DEPARTMENT 1. All state rules and local rules apply. 2. All divisions are open to amateurs and professionals unless otherwise stated. 3. Projects made by groups must be entered in classes designated for groups. 4. The American system of judging is used in all classes. All entries are judged on their overall effect, workmanship, technique, and creativity as appropriate to the Division and Class entered. 5. Stained, soiled, unsanitary, or objectionable articles will be refused and returned to exhibitor without being judged or displayed. 6. EACH EXHIBITOR IS LIMITED TO 2 ENTRIES PER CLASS, except for Collections which is limited to 1 entry per exhibitor. If an exhibitor has excess entries in a class the item(s) with the higher entry number(s) will be disqualified. 7. Items must be entered in the class that describes (names) that item. Other classes are for items that do not fit in a named class by definition or description. Items that are incorrectly entered may be disqualified. 8. An entry is one (1) item (not sets) unless otherwise specified in division rules. All items that are part of a set must be securely attached together for display. 9. All entries must have been completed by the individual entrant within two years of the opening date of the fair. Items determined to have been entered in any previous year s fair will be eliminated from judging and returned to the exhibitor. 10. All items must be sturdy enough to be handled and moved. No special handling possible. 11. All stained glass, paintings, and ceramics/pottery must be entered in the Fine Arts Department. All woodworking must be entered in the Technology and Industrial Arts Department. 12. Fiber-based jewelry is permitted in divisions where specified. All other jewelry must be entered in Fine Arts Galleria. 13. Items will only be released during the designated entry release times due to safety and security. Early release is not possible. 14. Challenges are open to groups of six (6) or more individuals. Each group must submit a display board not larger than 9 x 12 explaining the challenge. 5 QUILTS AWARDS OFFERED DIVISIONS st Place $50 2 nd Place $35 3 rd Place $20 1. All quilts must be entirely constructed and quilted by the individual entrant, except in Divisions 620, 621, ALL QUILTS MUST HAVE A 4 HANGING SLEEVE. (A tube sewn to the top of the quilt back). Quilts without sleeves cannot be hung. 3. Any quilt which was quilted using computerized methods or a combination of computerized & hand-guided MUST be entered in the computerized quilting class, if available in an appropriate division. Computerized quilting - quilting pattern guided by a computer, such as the Statler Stitcher or IntelliQuilt systems. 4. Quilted accessories, such as table runners, tree skirts, bags, etc., must be entered in divisions 600 and IT IS THE QUILTER S RESPONSIBILITY TO ACCURATELY MEASURE, DETERMINE PERIMETER AND ENTER IN THE APPROPRIATE DIVISION AND CLASS. INCORRECTLY ENTERED ITEMS ARE INELIGIBLE FOR PRIZES! (with nearly 400 quilts entered, it is impractical/impossible for staff to measure all quilts and change classes. If you need assistance, contact Julie Curry or Gale Green before entering!!) 6. Perimeter equals (Width + Length) x No framed or wired items quilts must be foldable. DIVISION 620 QUILT TOP MADE BY ONE PERSON/PROFESSIONALLY QUILTED BY ANOTHER 1. All projects pieced by one individual entrant and quilted by a separate professional quilter MUST be entered in this division. Professional quilter a person or business providing quilting services for a fee. 2. List name of maker (entrant) and professional quilter. 1. Computerized quilting, X-Large quilt perimeter 340 or greater all techniques 2. Computerized quilting, Large quilt perimeter all techniques 3. Computerized quilting, Medium quilt--perimeter all techniques 4. Computerized quilting, Small quilt--perimeter less than Hand-guided quilting, X-Large quilt perimeter 340 or greater 6. Hand-guided quilting, Large quilt perimeter between Hand-guided quilting, Medium quilt perimeter between Hand-guided quilting, Small quilt perimeter less than 220 DIVISION 621 GROUP QUILTS 1. Quilt made by a group of 2 or more people. 2. Groups which include youths must enter the Youth Exhibits Department. 3. Any adult quilting group may enter this class such as friendship, round robin, or opportunity quilts. 1. Computerized quilting any size 2. Large/X-Large quilt perimeter 250 or greater 3. Small/Medium quilt perimeter less than
6 DIVISION 622 QUILT CHALLENGE 1. This division is open to groups of 6 or more individuals. A separate class will be created for each challenge group after entries are received. Challenge groups with fewer than 6 entrants will not be judged or displayed. 2. Each individual must enter separately and specify the group name under entry description. 3. Each group MUST submit a display board no larger than 9 x 12 explaining the challenge when entries are received. 4. Each entry must meet the challenge criteria as explained on the display board. 5. Round robin, friendship, and group quilts should be entered in Division A quilt class is not a quilt challenge. 7. Professionally quilted quilts are permitted in this division. 8. Mini Me Challenge: Enter a quilt made with regular-size blocks & its related mini. The mini version does not have to be made of the same fabrics nor have the same number of blocks. The mini must be made from blocks that are half-size or smaller versions of the regular-sized blocks. Both quilts are one entry in the Mini Me class. 9. Carry the Light Challenge is open to individuals and groups. The special award is given to the quilt in this class which best represents the theme Carry the Light. This is open to interpretation, which may be literal, symbolic, visual or suggestive of the theme. Minimum perimeter 280 Contact the Department Coordinator Julie Curry for questions. 1. Wholecloth quilt, - any size 5. Embroidered or stenciled quilt - any size DIVISION QUILTED WALL HANGINGS 1. All entries must be entirely completed by ONE individual entrant, professional or amateur. 2. Quilt s sole function is to hang on a wall. 1. Embellished quilt - may have, buttons, crystals, etc. any size. 2. Large Art quilt, original design by entrant perimeter 120 or greater 3. Small Art quilt, original design by entrant perimeter less than Miniature quilt: a scaled down, proportional version of a larger quilt total perimeter of 120 or less 5. Small, pieced perimeter less than
7 DIVISION 626 MODERN QUILT Modern quilts are primarily functional and inspired by modern design. Modern quilters work in different styles and define modern quilting in different ways, but several characteristics often appear which may help identify a modern quilt. These include, but are not limited to: the use of bold colors and prints, high contrast and graphic areas of solid color, improvisational piecing, minimalism, expansive negative space, and alternate grid work. Modern traditionalism or the updating of classic quilt designs is also often seen in modern quilting. (From Enter in this Division if you want your quilt judged as a Modern Quilt. 1. All entries in Division 627 must be entirely completed by ONE individual entrant, professional or amateur. 1. Large/X-Large quilt perimeter 250 or greater 2. Sets may be entered only in the classes which specify sets permitted. 3. Machine embroidered items must be entered in Division D/ Figural refers to the needlework piece, not the mounting/display. DIVISION 630 NEEDLEPOINT Size is determined by the measurement of the needlework, not the frame and/or mat 1. Small Needlepoint wallhanging, framed or unframed less than 12 on any side 2. Large needlepoint wallhanging, framed or unframed greater than 12 on any side 3. Pillow or 3-D Figural/free-standing piece (box, figure, ornament etc. 4. Other -- specify DIVISION CROSS STITCH & COUNTED THREAD WORK Size is determined by the measurement of the needlework, not the frame and/or mat. DIVISION EMBELLISHED ITEM The entry will be judged on the design and skill with which the exhibitor used the technique(s) to embellish the readymade piece. Bling Your Shoe: A shoe can say so much about you. Get creative and express who you are by embellishing a shoe. Use paint, stitchery, beadwork or any medium you can think of. Shoe does not need to be wearable and will be judged with an emphasis on visual effect. 1. Non-wearable item embellished with paint, stitchery, beadwork or a combination of techniques 2. DIVISION CULTURAL CRAFTS Items created by using traditional crafts associated with a particular culture. 1. Single decorative item - mask, dream catcher, origami etc. 2. Single item made for use - basket, tool, garment, etc. DIVISION PAPER CRAFTS 1. All framed entries must have hanging wire on back. 2. Size is determined by the measurement of the work, not the frame AND/OR MAT. 1. 3D Paper shadow box, Small Diagonal measurement is less than D Paper shadow box, Medium Diagonal measurement is between 9 and D Paper shadow box, Large Diagonal measurement is greater than Scrapbooking provide TWO ATTACHED, consecutive pages. 5. Coins? Postcards? Bobbins? Would you like to share your interest? The number and size of exhibits are limited by the number and size of available display cases. Plastic display cases are approximately 29 W x 29 D x 14 H. Shared wall case display spaces are approximately 35 W x 17 D x 20 H. Display space selection is on a first come, first served basis. No early set-up. Please include the name of the collection on your entry form. Collections set-up is Thursday, June 7 between 4 PM 7 PM in the south east corner of Expo Hall. Collections should be picked up Monday, June 18 between 2-7 PM. 1. Individuals and groups may enter. Youth Collections must be entered in Youth Exhibits under Miscellaneous Projects- Collections 2. ONE ENTRY PER EXHIBITOR. 3. Items must be owned by exhibitor, but need not have been made by the exhibitor. Collection must not have been displayed at this fair within the past five years. 4. Each collection must include an information card or cards no larger than 15 in either dimension. The card must include: Collection name and Information regarding the exhibit. 5. Collections will be judged on the following criteria: Overall presentation of the display, including background and card Uniqueness and variety of items displayed Informative and/or historical value of the collection as provided on the informational card. 1.
