1 British Columbia & Yukon Board of Directors, Joel Finlay, Chair Joel has 35 years of distinguished experience in the public sector in Canada and overseas. He currently serves on the Canadian Cancer Society s executive committee as well as the Cancer Prevention Centre committee. Prior to his recent retirement, Joel was director of Advisory Services at KPMG LLP. Joel joined KPMG in 1999 following a successful career in public service, which included senior management positions with Health Canada and the Government of Canada s International Development Research Centre. At Health Canada, his responsibilities included developing the Health Protection Policy Framework and Canada s national AIDS strategy, devising the implementation plan for the modernized Medical Devices Regulatory Program (Food and Drug Act) and managing the federal AIDS/HIV program. Joel graduated from Harvard University with a master s in Public Health. In addition to his involvement with the Canadian Cancer Society, he is on the boards of Rowing Canada and Olympians Canada, the alumni association of Canadian Olympic athletes. Andrew Hazlewood Andrew retired in 2011 following a long and prolific career in public health, having served in the provincial governments of British Columbia and Saskatchewan for nearly four decades. For 12 years, Andrew was assistant deputy minister of Population and Public Health at the BC Ministry of Health. During that time, he directed the development of health-care policies that would help BC s population live longer, healthier lives, and was responsible for more than $400 million in annual expenditures across the province. Andrew continues to be a clinical associate professor at the University of British Columbia in the Faculty of Health Care and Epidemiology, where he has been teaching since Andrew was board chair of the Society s British Columbia/Yukon Division from 2013 to He has an ongoing interest in the proposed Cancer Prevention Centre.

2 Gayle Grout Gayle manages a health business consulting team at TELUS Health, collaborating with provincial and national organizations on strategic and tactical levels to meet shared objectives while leading a team that translates clinical guidelines into electronic medical record tools to drive improved patient outcomes. Gayle has a keen interest in the use of technology to strengthen physician decision support and patient self-management strategies to improve patient care. Her technology-focused background spans across multiple industries. During her years with Deloitte Consulting, she shaped enterprise content management strategies and implementations for clients in the high-tech, public, oil and gas, and mining industries. She has incorporated her learnings from these industries into new innovations, finding inspiration in delivering new products based upon widely accepted concepts. When not in the office, Gayle can be found spending time with her husband Chris and their two girls in Kelowna. Shamim Jivani Shamim has worked for the federal government for the last 25 years. Currently, she is a client advisor at the Translation Bureau with Public Works Government Services Canada. She is fluent in English, French and speaks some Spanish. Shamim first got involved with the Society in 2001, when a cancer support group dedicated to serving Ismaili women was created as part of a collaborative initiative between the Ismaili Council for BC s Women Development and the Canadian Cancer Society. At that time, Shamim served as the regional peer support chair for the Greater Vancouver region. Based on the success of the Vancouver support group, Shamin proposed starting similar groups in Karachi, Pakistan. She spent eight weeks there and trained 50 women to start their own cancer support groups. Shamim is heavily involved with the Society s Relay for Life event in Coquitlam. She has been co-captain of one of the event s top fundraising teams since 2002 and, for the last three years, was the top individual fundraiser.

3 Stephen Ng Stephen is a director with TELUS Health, driving the development, build and implementation of consumer health products and services to turn health information into better health outcomes. Prior to this role, he was a management consultant at Deloitte in Toronto, specializing in the provision of business advisory services to public sector clients. Stephen has an MBA (with distinction), specializing in Strategy and Organizational Behaviour, from the Schulich School of Business at York University in Toronto. He also holds a bachelor s and master s of Science from the University of British Columbia. Besides volunteering with the Canadian Cancer Society, Stephen spends his time with the JOIN Mentoring Program (to help people with disabilities re-enter the workforce), Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers of Vancouver and the Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair. Outside of his professional and charitable pursuits, Stephen rock-climbs, road-bikes, runs, snowboards and fiddles with guitars. David MacKenzie David is the owner and general manager of Pemberton Valley Lodge. He has more than 20 years of experience in the tourism industry, having opened four hotel properties in western Canada and operated his own adventure travel business in British Columbia and Alberta for 10 years. David was a founding director of the Alberta Tourism Partnership and served on various boards and committees throughout Alberta. David was elected to the council for the Village of Pemberton in 2005, serving a three-year term including as acting mayor. He has also served as director of the BC Chamber of Commerce; chair of Vancouver Coast & Mountains Tourism Region; founder and chair of Tourism Pemberton; and president of the Pemberton Regional Airport Authority. Currently he is the president and chair of the BC Hotel Association, a director of the Tourism Industry Association of BC and the immediate past chair of the Vancouver, Coast and Mountains tourism region. True to his passion for the outdoors, David is a competitive masters swimmer, mountain biker, backpacker and triathlete.

4 Param Chauhan Param is a project manager at Central 1 Credit Union, where he is involved in technology projects that serve credit unions across Canada. Prior to working at Central 1, Param spent most of his career in the public and non-profit sectors, including in sport, health and literacy. Param holds a bachelor s in Human Kinetics and a master of arts, both from the University of British Columbia. Alvin Wasserman Alvin has an extensive history in marketing, advertising and communications both in Vancouver and Montreal. He spent three years as CEO of Wasserman, Cozens, Dundon Inc., a creative-only advertising and communications firm in Vancouver. He was partner and creative director at Wasserman and Partners, BC s largest independent full-service advertising agency, for 20 years. In addition, he spent 13 years at McKim Advertising in Vancouver and two years at Gray Advertising in Montreal. Throughout his career, Alvin has worked on all major account types including retail, travel, entertainment and public sector. He is the recipient of dozens of advertising awards, including winner of Marketer of the Year in 2007 and 2014 for his work with two corporate clients. Alvin has completed two full terms on the Society s BC/Yukon Division Board of Directors, including serving as past board chair. He is active on the governance and executive committees and is a liaison with senior staff on fundraising, marketing and branding. Alvin is also involved with the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver and the Jewish Federation.

5 Shona McGlashan Shona McGlashan is the chief governance officer at Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) and has over 15 years experience in senior governance and policy roles on both sides of the Atlantic. A member of MEC s senior management team, she is responsible for providing effective support to its board of directors based on robust governance practices; runs MEC s annual elections; and oversees MEC s co-operative engagement, corporate reporting and issues management. Shona was previously the executive director for the Vancouver Police Board. Before immigrating to Canada, she served as a clerk in the UK Parliament, providing professional and procedural support for investigative committees of MPs, the Speaker and the House of Commons Commission. Shona is a member of Governance Professionals of Canada and the Institute of Corporate Directors, and holds a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from Manchester University. She lives in Vancouver with her husband and two elementary school-aged children. Scott Marks Scott services large-scale social infrastructure and power projects in British Columbia. Prior to this, he worked in corporate finance at Intrawest Corporation and in assurance at Ernst & Young LLP. Scott has a bachelor of arts (Hons) from Queen s University and a Chartered Accountant designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia; he also holds the Stanford Strategic Decision and Risk Management professional certificate from Stanford University s Stanford Centre for Professional Development. In 1999, Scott was diagnosed with cancer and, thanks to treatment and follow-up, has not had any recurrences. More recently, his father was also diagnosed with cancer and, unfortunately, lost his battle with lymphoma. Scott is inspired to volunteer with the Society to contribute to the fight against cancer and help others affected by the disease.

6 Kim Lucas Kim currently works at STEMCELL Technologies, Canada s largest life sciences company, as the director of Sales, Americas. She has over a decade of experience in organizational planning, process design and strategy development, specifically for rapid-growth companies. She enjoys working with cross-functional teams to align people around a vision and to drive strategic and organizational initiatives. In 2016, she was listed in Business in Vancouver s Top 40 Under 40 list. Kim volunteers with multiple organizations around Vancouver including the University of British Columbia, the Vancouver School Board, Student Biotechnology Network and various sports organizations. On the weekends, Kim can be found hiking, biking or skiing on the local mountains with her family. Valerie D. Gauvin Valerie is a partner and manager in a small construction company in northwest BC. She is also a business consultant, offering services such as strategic and financial planning to small- to medium-sized businesses in their start-up and expansion phases. Prior to this role, she worked as the COO of a commercial construction and property management company and held various management positions with the Credit Unions of BC. Val has an MBA from the University of Liverpool specializing in financial management. She currently volunteers as president of the Terrace and District Chamber of Commerce and director of Terrace Business Resource Centre. Lynn Raineault Lynn is a freelancer and award-winning journalist with more than 30 years experience in television news, current affairs and documentary production. She has worked for the CBC across Canada in executive producer and broadcast executive capacities; for MSNBC in New York as senior producer; and for CTV Vancouver as news director. Her most recent freelance work has been for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. Lynn holds undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Canadian History and a master s in Communication Studies. She is active on other boards in her community and shares her mountain-top home with her husband and two cats who think they own the place.
