MIXED REALITY BENEFITS IN BUSINESS Denise E. White Founder, Digital Nomadic Living Slide 1: Introduction Hi, Good Morning! [pause] I m Denise White. I live a Mixed Reality life, today or as I like to say, a digital nomadic lifestyle. Mixed realities in business are happening right now. We re already blending and merging across time zones and locations; managing different contexts, situations and relationships.
Slide 2: Introduction This was my backdrop working remotely from Morocco on a video call with teams in Europe. We have the tools today: Slack, Skype, , Secure VPNs, Cloud storage, mobile phones, tablets, wi-fi and the ever-present 4G. But its rudimentary. We re still living in a flat screen, 2-D world. All of our interactions are framed by a 4 sided monolith; a laptop screen, a phone, a tablet and so on.
Slide 3: So What is the Next Step in Mixed Reality? There are a lot of terms being exchanged right now. To be clear, there are 4 realities: Real World RW this reality Virtual Reality VR is a closed environment. You re fully immersed in the content, and you cannot see your surroundings. VR headsets: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, which work especially well in gaming, entertainment and live events. Short lived immersive experiences. - (e.g., Oculus Rift, HTC Vive); Augmented Reality AR is an overlay, layered on top of your natural field of view. You can still see your outside surroundings. Pokemon Go is a good example. With AR, you can use your tablet, phone or a device like Microsoft Hololens or the Meta 2. - (e.g., Meta 2, Microsoft HoloLens); Mixed Reality MR - This, is the game changer. In Mixed Reality, you re interacting with virtual, 3D objects that are all around you; its integrated into your real world perspective and its in context. The front-runner in this space for this type of technology is Magic Leap. I think Magic Leap are one of the most exciting companies in the world right now because they are actually taking a neurological approach. The presence you feel is not coming from the device but from your own neurology - (e.g., Magic Leap/photonic lightfield chip);

Slide 7: MR Example 1 - What is Mixed Reality? (Cont d) [after video]: When physical and virtual realities merge; that s mixed reality. Mass adoption of MR over time does have the potential to impact and shape to the landscape of our cities.
Slide 8: Where are we? How Big Will It Get? A recent report from Goldman Sachs predicts that within 10 years, virtual and augmented reality hardware will be an $80 billion dollar industry.
WIIFM? Slide 9: What s In It For Me? Ultimately, MR is a computing platform. - So the possibilities and benefits are endless. I m not worried about the technology. Its coming; fast, like a freight train hurdling toward us. The question is will you and your organisation be ready in 3-5 years? Must accept change is the new constant and you ll need to prepare for even greater shifts in working processes and communication.
