- 7 Ferrules Ferrules are a convenient device used for termination of stranded wires. Ferrules eliminate the risk of fraying of single strands and consequent accidental contacts and short circuits.

1 - 7 Ferrules Ferrules are a convenient device used for termination of stranded wires. Ferrules eliminate the risk of fraying of single strands and consequent accidental contacts and short circuits. They also protect the wire from damage when using compression screw, spring or split-bolt terminals. Ferrules are highly recommended when frequent removal and reinsertion (i.e: for testing) of the termination from the wire clamp is expected. Ferrules are crimped on the stripped end of the wire, using a specially designed crimping tool. All ITC tools are designed to make the operation effortless, quick and error-proof. ITC also has pneumatic, multiple action and fully automatic stripping/crimping tools and machines. The use of ferrules facilitates wire insertion in a clamp (for example, in a terminal block), especially for smaller gauges ( toawg 0. to mm). Uninsulated ferrules economically replace tinning of the conductor tip. ITC s twin type ferrules allow permanent crimping together of two wires, before insertion in the wire clamp. In some cases, this may represent saving of % of the cost of terminal blocks and meet singlewire specification. ITC ferrules are made of 99.9% electrolitic copper, tin plated. Insulation is either polypropylene or polyamide (nylon), flame retardant and heat resistant. ITC ferrules are RoH compliant. ITC insulated ferrules are CA certified. Ferrules are available for wires from 0.mm (AWG) to mm (~MCM). Most models are actually produced in different insertion lenghts: short (), normal (), long (), extra long (), extra-extra-long (X). ome most common sizes of insulated ferrules are available also with a larger plastic collar, to accommodate wires with extra insulation. Ferrules in strips and spools, described in this brochure, are for use with semi-automatic and automatic crimping tools and machines.
