I was so impressed that so many will have their decorating, shopping, wrapping, baking, etc. all done and can sit and stitch for an afternoon! There are only a few places open. Please call to register. $10 We still have some BCRF cookbooks left. Support a great cause (all net proceeds go to breast cancer research) by buying a copy(s) of the Recipes for a Cure cookbook for a donation of $14.95 (or more) with fabulous time-tested recipes as well as complimentary designs from I m pleased to announce November 2012 the dates for our Merry Cox Workshop weekend. Thursday - Sunday, November 8-11, we look forward to welcoming you to a special 4-day weekend of workshops with Merry Cox, when she will teach Le Nouveau Palais Royal twice, Sweet Little Blossoms, Souvenir Book, and So Dear to Thy Heart (the 2011 Williamsburg piece). No further information is available at this time. Prices and specific days and times will be announced as soon as possible, when we will have the pre-stitching kits availability information as well. Sampler Symposium Celebrating Arizona s Centennial January 13-15, Friday evening through Sunday noon $440 with optional add-on class with Catherine Theron. The top section features a lady in her garden complete with dogs, lilacs, & beeskeps. The center has a colonial home reminiscent of the houses in Williamsburg, VA, alphabet trees, a family, pets, & plenty of birds. The bottom area has a village scene surrounded by the wild woods & various woodland creatures, tamed by a pair of Bible verses.bbfinally, the piece is outlined by a flowing strawberry border. Stitches used include Long Arm Cross, Smyrna Cross, Stem, Diagonal Satin, Padded Satin, Petit Point, Colonial Knot, Spiral Trellis, & more.bba myriad of colorful silks & cotton threads are used to create this vibrant, textural scene. PAGE 3 Workshop Projects ~ Our 2012 Sampler Symposium Celebrating Arizona s Centennial Friday night at 5 Vickie Jennett of NeedleWorkPress will present a exclusive project that she s designed for this event derived from this sampler, which is steeped in Arizona history. Attendees will also receive an autographed copy of the sampler, to be released in late February in Nashville. Next, you will be inspired to plan your 2012 Christmas ornament stitching by Darlene Anderson s slideshow of her incredible sampler ornament collection. And then Paulette Stewart of Plum Street Samplers will present her special workshop project, A Lady s Trimkeep, the perfect project for needleworkers of today, a place to store the wonderful trims available to us. Kit includes the linen, thread, and Crescent Colours trims. Attendees will also receive an autographed copy of Paulette s Brother s Keeper, to be released in Nashville and while you work on your trimkeep she will give you the back story behind the design. Saturday morning Darlene Anderson will begin our day with a PowerPoint presentation of her remarkable Adam & Eve sampler collection ~ this presentation on the breadth and beauty of her sampler collection will have you in awe. Saturday night, 5 ~??, Open House at the shop with refreshments and food! After a morning break, we will get grungy with Tracy Riffle of Hands to Work leading the way while we learn to emulate her primitive finishes of a box and pincushion and small sampler to go with. Sunday, January 15, 9-12 Noon, Catherine Theron s A Stitcher s Envelope This 5 x 4 envelope is stitched on 32-count linen with silk floss in black & shades of pink, blue, gold, & green. A Florentine Stitch pattern & the stitcher s initials grace the envelope flap. The back & front feature a strawberry ribbon pattern, a Quaker-style alphabet, & the stitcher s name. A diminutive needlecase adorned with a Florentine Stitch pattern, a scissors sheath repeating the strawberry ribbon design, & a scissors fob all nestle inside the envelope. Stitches used include Florentine, Petit Point, Smyrna Cross, Backstitch, Cross-Stitch Over One, Stem Stitch, Chain Stitch, & Nun s Stitch. The kit includes all directions, charts, finishing instructions, linen, practice fabric, needles, silk flosses, lining & wool fabrics, & a color copy. Classes will be held at Hyatt Place, Mesa, OR ~ ask for the Attic Needlework group rate (King $109; no Queens available at this time but rooms have pull-out sofa). Room block is only available until mid-december. Continental breakfast included. Symposium Fee includes lunch each day as well as refreshments at breaks and the Saturday night soiree at the shop. Hotel provides free shuttle service to the shop (anywhere within a 5-mile radius) so a rental car is optional. The

5 THE ATTIC! PAGE 5 Paula s FINISHED! Spanish Mystery Sampler Isn t this finished & framed sampler stunning?!! Each month as I ve posted Paula s progress I ve yearned to stitch it, but occasionally I face reality ~ and I am so grateful that Paula wanted to stitch this and lead the 2011 Stitch-Along. Here s Paula s words about this month s finish: December is here and this is the final month of this wonderful SAL I hope any of you who participated have enjoyed stitching this piece as much as I have. This month there is only 1 row left if you are stitching this design exactly per the chart. The row has just the 2 motifs repeating and 2 colours, so again a fairly quick stitch. The reason I say if you are following the design exactly per the chart is that Theresa of Shakespeare s Peddler mentioned that when she purchased the original piece, it was clear that something had been cut off the bottom. She chose to chart it per the original; however, I loved the border at the top and sides so much that I chose to continue this border along the bottom and I m happy with this look, so if you like it also, that would mean you have the last row and a bottom border to stitch. You will see from the image that I have also framed my finished piece. It may be hard to see from the photo, but there is a bit of a copper sheen to the frame which I felt tied in with the border stitching. If you like this frame, I ordered it from Attic Needlework, and they d be happy to provide you with this same frame and even frame it for you! This is the final note on this SAL, and it has been great to offer this information and a photo each month. I enjoyed leading this SAL for Attic Needlework so much, that I will be leading a SAL in 2012 and it is very large, however I ve broken it down and feel it is possible to complete in a year (and still allow for other stitching and stashing!) look for more information in a newsletter soon - Paula Well, since Paula wrote the above, the Ann Dale 1827 Big & Beautiful (not to be confused with the smaller version, A Part of Ann Dale ) came into the shop, and as requested by several, we ve done a conversion to all overdyed silks and are set for a 2011 Stitch-Along. The

PAGE 17 Two from Molly s Needle The Lucky Ticket Holder Above, Molly stitched this Threads Through Time design, Special Night, with a full cross over one on 32c linen ~ and, below, her very beautiful Elizabeth Sheffield from The Scarlet Letter is finished and framed and so exquisite. An inspiration for sure, to get mine finished. Another goal for Ellen purchased the winning ticket for this beautiful Pretty Dresses quilt exquisitely made and donated by Nancy from Massachusetts for our Breast Cancer Benefit. Ellen s new granddaughter is expected in March, and she was delighted to have this quilt for the new nursery. Thank you all for participating in the opportunity tickets, and in the auction. A final total will be published in a subsequent newsletter at the end of this year. Some of you have inquired about the winning bid for a specific item as a measure of what has the most appeal to the bidders. If you have attended the silent auction in person, you know that each year several items are hot and sometimes even create a bidding war and, as a result, a smaller item will outperform a much more intricate donation. Therefore, I would rather that we focus on the total effort than on one item, and I appreciate your understanding.
