2 HIGH-PERFORMANCE CUTTER Optimal cutting results with shearing and sawing From raw tube to finished tube, the SMS group supplies everything from specific machinery to complete plant systems for the manufacture of tubes of copper and copper alloys worldwide. SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS The usual cutting processes are: Shearing Sawing The SMS group has developed a high-performance cutter for the production of copper tubes with increased productivity. When using the above processes, the copper tubes are cut on the fly by a travelling carriage. Operators utilising a high-performance cutter integrated into their overall plant quickly see a return on their investment. The high-performance ROTUCUT cuts copper tubes using rotating knives. 4 WORKING PRINCIPLE An investment that quickly pays off During the cutting process, the tube is clamped and a drawing force is applied. When the cutting knives reach a pre-defined cutting depth in the tube, it breaks off due to the applied drawing force. CUTTING QUALITY Operating the rotational tube cutter in the manner described leads to a straight and chip-free cut. PROFITABILITY Given the functional principle and operation of the rotational tube cutter, the investment in the equipment pays back very quickly. The graph on page 5 shows the savings over years for different tube diameters and lengths. This projection is based on standard operating condition of a copper tube mill. OPERATION The rotational tube cutter is operated from the central control panel of the copper tube drawing machine. The tube length is pre-selected. All other necessary parameters are stored in the machine control system. An additional control panel is installed directly on the cutter. MAINTENANCE The rotational tube cutter requires only minimum maintenance due to its mechanical design concept. Changing of knives and clamping jaws is quick and easy. 6 TECHNICAL DATA Flexible application MODELS The ROTUCUT rotational tube cutter is recoended for copper tube plants with a maximum throughput speed of 150 m/min. The aforementioned conditions are based on a minimum tube length of 3 m. Therefore, the cutter may also operate at a speed of 200 m/min from a tube length of 4 m. 6
