Oxyplus Investment DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Step By Step Instructions General Information Prior to making the model the expansion liquid is diluted, 1 part concentrate to 3 parts water. The outer mold is mixed with water. More dilution tighter fitting castings. Less dilution looser fitting castings. Storage Conditions Oxyplus Investment: Keep container closed when not in use. Store in a cool dry area. Duplicating Soak master model in water for 30 minutes or 2 minutes under vacuum. Blow off excess from model, place it in duplicating flask that is in 1.5 (3.8 cm) deep cold water and pour duplicating material. Wait about 30 minutes, remove master model and totally immerse the flask with the impression into a water bath at F (43-46 C) for 5-10 minutes. Making a model Mechanical Mix or Hand Mix Powder 200g 200g Water 25ml 25 ml Mix Time 60 seconds under vacuum 90 seconds Fill impression with investment while vibrating. When filled, remove from vibrator and allow to harden 30 minutes. Remove the model from the impression, trim it, and dry it for 45 minutes in a F ( C) oven. Dip the model in a model hardener such as Special Hard Model Dip N Investing Mechanical Mix or Hand Mix Powder 600g 600g Water 70ml (2.37 fl oz) 73 ml (2.47 fl oz) Mix Time 60 seconds under vacuum 90 seconds Affix waxed-up model to ring base, spray debubblizer on wax-up. With ring on vibrator, pour investment into ring until wax-up is covered. Vibrate mix out of ring until there is a bubble-free thin coating covering the wax-up. Vibrate the mix back into the ring until filled. Remove immediately from vibrator. Bench set for 60 minutes. 1
Burnout Place ring at back of oven and crucible in front. Keep oven door open during initial burnout stage. Then set temperature for: From To In Hold Raise To In Hold 70 F 550 F 20 min 30 min 1800 F 60 min 60 min (21 C) (290 C) (982 C) 1800 F 20.8 F/min 70 F 550 F 24 F/min 20 min 30 min 60 min 60 min Auto Analysis Guide Problem Rough or Pitted Surface Cause Liquid investment painton not used Used old or moistured investment Improper spruing Incomplete burnout Overheated mold Dirty and/or old alloy Solution Paint thin coat on all patterns Use new investment Sprue must be thicker than casting Raise temperature/hold time Don t exceed 1900 F (1038 C) Clean sprue former upside down Use casting flux 2
Auto Analysis Guide Cont d Problem Porosity, Shrink Spots Miscast, Short Fins/Flash Cause Improper spruing Not enough new alloy used Overheated ring Alloy overheated Mold not hot enough Gases couldn t escape through top of ring Not enough alloy used Sprue gauge too small Sprue length too long Used too little number of sprues Casting spring under wound Furnace calibration off Alloy not heated enough Too much model dip coating Solution Sprue must be thicker than casting Use minimum of 66% new alloy Lower temperature and/or hold time Check torch tip & gas pressure Place crucible in oven with ring Raise oven temperature/hold time Scrape investment from top of ring Add more alloy Use larger gauge Shorten sprue Use more and/or place better Increase turns Check with temperature pill Raise temperature, pre-heat crucible Use casting flux, change torch/tip Avoid pooling, shorten dip time 3
Auto Analysis Guide Cont d Problem Fins/Flash Cont d Warped Casting Tight fit Loose Fit Cause Pattern Coat used too thick Mold overheated, cracked Burnout too fast Glaze &/or fines on top of ring not removed Investment walls-to-ring too thin Casting arm over wound Vibration in casting arm Mold dropped Used one liquid/powder ratio for model, another ratio for mold Heavy spruing to wrong places Tension caused by sprues Hammered button devesting Plunged hot casting in cold water Used wrong duplicating process Used too much liquid in mix Solution Apply very thin coat Lower temperature/hold time Check bench set time, burnout rate Remove glaze/fines Have more space between model & ring Use less winds Tighten arm, check counter weight Have oven, casting machine closer Keep powder/liquid ratio mix the same Use thinner sprues to thinner areas Relocate & distribute better Devest using instruments Let casting bench cool Follow instructions on duplicating pail Use less liquid 4
NPCAHMIS CODE Health 0* Flammability 0 Reactivity 0 Personal Protection X WARNING Contains respirable crystalline silica (RCS). Do not breathe dust. May cause delayed lung injury (silicosis, pneumoconiosis). The I.A.R.C. (International Agency for Research on Cancer) reports (I.A.R.C. Monograph 68) there is sufficient evidence in humans for the carcinogenicity of inhaled crystalline silica in the forms of quartz or cristobalite from occupational sources. The NTP (National Toxicology Program) reports (Ninth annual report on Carcinogens) that RCS is known to be a carcinogen based on sufficient evidence from studies in humans indicating a causal relationship between exposure to RCS and increased lung cancer rates in workers exposed to crystalline silica dust. Follow OSHA Safety and Heath Standards for crystalline silica. See Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed information. NOTE Prolonged unprotected overexposure may result in nonreversible silicosis. Sufficient evidence shows crystalline silica causes cancer in humans. Non-flammable Non-reactive Use NIOSH/MSHA/ OSHA approved respirator. DUST RESPIRATOR See Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for Detailed Information. *Chronic health hazard. 5
