2 Quilt Show Convenor Lisette Léveillé Greetings RVQG Members The countdown is on! Just 5 months away from the Guild s Quilt at the Rouge Quilts Show. Quilters are busy finalizing their holiday gifts, adding the final stitches to their quilt display, or better yet, are busy creating a new quilt for the Quilt Show Challenge. I m well surrounded and pleased that we have a great Quilt Show Committee. You can all be proud of how many details have been put into the Show, and there is much more that needs to be defined. I personally thank each and everyone Teresa, Sally, Irene, Lynn, Liz, Joanne, Terry, Jean, June, Donna, Laura, Gail, and Finola for their dedication and support in this great adventure. I hope you find this newsletter helpful in locating all the details for the Quilt Show, and what better way to express your support by participating in one of the areas. We welcome all Guild members to sign-up as a volunteer at the Quilt Show, be it *** Before During and After *** the quilt show to make it a success Many of the activities during the show help to cover the cost of the quilt show and future guild activities. Guild members with baking skills, we need your sweet treats for the Guild Bakery. If you are able to donate a quilted product or general gift for the Guild Silent Auction, we are grateful for your generosity. The Guild Shop will be there and ready to sell your quilted products or treasures. Quilt at the Rouge Quilt Show will be at the Pickering Recreational Complex, the weekend before Mother s Day. Holding a Quilt Show is a way for you, our Guild membership, to showcase the passion of quilting, to exhibit your Quilts and receive all the applause and hooplas that you deserve. Be it that you are a beginner quilter and learning a basic patchwork or you are an experienced quilter and discovering new techniques, everyone can benefit from viewing and admiring each other s work, particular pattern, mix of color, or simply a new creation. Today, quilting is not only to showcase a traditional hobby, but provides the opportunity to admire how quilting has evolved in the areas of piecing, appliqué, mix of techniques, modern, art, color, fabric selections, etc. Our Merchants Mall will cover boutiques from all over Ontario North, East, West, GTA and local. We look forward to admiring your quilts in the display, knowing the effort and many hours you have put into your creation. On behalf of the Quilt Show Committee, we look forward in putting the final stitches into the show activities. HAPPY QUILTING and we look forward to your participation. Page 2

(See illustration.) For a large and wall quilt, cut an 8½"-wide piece of fabric that measures the full width of the quilt. For a smaller quilt cut a 3½" or 4" wide piece of fabric that measures the full width of the quilt. Hem both short ends. With wrong sides facing, sew the long sides together. Press the seam allowances open. Position the seam in the centre of one side of the tube. Then press the whole tube flat. With the open seam facing the quilt backing, place the top fold of the sleeve just below the binding at the top of the quilt and center the sleeve between the sides. Quilt Registration and Display volunteers will receive quilts from members, complete the registration and take the quilts to the display racks where more volunteers will hang the quilts. After the show on Sunday, the volunteers will take the quilts off the racks and take them to the registration area where they will be checked, identified, and returned to their owners. No heavy lifting or climbing ladders is required of Guild volunteers. Guild Shop volunteers will assist in the receipt and sale of projects created by our members. White Glove Ladies answer visitors questions and make sure our quilts are handled with care. Gloves are provided for handling quilts. This job allows you and opportunity to have a really good look at all the quilts on display, as well as talking to our visitors! Volunteering at the show is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow Guild members Page 4

5 RAFFLE QUILT TICKETS Lisette Léveillé Reminder Return ticket stubs and money April 24, 2017 There are 3 quilt prizes for the Guild raffle. 1 st Prize: Scrappy Triangles Queen Size (90 x 90) Quilt, valued at $ nd Prize: Walking for a Cause Child s Quilt (50x75) valued at $ rd Prize: 4 Seasonal Table / Bed Runners (12x76 approx.) valued at $365. Additional books of tickets are available during the Fall and Winter months by calling Lisette Léveillé or to rvqgquiltshow@gmail.com. Please return all ticket stubs and money, as well as any unsold tickets to Lisette by April 24th Guild meeting. The draw for the raffle will take place at the Quilt Show on May 7, at approximately 3:30 p.m. PUBLICITY Lisette Léveillé The best way to promote the RVQG Quilt at the Rouge Show is to tell everyone you know. This is especially important given the wide area that our guild membership covers. Be it in person among family and friends, work colleagues or through social network, word of mouth is still the best way to promote our Guild Quilt Show. Should you visit a quilt store, or a community/neighbourhood social group, we need your help to distribute postcards to promote the Quilt at the Rouge Show. Pick up postcards at guild meetings or contact Lisette at or at rvqgquiltshow@gmail.com to pick them up and help us by distributing them. We have lots! Quilt at the Rouge Show Posters will be available at the November to February Meetings. We will need everyone s assistance to place a poster in local quilt stores, and any community bulletin boards, i.e. grocery, church, community centre, etc. Do you have a Facebook account, a blog, or are you on Twitter? Create an event on your Facebook for the Quilt Show and invite your friends to meet for tea or lunch at the Guild Café. Or you might like to link the Quilt Show website on your blog - Again, this is a great opportunity to inform everyone that a good way to welcome Spring is to visit our Rhapsody of Quilts Show. 6 RVQG QUILT CHALLENGE Teresa Parzanese Submission deadline February 27, 2017 A number of fabric kits containing 3 Fat Quarter fabrics have been available since September at $10 each to members, to participate in a quilt challenge. Rules are included in the kit to produce a finished quilt meeting the theme Granny s Garden. Finished quilts will be collected at the February 27 th guild general meeting. Prizes will be awarded. All submitted quilts will be displayed in the Quilt show and winners revealed. Have Fun! Contact Teresa if you have questions or concerns DISPLAY Irene Dewar Lynn McCulloch Assistance will be needed in the assembly and setting up of the quilt frames for the Quilt Show. This will require the help of husbands, or other willing male persons, especially those with previous experience at setting up the quilt frames. Set up for display of the Show will begin at 2:00 on the afternoon of May 5, In addition, we need volunteers to help with the actual hanging of the quilts. At the end of the Quilt Show on the afternoon of May 7, 2017 we will again need the help of husbands to take down of the frames and to carry them to the truck. We also need the help of quilters for the taking down and folding of the quilts. We will be most grateful for your help. SILENT AUCTION Finola Grant A Silent Auction is an auction held without an auctioneer. Items will be displayed for auction. Bidders will write their bids on a bidding sheet left on the table near the items for auction. Each bid sheet will have a fixed starting amount and pre-determined bid increments. The highest bidder pays the price she/he submitted at the close of each auction. There will be four auctions held, two on Saturday and two on Sunday. The first auction of each day will close at 1:00 p.m. and the second one will close at 3:30 p.m. Members are encouraged to bring their donations to each General Meeting starting at the January Guild Meeting right March meeting.
