pieced, paper pieced, applique whatever you desire. Woodinville WA: Martingale Co., p. Hickey presents 16 baby quilts. Most are pieced and a few are appliquéd. Several examples feature 1930s reproduction fabrics. The auth promises simplified ways to construct classic blocks. Featured blocks include bow ties, garden baskets, hearts, and flowers. The quilts are divided into three categies super-easy, simple appliqué, and easy quilts that look hard. As presented, the quilts are rather small but they could be enlarged with larger additional blocks. PLEASE... Membership is open to all those interested in quilts and quilting. Yearly dues are $35 and include 12 Opptunity Tickets, admission to all meetings, monthly newsletter, access to library materials, block of the month patterns, and opptunity to participate in wkshops, field trips and public events.
