3 Production Techniques Finishes HANDMADE GLASS CABOCHONS, HANDMADE GLASS STONES AND HAND PRESSED BEADS These stones are created entirely by hand from colored glass rods melted by the flame of a blast lamp. The special effects are achieved through the use of a variety of auxiliary materials, such as glass threads, glass chippings and silver and gold foils. The final shape is achieved by hand molding the cabochon with special pressing tongs, making each of these stones a one-of-a-kind piece. FOILING (with stones in transparent colors only) The application of a mirror layer to the bottom of the stone to obtain maximum brilliance. TYPE OF TECHNIQUE: GOLD FOILING A silver mirror is coated with a protective layer of lacquer with a bronze pigment. SILVER FOILING A silver mirror is coated with a protective layer of lacquer with aluminium pigment. ALUMINIUM FOILING The mirror effect is created by an aluminium layer applied by means of a vacuum coating process. MACHINE PRESSED GLASS CABOCHONS These stones are molded from glass rods with special machinery, after which they are refined by a tumbling process. VACUUM COATING The finishing of a selected surface of a glass stone by means of a vacuum coating process, i.e. the application of layers of metals, their oxides, salts or a mixture of these. FROSTING The finishing of the surface of the product by means of a chemical treatment to obtain a matte effect. 4 5
