4 HERITAGE BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN MINUTES PBK BANK, DANVILLE, KENTUCKY March 27, 2017 Call to Order A meeting of the Heritage Business and Professional Women was held Monday, March 27, 2017, at 5:30 at PBK Bank with President Mimi Becker presiding. Anne Sleet gave the blessing before the delicious meal provided by Wilma Glasscock, Patsy McAfee, and Anne Sleet. The pledge to the United States flag was recited as well as the BPW Collect. Minutes and Treasurer s Report A motion to approve the minutes of the February meeting was made by Wilma Glasscock and seconded by Rhonda Marshbanks. Motion carried. Treasurer Vickie Lay reported a balance of $ in the checking account and $1, in the savings account as of February 28, Report will be filed for audit. Correspondence Anne Sleet presented a thank you from the Salvation Army for our participation in the bell ringing for the kettles in December. Old Business President Becker reported on the Women in Business networking hour at Bluegrass Pizza Pub co-sponsored by the Danville-Boyle County Chamber and our group on February21. Approximately 20 women attended. There was a general consensus that they would like to do this on a quarterly basis. President Becker also updated our group on the mentoring project with Danville 5 th grade girls. They have completed one quilt pattern and started another. They hope to complete four before the end of school. Meeting dates have had to be changed because of testing, school breaks, etc. but will still be twice a month. The July outing for Pioneer Playhouse has been confirmed for July 13 to see Guarded, a play adapted from the book by the same name written by local writer Angela Correll. She will also be our speaker for the evening. Other BPW clubs are being invited to join us. Dinner is at 7:30 and the play begins at 8:30. Price for both is $30 before our group discount. New Business Scholarships Motion was made by Dawn Hastings and seconded by Ann Upchurch to provide a scholarship in the amount of $300 each to a student in Danville, Boyle County, and Lincoln County schools. Motion carried. Retiring State President Gift Motion was made by Ann Upchurch and seconded by Peggy Orberson to contribute $10 toward the retiring state president s gift. Motion carried. Equal Pay Day Discussion was held on the activities for Equal Pay Day which is officially designated as April 4. Member Dawn Hastings will offer a 4440 discount at her salon (40% discount on products on the 4 th ), as well as hand out Payday candy bars. It was decided to hold an Unhappy Hour at Kentucky Depot Restaurant again. Wilma will call owner Gladys Reed to make sure we can reserve a room for our regular meeting on April 17, and inquire about a discount for our meals again in honor of working women. Mimi will invite newly appointed Boyle County Attorney Lynn Coleman to be our guest speaker. Proclamations declaring April 4 Equal Pay Day will be prepared for city and county officials for Garrard, Lincoln, and Boyle counties. 5 Nominating Committee A nominating committee was appointed to present officer candidates for at the April meeting. They are: Wilma Glasscock, Chair; Regena Carney; and Martha Martin. Announcements North Central Region meeting is April 22 in Berea. Secretary Brenda Baker has ed registration form to all members.
