The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is the professional association of individuals responsible for generating philanthropic support for a wide variety of nonprofit, charitable organizations. Founded in 1960, AFP (formerly the National Society of Fund Raising Executives) advances philanthropy through its nearly 30,000 members in more than 200 chapters throughout the world. 3 Silver Sponsors Our 2016 Distinguished Volunteers Shirley Erdmanis Homewood of Frederick Faithful Servant Shirley was born in Hagerstown, and graduated from the last class of the old Hagerstown High School in Shirley Erdmanis has been very active with volunteer positions at Homewood at Frederick. She has been president of the Residents Association, and also active with fundraising. She currently is serving on Homewood s board of directors. It seems that there isn t an event at Homewood that doesn t involve Shirley. She has been an active member in the community, and also finds time to volunteer with her high school class, in organizing the 60th year class reunion! Robert Dickman Our Lady of Good Counsel High School Bob Dickman was elected to Good Councel s Board in He served on the Campaign Committee to raise funds to move the school from Wheaton to Olney and was also on the Campaign Cabinet for the $10M Performing Arts Center. He chaired the Advancement Committee from 2010 to 2016 and voluntarily solicited additional prospects to help reach our fundraising goals. An inspiring leader, Bob gives tirelessly of his time and treasure to support our students and school.
4 Betsy Gage St. John Regional Catholic School Enthusiastically Creative Betsy has been involved in every aspect of volunteering and fundraising at SJRCS over the last decade. She served on the Home School Association for many years. She has been involved in some way in just about every activity that we have had at our school. Year after year, she even opened up her home to host beautiful fundraising parties inviting all 420 SJRCS families. Everyone loves to work with Betsy due to her enthusiasm, positive energy, creativity, and her vast knowledge. She has donated countless hours building community, to make our school a better place. Betsy has touched and made a difference in the lives of our students, teachers, administration, and other parents. She personally donates generously to the school and has helped raise tens of thousands of dollars throughout the years! She truly is a blessing to SJRCS; we are proud to call Betsy Gage a member of our SJRCS community. This event would not have been possible without the support of our generous sponsors. Gold Sponsors Rick Miles Homewood at Williamsport Reliable Rick Miles is from Glen Burnie, Maryland, currently living in Falling Waters, West Virginia. He is employed by CSX Railroad for 37 years. Rick has volunteered with Pets on Wheels and local churches. He has volunteered for 14 years at Homewood at Williamsport. He is here at least once or twice a week to assist with varies activities. He also helps with big events including the Annual Strawberry Festival. Rick always is there to help with fundraising events, and also to volunteer his time to improve the quality of lives of Homewood s residents. She has helped in every aspect of the event from securing venue, invitation list, entertainment, decorations and funding. The funds raised directly benefit the animals we save. Kim is hardworking, energetic and is a motivator. David Castor Discovery Station at Hagerstown Passionate David Castor is the lead docent in our LEGO Robotics Exhibit and helps our visitors learn to construct, program and operate the robots there. His other areas of volunteer work include being a docent in other exhibits, and the research and development of programs at Discovery Station. There is never a day that Dave's volunteer work doesn't inspire visitors or his peers.
6 Michael Koch CAB Cause and Effect Michael contributed most recently to the Franklin County Library System and Campaign for Coyle. Thanks to Michael s effective assistance in all fundraising activities, databases were created, events executed and hundreds of thousands of dollars were raised. His volunteerism benefited all patrons and supporters of the historic Coyle Free Library as well as event attendees benefited from him as a volunteer. Michael volunteers without hesitation, is always willing to do whatever is needed for the organization and completes all tasks efficiently, accurately, and timely. David E. Nicewarner Habitat for Humanity Frederick Forward Thinking David Nicewarner is a board member serving with Habitat's future in mind. He recently aided implementation of an employee retirement plan to ensure their stability. David is also working to increase Habitat's endowment and planned gifts to strengthen Habitat's future financial base so we can continue to partner with families in need of a decent and affordable place to live. Robert B. Rankin Meritus Healthcare Foundation is the word that best describes Bob. He has given generously of his time, talent and treasure to Meritus Healthcare Foundation as Chairman of Meritus Medical Center s Capital Campaign and Meritus Healthcare Foundation Board. His leadership and persistence have raised millions of dollars for healthcare facilities and patient care programs that have benefited thousands of Washington County area residents. Mike Mitchell C&O Canal Trust Passionate Mike Mitchell is an energetic, committed, inspiring, and generous volunteer. As the chairman of the C&O Canal Trust's Board, he leads by example and applies himself wholeheartedly to raising funds for the Trust. He is an unrelenting advocate for our mission, attracting support in a variety of venues. We are grateful for his leadership, dedication, and generosity! Jeff Link and Jody Sevy Mount St. Mary's University Jeff Link and Jody Sevy are two dedicated alumni that helped coordinate an entire Men's soccer alumni effort people to be engaged in giving back to the Mount to help bring back the Men's Division 1 Soccer Program. With their efforts, they have created a cultivation and stewardship program for these alumni, culminating in the results of the Men's Division 1 Soccer Program being reinstated wit their first season beginning Fall of 2018.
7 Cynthia Perini Hospice of Washington County Committed Committed. Cynthia Perini has served on the Board of Directors for Hospice for a number of years. She is also the past chair of the Board of Directors. She currently serves as a member of the Development Committee. Cynthia assists in raising funds for Hospice, and she continues to be a vital part in the development activities for Doey s House. John L. Schnebly Washington County Museum of Fine Arts John has been a Museum Trustee for seven years. He has served as Chairman for the Marketing, Development, Human Resources Committees, Vice-President and Trustee President. John has helped secure financial support for annual operating budgets, capital improvement projects and the Museum s Planned Giving/Legacy Society. With John s leadership and commitment, the Museum now has a five year Capital Improvement Plan, with relationships involving private and public donors. John helped secure Capital funding for the refurbishment of the Kerstein Gallery, the reroofing of the 1994 Museum, and North Entry Way Plaza. In his four years as Development Chair and Trustee President, the Museum s Endowment has grown 17.1% including announced gifts to permanently endow the Curator and Education Staff positions. Dr. Arnold "Skip" Amass Carroll Community College Foundation Passionate Dr. Arnold Skip Amass has served on the Carroll Community College Foundation Board for over 20 years. Skip epitomizes the saying that actions speak louder than words with a passion second to none. Dr. Amass has served in numerous critical roles including Board President as well as numerous fundraising committees. He gives every bit of his time, talent, and treasure to set an example for others. For his unwavering commitment, we honor Dr. Arnold Skip Amass. Yvonne Reinsch Hood College Compassionate Compassionate the most accurate word to describe Yvonne Reinsch. A member of the Hood College Board of Associates, Yvonne has assumed the leadership for the Scholars Committee. In this role, she assists with fundraising for student scholars who exhibit strong leadership and motivational skills. As an active member of the Frederick community, Yvonne opened her home to Hood s new president welcoming dozens of women to meet her. Yvonne serves as Board chair for the Historical Society of Frederick and has served on the board of the Weinberg Center. She is involved with Mission of Mercy, the Women s Giving Circle and is a member of the Good Samaritan at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She is an extraordinary leader and volunteer. Mary Ellis United Way of Frederick Selfless Selfless. Mary serves on our board and is our most dedicated volunteer, as she truly cares improving our community. Mary has helped United Way write grants and find sources of funding. In addition to her fundraising efforts, Mary has been a volunteer income tax preparer and helped bring back over $200,000 in returns to our community. She is always willing to help others in any way she can.
8 Susan Wood Barbara Ingram School for the Arts Foundation Susan Wood is dedicated. Since she joined the Foundation in 2013, Susan has been active in our Sponosorship Program, Black Box Chair Campagin and currently holds the position of vice president. Often you will find her in the office volunteering her time or calling on a potential donor. Susan is a leader that inspires the Board. She has a personal passion for the arts. We are greatful that we can always count on her. Marla Fazzalore Boys & Girls Club of Frederick Enthusiastic Marla has been a volunteer with Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County since June Her responsibilities have included assisting the staff with running programs, helping the children with homework, and many other tasks assigned as needed. All of the children respect and view Marla as a mentor, and the walls of her home office are covered with drawings from the countless children she has had an impact on. A medical condition prohibits her from driving, and it does make it difficult to get to and from the Club, but Marla has drive, commitment, and passion for the Club Members and she just keeps coming back time and time again! She has held other volunteer positions at Mission of Mercy and Special Olympics, but for now Boys & Girls Club is her home away from home. Marla is a Frederick County resident and she has three cats: Petey, Oscar and Tut. Steve and Jo Carroll Lutheran Village Thespians Steve and Jo Malin are extremely gifted artists. They also give of themselves unselfishly, directing the theatrical productions performed by residents of Carroll Lutheran Village. From set, costume, and lighting design to casting and stage direction - they guide, encourage, and unify a troupe of resident actors who perform for the enjoyment of all. Donations given by theatre attendees average $2000/perfomance and benefit fellow residents in need. Karlys Kline Community Foundation of Frederick Inspiring As founder of the Women's Giving Circle of Frederick County in 2006, Karlys Kline has been the driving force behind the organization providing $1+ million in grants to support programs ans services that promote self-sufficiency for women and their children, through the generosity of its 220+ members. Karlys's dedication to this mission is inspiring. Her belief? Change the world, one woman at a time.
