Steil-Run Tool The new, unique Steil-Run tool will help you easily create beautiful, textured borders that can add style and flair to any project. Once a segment has been converted to this new stitch, you can modify the properties of steil and run portions separately in the properties panel. To create a Steil-run Segment: 1. Select the outline segment you want to convert. 2. On the Stitch Effects toolbar, select the Steil-Run tool. 3. The selected segment will now combine steil and run components. 4. (Optional) By default, the steil component of the segment will sew first; if you want to change the sewing order, select the Steil run tab in the Properties panel and change the order to Run first. 5. Adjust Steil and Run properties in the Properties panel, as required. For more information, see Changing Segment Settings Run Properties and Changing Segment Settings Steil Properties. 6. Click Apply. Steil-Run Tool
Motif Stitch Enhancements A lot of time and effort has been put into the Motif features and we are excited to show what new things can be created using them. Here is a list of new motif functions: Variable Size - this allows you to apply a Linear Increasing, Linear Decreasing, Convex, or Concave pattern to a motif line. Linear increasing: Gradually increases the pattern size from a minimum value to the set value. Linear decreasing: Gradually decreases the pattern size from the set value to a minimum value.
Motif Stitch Enhancements Convex: Gradually increases the pattern size from a minimum value at the beginning of the segment to the set value at the center of the segment, then decreases it to a minimum at the end of the segment. Concave: Gradually decreases the pattern size from the set value at the beginning of the segment to a minimum size at the center of the segment, and then increases it to the set value at the end of the segment. Motif Variable Size Arrange Motif Horizontally or Vertically The H-arrange and V-arrange settings for motif run stitch segments allow you to make new motif patterns by changing the orientation of individual units in an existing pattern. These settings determine the arrangement in the horizontal direction (H-arrange) and the vertical direction (V-arrange). The default setting for both is None - when both are set to None the motif pattern is in the original state. The Flip setting reverses the orientation of all unit of a motif pattern. The Alternate setting will flip only every other motif in the pattern.
Motif Stitch Enhancements To adjust the arrange settings: Select a Motif Run stitch segment. In the properties panel, select the Run tab. You see the Motif properties. Click in the H-arrange field, and select Flip or Alternate from the drop-down list. Click in the V-arrange field, and select Flip or Alternate from the drop-down list. Click Apply. The selected motif run segment will be altered accordingly. H-Arrange - allows the motif pattern to "Flip" (change direction horizontally) or "Alternate" (every other motif repeat reverses direction horizontally). V-Arrange - allows the motif pattern to "Flip" (change direction Vertically) or "Alternate" (every other motif repeat reverses direction vertically). Motif Arrange Options
Motif Stitch Enhancements Motif Inset Percentage Use the Inset Percentage setting to shift the position of the motif stitch border relative to the original outline of the shape. Insetting the Motif stitches allows you to compensate for any gaps that may appear between the border and the fill pieces of the square. To set the inset distance: Select the motif stitch segment. On the properties panel. select the Run Extra tab. In the Inset (%) field, enter the desired inset percentage. A 50% offset (the default value) means that the motif run exactly straddles the outline; a 0% offset means that the motif is just outside the outline; and a 100% offset means that the motif is entirely inside the outline. Click Apply. The offset will be applied to the Motif segment. Inset Distance - shifts the position of the motif stitch border relative to the original outline of the shape. A 50% offset means that the motif run is centered to the outline. A 0% offset means the motif is just outside the outline. A 100% offset means the motif is entirely inside the outline. Motif Inset
Motif Stitch Enhancements Motif Mixed Fill Pattern The Motif Mixed Fill Pattern option adds a second Motif Pattern to the fill. When this option is applied, the two fill types will appear as alternating rows in the filled object. To adjust Fill properties: Select a Motif Segment. In the Properties box, click the Fill tab. From the Pattern list, select the fill pattern you want to apply. To add a second pattern to the fill, do the following: - Check the Mixed Patterns box. The Pattern2 field becomes active. - In the Pattern2 drop-down list, select a second Motif pattern. A shape with mixed texture fills applied In the Pattern Size field, enter the pattern size value to determine the dimension of the of repeated fill pattern. In the stitch length field, enter the basic stitch length for the fill pattern; this length will be the maintained even if the pattern size is increased or decreased. Click Apply. The fill segment will be changed accordingly. Mixed Fill Motif
Highlight Selected Objects Enhancement Highlights have been added to the object outline and Angle Lines for satin and fill stitches when in Edit mode to make it easier to see them. Bean Stitch Tools and Features Satin Bean Fill Option The new Satin Bean fill option creates a beautiful hand-sewn look to satin objects in a design. Because this is a Satin stitch effect, this feature will only work on satin stitch objects. It will not work with running stitches like a standard bean pattern does. Instead of going from one edge to the other while progressing through the object like a standard satin stitch, this feature incorporates a bean stitch into the progression. It will repeat each line between 3 and 9 times (depending on the option chosen) giving each line a thick, hand-sewn look when stitched. Below shows how to apply the bean pattern to a satin stitch and an actual stitch out of the bean pattern.
Bean Stitch Tools and Features The densities for the bean satin fill shown above are the default density settings for each repeat option. For example, if you choose "3" in the Repeats box the software will automatically apply a 1.4mm density to that Satin Bean stitch. It is recommended to use the default density or a density lighter than the default. A. Random repeat option will randomize the number of repeats in the satin bean between lines and will modify the position of the points along the sides to give it a unique, distressed appearance. It is recommended to use at least a 2.0mm density when utilizing this option. B. Repeat Both Sides checkbox allows you to create a different version of the satin bean stitch. By default this boxed is checked. If unchecked, the pattern will utilize a bean repeat going one direction and then jump across with a single stitch. Every other stitch is a bean/repeat stitch. This will give you a thick line going one direction and a thin line going the other. Satin Bean Feature
Bean Stitch Tools and Features Creating Bean Run Stitches and Available Options Applying a bean stitch to a running stitch is a little different now than in the previous version of the software. First, you will choose a bean repeat from the new "Run Extra" tab. From this tab you will be able to apply a bean stitch (and choose the number of repeats) or a Half Bean stitch. Also, you will have the ability to randomize the stitch length of the bean run and how much (by percentage) it can vary. See image and descriptions below: A. Bean Style is where you choose the type of bean stitch you'd like to apply to the run stitch. 1. None - this is the default option. This option means a standard run will be used instead of a bean. 2. Bean - this option allows you to apply a standard bean run to the stitch. Once you choose this option, you will be able to select the number of bean repeats: 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11. The repeat option will appear after selecting "Bean" from the Bean Style drop down. 3. Half Bean - this option applies a new, unique style of bean repeat pattern to a run stitch. When selecting Half Bean from the Bean Style drop down, a new setting titled "Offset bean angle (-80,80):" will appear. Here you can offset the stitches vertically by a percentage. Make sure to watch the video to see how these options progress from one side to the other. 0% 20% -20%
Bean Stitch Tools and Features B. Stitch Length Random Range (mm) allows you to specify the range of a random bean stitch length. This value should be the same or lower than the "Stitch Length" in the "Run" tab. Bean Run Options C. Stitch length random offset (%) allows you to control how much variation is created between random stitch points. The higher the percentage, the less variance. The lower the percentage, the higher the variance between stitch points. Setting Value Image Stitch length random range (mm) Stitch length random offset (%) Stitch length random range (mm) Stitch length random offset (%) Stitch length random range (mm) Stitch length random offset (%) Stitch length random range (mm) Stitch length random offset (%) 0 0% 3.0 0% % % Artwork Tools Function like Digitizing Tools The functionality of the Artwork Shapes had been redesigned to work similar to the manual artwork and stitch tools. After created a shape the tool now remains active allowing you to create as many shapes as needed. Once you have all the shapes you need you click on the Selection tool to turn it off. Artwork Tools
Arrange Toolbars and Save Workspace While we try very hard to keep all tools in the same location, there are times when we must switch some up. The tools are broken up into more sections based on the types of tool. This allows the groups to be relocated to provide a workflow that works best for the user. Toolbars and Workspace Also, you now have the ability to save a workflow after you position everything how and where you want it. You can save many different workflows and switch between them as desired. Switching workflows does not require the software to be closed and reopened. Convert to Outlines Update If you working with a design that was created using a different software and/or is in a format other that the native.waf format, converting a design to outlines is necessary if you want to editing things like stitch length, density, and other stitch properties. You do not need to convert a design to outlines if planning to just change design colors, adding other embroidery objects to the design, merging other designs into the design, or resizing up or down by 15%. In this update we have provided different options for converting a design to outlines as needed. By default, the convert to outlines feature is turned off (unchecked in the Open dialog window) in order to maintain the integrity of the original design. This feature can be turned on in the Preferences for the software.
Convert to Outlines Update File->Open Tools->Preferences Because converting a design to Convert to Outlines outlines is required to do things like change stitch properties for the design, we added a way to convert the entire design or just selected objects to outlines after it has been opened. To do this, with the entire design selected (or just specific objects) right mouse click and choose the "Convert to outlines" option. This will convert all selected objects to outlines allowing you to more fully edit the design objects. For a more thorough explanation on converting designs to outlines make sure to watch the video created for this feature. Convert to Outlines Update We added the ability to rotate a font when created your own keyboard fonts using the Font Importer. This is particularly useful when working with a letter that was originally saved at an angle. Original Rotated
