2 The McDougal Story The world s largest HUSQVARNA VIKING sewing machine retailer began humbly, with a small store called Bob McDougal Sewing Machine Co. in the Houston Heights area. Bob believed that hard work, honesty and building long-term relationships with his customers would lead to success, and it turned out he was right. Bob passed his beliefs, his work ethic, on to generations of his family. Bob s youngest grandson, Dan Welch, along with his wife Karen, now owns and operates McDougal Sewing Center s 4,000 sq. ft. main store in Katy, plus their five stores located within Jo-Ann Stores. Dan and Karen have worked hard to honor Bob McDougal s legacy, while always striving to introduce the newest in sewing and embroidery innovation to their customers. Dan and Karen have a simple business philosophy: to provide their customers with the very finest products, expertise and instruction available, always at an affordable price. 3 Education & Events Sewing Tip from Carla Threads for Your Thoughts Thread weights can be so confusing! Let s demystify thread, shall we? With thread, the general rule is that the higher the weight number the thinner the thread. This means a 50wt thread is finer/thinner than a 30wt thread. 40wt Thread Most embroidery threads are 40wt and are shiny in appearance. These threads can be made of polyester or rayon. It is not uncommon for embroidery threads to be wound looser than all purpose/ construction threads so that they can fill the embroidered area beautifully. Many prefer to embroider with a polyester thread so that there is no worry about bleeding or fading of their colors even if bleached. 50wt Thread Many piecing threads are 50wt. For piecing a quilt together, a lighter weight thread is preferred. Since it is important for your finished block to be a specific measurement, one does not want to have a heavy thread taking up extra space in the seam allowance. 60wt Micro Thread This micro-thin polyester thread beautifully defines stitching and embellishment. It is ideal for fine or micro embroidery on delicate fabrics as well as very small lettering, scroll work and lace. Small lettering has never been so BIG! RNK Micro Thread can also be used as a matching bobbin thread for most 40 weight embroidery thread. Perfect Cotton Plus This is a 60wt piecing thread and comes in 60 luscious colors.
