2 Welcome Dear all, I am delighted to welcome you to Merck Consumer Health s first Global Consumer Health Debate Addressing the Diverse Health and Well-Being Challenges of Women Around the World. The basis for today s event is the Economist Intelligence Unit s (EIU) report, sponsored by Merck Consumer Health, on Women s Health and Well-Being: Evolving Definitions and Practices. I am certain that the findings of this research which focused on India, Mexico, Brazil, France and Germany will be of great interest to many countries beyond these five. We at Merck Consumer Health are passionate about driving conversations on the topics that matter to our industry. Women s health and well-being naturally came as the first theme to champion. Why? Because we clearly observe that women everywhere are taking significant steps to advance their lives. Securing health and well-being is at the heart of this. Furthermore, we see them aiming to optimize their health, especially as they enjoy longer lives, often up to 100 years. Interestingly, women across the world are also the caretakers of the health and wellbeing of their own families; and they educate their family members on that topic. Women also represent the majority of professionals in health care occupations, so beyond families, they also have the broadest impact on improving health and well-being in our societies. There are however significant barriers to accessing health and well-being services. These can have far-reaching consequences for women, such as impact on productivity and quality of life. Addressing these challenges ahead requires an integrated approach, and the involvement of the many active and expert stakeholders on the subject matter. We are tremendously grateful to have in attendance today key experts from many sectors, including public health, NGOs, economy, and academia. With the help of the media in the audience, I hope the dialogue on this very important subject continues well beyond today s event. I trust that you will enjoy the discussions. Thank you very much! 7 Second keynote and Q&A First keynote Katja Iversen CEO Women Deliver, USA Katja Iversen is the CEO of Women Deliver a leading global advocate for investment in the health, rights and well-being of girls and women, with a specific focus on maternal, sexual and reproductive health and rights. Iversen, an internationally recognized expert on development, advocacy and communications, has more than 20 years of experience working in NGOs, corporates and United Nation agencies. Previously, she held the position of Chief of Strategic Communication and Public Advocacy with UNICEF, a position she came to after almost six years leading the team responsible for advocacy and communication on reproductive health and MDG 5 at UNFPA. She holds a master s degree in communications, a bachelor s degree in public administration and certificates in management, conflict resolution and international development. Iversen has worked in global health for more than a decade and has an extensive network within the UN, development communities and global media. She has counseled and trained multiple Fortune 500 executives on cross-cultural management and cross-cultural communication. She is a health adviser to the Clinton Global Initiative and on the CSO consultative group to the World Bank. 7

8 second keynote Aviva Freudmann Director EIU, Germany Aviva is Research Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa in the Thought Leadership division of the Economist Intelligence Unit, and directed the study Women s health and well-being: Evolving definitions and practices. Freudmann has 40 years of experience as a journalist, researcher and editor covering a variety of industries, including transport, logistics, energy and the environment in addition to healthcare. She was previously Editorial Director, Canada Bureau Chief and European Editor of the Journal of Commerce, a US newspaper, and Managing Editor of CFO Europe, a magazine for Chief Financial Officers. Aviva holds a Masters degree in International Economics and Middle East Studies from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and a bachelor s degree in Political Science from Brown University. 8

9 Panel discussion Sanghita Bhattacharyya Public Health Foundation, India Dr. Sanghita Bhattacharyya is a senior public health specialist with the Public Health Foundation of India. She has a decade of experience in maternal and child health, gender based violence. Her expertise includes conducting operation and evaluation research. At present she is engaged in number of research projects in maternal and child health in different states of India. She has considerable field exposure and has worked closely with civil society organizations and various state governments. Her area of interest in research covers Quality of Care, Child Nutrition and Community participation. She holds a PhD. in demography. 9

10 Panel discussion Hilke Brockmann Jacobs University Bremen, Germany Dr. Hilke Brockmann is a sociologist and demographer by training and a professor of sociology at Jacobs University, a private German university. Her research focus on the causes and consequences of population aging and of subjective well-being (SWB), often equated with happiness. Currently, Dr. Brockmann is working on the changes in happiness over the life course, particularly on the happiness of children and parents, of women in leadership positions, and at the end of life. 10

11 Panel discussion Belén Garijo Member of the Merck Executive Board, Germany Belén Garijo, is a Member of the Executive Board of Merck since January She is responsible for the Healthcare business sector, comprising the businesses of Biopharma, Consumer Health, Allergopharma and Biosimilars. Since 2013 she has also acted as President and CEO of Biopharma, where she started in 2011 as Chief Operating Officer. Before joining Merck, Belén Garijo was employed by Sanofi-Aventis as Senior Vice President Global Operations Europe, serving as a member of the Management Committee of the Sanofi-Aventis Group and of the Management Board of the Sanofi-Pasteur vaccines joint venture with MSD. In 2011, she took on the additional role of Global Integration Leader for the Genzyme acquisition. From 2003 to 2006, Belén Garijo was General Manager of Aventis Spain, subsequently leading the merger with Sanofi-Aventis in From 2000 to 2003 she served as Global Vice President Oncology at Aventis and from 1996 as Director of the Oncology Business Unit in the predecessor company Rhône- Poulenc Rorer. Prior to this she worked in R&D for eight years, initially as the Medical Director of the Abbott Laboratories Spanish affiliate, before moving to lead International Medical Affairs at the Abbott headquarters in Illinois, USA. Belén Garijo is a medical doctor, specialized in clinical pharmacology. She worked as a practicing physician for six years, before moving to the pharmaceutical industry. 11

12 Panel discussion Uta Kemmerich-Keil President & CEO Merck Consumer Health, Germany Uta Kemmerich-Keil has been CEO and President of Merck s Consumer Health division since May Mrs. Kemmerich-Keil joined Merck in 1999 as Mergers & Acquisitions Controller. She was Head of Global Controlling for the Pharmaceuticals business sector with responsibility for worldwide financial reporting of three divisions from 2001 to 2005; thereafter she was appointed head of Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions. During her tenure in this role she led key transactions including the acquisition of Serono and subsequent integration of Merck Serono beginning in 2006, the divestment of Merck Generics in 2007 and the acquisition of Millipore in From 2007 until 2012 she took over Corporate Finance,Treasury and Investor Relations in addition to her responsibilities in M&A. At the end of 2012 she moved into the operational business and became CEO and President of Allergopharma and Head of the Global Allergy business of Merck, redirecting the business and initiating a major change program. Prior to joining Merck, Kemmerich-Keil was Senior Financial Auditor in corporate internal auditing with Hoechst AG, Frankfurt, Germany from 1996 to She holds a master s degree in economics and a master s degree in French literature. 12

13 Panel discussion Angela Spatharou McKinsey, Mexico Dr. Angela Spatharou leads McKinsey s healthcare services, consumer health and analytics work across Mexico/Latin America, supporting public and private hospitals, pharmaceutical firms and state authorities. She has extensive experience in market strategy and access issues for the consumer health and well-being market in Latin America. She also recently led a comprehensive review of Maternal and Perinatal services in Mexico, identifying levers to reduce maternal mortality and support Mexico in achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG5). Outside LATAM, she is a core leader of McKinsey s North American Healthcare practice, advising health payors and providers on strategic and operational issues, with focus on innovation and patient engagement. She has also led work with health systems in the UK, France, Spain, Greece and Australia on chronic disease. Dr. Spatharou is a published author and speaker on health system reform, noncommunicable diseases and obesity prevention. She holds a PhD and a MPhil from the University of Cambridge and a bachelor s degree in Law from the University of Athens. She currently serves as a Governor of the London School of Economics and member of the LSE Strategic Advisory Board, and has supported and chaired Boards in the non-profit sector on early-years education and promoting women in STEM. 13

14 Panel discussion Alexandra Wyke CEO Patient View, UK Alexandra Wyke is CEO and founder of PatientView, a UK-based research, publishing and consultancy group. PatientView has worked to build bridges worldwide with the health NGOs that comprise the patient movement, to help define and support one of the most important phenomenon changing healthcare initiatives in the 21st Century. Today PatientView has the capacity to reach out to 120,000 such groups (covering over 1,000 specialties, and from most countries in the world). The patient movement grows continually in numbers and scale of influence. 15 Moderator Vivienne Parry Science writer and broadcaster A scientist by training, Vivienne Parry is a British writer and broadcaster who specialises in health and medicine. Best known in the UK for her many programs for BBC television and radio, she also undertakes a great deal of hosting and facilitation for science and health bodies, including NHS England and the MHRA, for industry, for government, including facilitation of the G8 Summit on Dementia, and for the European Commission. She contributes features to a wide range of papers and magazines including The Times. She has a longstanding interest in women s health and has written a number of books on women s health problems including The Truth about Hormones, which was shortlisted for the Aventis Science Prize. 15
