Her cases involve international cartels, price fixing, market allocation, bid rigging, tying arrangements, bundling, monopolization, attempted monopolization, Robinson-Patman Act claims, and antitrust conspiracies. In addition, she regularly advises clients on antitrust issues, compliance and distribution relationships. She is a frequent author and speaker on numerous antitrust, government investigations, compliance, and life sciences topics. She has designed and implemented numerous national and international compliance programs. Notably, as part of the McGuireWoods team, Amy helped secure a May 2010 victory on behalf of Jo Tankers before the U.S. Supreme Court in Stolt-Nielsen v. Animalfeeds Int'l, 130 S. Ct (2010), which held that the respondents could not be compelled under the Federal Arbitration Act to engage in class arbitration where the arbitration agreement was silent on the issue of class arbitration. Amy's practice also focuses on complex commercial litigation, including class actions, breach of contract actions, commodities litigation, multi district litigation, healthcare litigation, civil RICO litigation, real estate disputes, and intellectual property disputes. She has first chaired arbitrations, trials and appeals, and recently argued an appeal before the 11th Circuit. Her arbitration practice includes international, domestic, and class action arbitrations before various tribunals. Awards and Recognition Amy was named one of Chicago s Most Influential Women Lawyers, Crain s Chicago Business, She was one of six finalists shortlisted as Best in Antitrust/ Competition for Euromoney Legal Media Group s sixth annual Americas Women in Business Law Awards. In February 2017, Amy was nominated for a Coalition of Women s Initiatives in Law and Best Lawyers Women of Influence Award. In September 2016, The National Law Journal named her a "Mergers & Acquisitions and Antitrust Trailblazer." She was awarded the Top Women Lawyers In Leadership Award by the Women's Bar Association of Illinois in October of She was a Faculty Speaker on two panels for the 2018 and 2016 ABA International Cartel Workshop, a Faculty Speaker at the 2017, 2016 and 2015 ABA Antitrust Section Spring Meeting, and was on the Steering Committee and a speaker at the 2014 ABA International Cartel Workshop. She also spoke at the Clayton Act 100th Anniversary Symposium. She was named to The International Who's Who of Competition Lawyers & Economists 2015 and 2014, Global Competition Review. 2 Making an Impact. She was named in the January 2015 Global Competition Review article on the Illinois competition bar where Amy and her team received a rating of Highly Recommended. Amy also was featured in their May 2009 Global Competition Review issue on Women In Antitrust. She was featured in the 2011 Super Lawyer magazine, and was one of six attorneys profiled as "The Next Generation of Leaders" in the Chicago Lawyer June 2009 issue and again in the "Four Years Later..." feature (October 2013). She is the Co-Chair of the American Bar Association Antitrust Section Operations Committee and the former Chair of the Civil Practice and Procedure Committee. She was the chair of the Chicago Bar Association s Antitrust Law Committee. She received the National Association of Women Business Owners 2006 Corporate Woman of Achievement Award. While earning her law degree at the University of Chicago Law School, Amy won the University of Chicago Hinton Moot Court Competition before Justice Antonin Scalia of the U.S. Supreme Court. As an undergraduate, she earned departmental honors for her research thesis on The Teratogenic Effects of Alcohol Upon Raticus Albinicus Norwegicus. Community Involvement Amy is the chair of the American Diabetes Association Chicago Board and is a current member of the board. She has been the recipient of the ADA s Top Individual Fundraiser Award for the Chicago Step Out Walks in Amy also is a board member of The Institute of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. EXPERIENCE Representation of Horizon Lines, Inc. in a criminal investigation by the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice of price-fixing of ocean transportation rates between the United States mainland and Puerto Rico, Alaska and Hawaii and defense of related treble-damage actions brought by customers seeking to recover damages as a result of the alleged conspiracy. United States v. Horizon Lines, Inc. (U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico) and In Re: Puerto Rican Cabotage Antitrust Litigation MDL 1960, (U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico). Representation of Jo Tankers, Inc., a carrier of liquid chemicals in parcel tanker vessels in international cartel investigation and related treble damage actions alleging price fixing and bid rigging. In re: Parcel Tanker Antitrust Litigation (U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut 2003). Defense of multiple high-level executives in investigations by the Antitrust Division, Department of Justice. Defense of a high-level Japanese executive in an investigation by the Antitrust Division, Department of Justice. Creation and implementation of multiple international compliance programs for global companies. Representation of ADM Investor Services, Inc. in a case alleging the sale of illegal off-exchange futures contracts in violation of the Commodity Exchange Act, as well as fraud and breach of contract; and summary judgment was granted in favor of ADM Investor Services after close of discovery.
