1 VOLUME 10 WALKER COUNTY NEWS Lifetime Achievement Captain Larry McDugle Walker County Sheriff s Office Walker County Sheriff s Captain Larry McDugle s career spans over 38 years and can be looked at as a benchmark for officers desiring the ultimate career success. His work in law enforcement began as a Reserve Deputy with the Harris County Sheriff s Office. He served the University of Texas Police Department in his first full time law enforcement job and later moved to Huntsville where he began working as a Patrol Officer. During his service at Huntsville he was responsible for numerous investigations and arrests in high profile cases. He then was sought out and took the Chief s job at Panorama Village in Montgomery County. Later, he moved back to Huntsville and rejoined the Huntsville Police Department where he served until he retired in After a short retirement, the Walker County Sheriff s Office recruited him to become a Lieutenant, serving over Administration and Operations. He worked diligently to develop and implement written policies and procedures in further professionalizing the Sheriff s Office. He is credited with developing and establishing a computer network system for the agency which is considered state of the art. The Walker County Public Safety Communications/911 Center again showed that Lt. McDugle was a leading figure in the creation and development of this needed county-wide system. Captain McDugle was promoted to his current rank in 2005 where he supervises the Uniformed Services Division, the Investigation Service Division which includes Narcotics Enforcement, and support staff. Additionally, he administers a county-wide computer system, is the agency s primary grant officer and has successfully implemented the transition of all first responders to the Harris County Regional Radio System. Captain McDugle has worn many hats during his 38-year career in Law Enforcement and he is regarded by many, in the profession, as one of the truly outstanding law enforcement officers. The 56th, 100 Club, Heroes Awards Program was held Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Ballroom of the Hilton Houston Post Oak Hotel. Captain Larry McDugle, Walker County Sheriff s Office was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

4 WALKER COUNTY NEWS Page 4 CENSUS MARCH TO THE MAILBOX Walker County, the City of Huntsville, the Chamber of Commerce and the Census 2010 hosted an extravaganza on April 10th at the Eastham-Thomason Park. The purpose was to raise awareness about filling out and returning the Census Surveys. There was a great turnout of participants as well as the public to enjoy the festivities and giveaways. Census personnel were on hand to give out census surveys for those that had not received them yet as well as free t-shirts, hats and fans. Walker County had a booth and was giving away balloons and gun locks as well as literature about your county government. A special thank you goes out to Danny and Cindy Pierce for donating the balloons and helium and for assisting at the county s booth. Also thank you to the county employees who attended and assisted; Butch Davis, Linda McKenzie, Sherri Pegoda and Ashlyn Roberts. We found out it takes at least five county employees to fill balloons. We had a great time. The Citizens Emergency Response Team also manned a booth and handed out information about what CERT is and does; there were several people interested in the program and took applications. CERT members in attendance were Joe Connell, CERT Director, Tom Martin, Jim Hurley, Steve Kelly, Paula Blackwill, Joe Whitehead, Sherri Pegoda and Shelbi Quick. Thank you to Paula for bringing the fabulous cake, we enjoyed it immensely!

Please join us in congratulating Shelia on this significant honor. March 25th was a perfect evening for a parade as the thirtieth annual Walker County Fair and Rodeo got into high gear. The theme this year was Blue Jeans and Country Dreams. There were many Walker County officials that participated in the parade including Danny Pierce, B.J. Gaines, Jr., Bobby Warren, Tim Paulsel, Clint McRae and Diana McRae.
