2 SPEAKERS Lawrence Dechambenoit, Vice President Corporate Relations Africa, Rio Tinto A former Political official at the United Nations in New York, he oversaw the management of peacekeeping efforts as missions and was instrumental in mediating conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Africa s Great Lakes Region. At the UN he also served as a Senior Advisor to former Presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania and Ketumile Masire of Botswana. Prior to joining Rio Tinto Mr. Dechambenoit ran a consultancy firm that assisted corporates with their development strategies and engagement with African governments and regulators. He was also Senior Advisor at the Albright-Stonebridge group a corporate diplomacy consultancy established by former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Mr Dechambenoit is a recipient of the French Medal for National Defence with exceptional merit. He holds an MA in International Political Economy and a BA in Politics from the University of Warwick and the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. He is a board trustee of the African Leadership Network and of Big Win Philanthropy a private endowment that finances projects in Africa to accelerate demographic dividends. Sergio Piazzardi, Head of Unit Private Framework Development, Trade, Regional Integration, DG Development Cooperation (DG DEVCO), European Commission Since September 2014 Sergio Piazzardi has worked as Policy officer at the Directorate General for International Cooperation and Development of the European Commission in Brussels, dealing with the private sector in particular in the areas of extractive industries (mining), industry competitiveness and innovation, sustainable tourism and technical and vocational training and education. Over the period , Sergio was part of several EU Delegations in Central and Southern Asia and in Africa (Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Mozambique and in the Democratic Republic of Congo) as Economic Advisor, Head of Development Cooperation and Head of Infrastructures and Energy. Before joining the European Commission, Sergio worked as Technical Officer at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) in Brussels for six years. Sergio has a degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Pavia in 1986.

3 Pippa Howard, Director of the Business & Biodiversity Programme, Fauna and Flora International (FFI) Pippa Howard directs FFI s engagement with the corporate sector, leading successful programmes to both advise and steer biodiversity management whilst leveraging change through critical interventions. Pippa brokers collaboration and cooperation between business, government and civil society to address both practical and policy challenges to biodiversity conservation. Pippa provides the impetus for innovation and incubation of ground-breaking conservation solutions, taking into account the complex socio-political contexts within which she works. Through sector level engagement she works to influence change and commitment, advising the oil & gas and mining sectors through individual strategic partnerships and sector initiatives such as IPIECA and the ICMM. Pippa has led much of FFI s engagement with the financial sector through programmes and initiatives such as the Natural Value Initiative and the Forest Footprint Disclosure Project. She has developed strong working relationships with the World Bank, EBRD and the IFC through cross-sector initiatives and, more recently, with major internal Lender Banks through her work on the Oyu Tolgoi Project in Mongolia, and IFC-funded projects in Liberia, Guinea, Colombia, Uganda and Mozambique. Pippa leads all engagement with the extractive sector and is Partnership Director for relationships with BP, Repsol, Rio Tinto, Anglo American, BHP Billiton, Oyu Tolgoi, BG Group, eni SpA, and Total. Richard Morgan, Head of Government Relations, Anglo American Richard Morgan is Head of Government Relations in Anglo American based in London (joined Oct 2010). Previously Richard was Head of Public Diplomacy at the British Foreign Office ( ). He was seconded to Unilever as Head of Public Affairs for Africa, Middle East and Turkey between 2005 and Richard was posted to the British Embassy in Paris ( ), South Africa ( ) and Tokyo ( ). From 1990 to 1995 Richard was at the Foreign Office in London working in Middle East and North Africa Department and the Communications/Media team. Richard holds a Degree in modern languages from University of Oxford.

4 Anna Krutikov, Head of Sustainable Development, Glencore Anna is the head of Sustainable Development at Glencore, based in Switzerland. In this role, she leads engagement with external stakeholders, including government, investors, media and civil society on matters relating to sustainability. She is also responsible for the design and implementation of business strategies that reflect the challenges associated with the political, social and environmental landscape. Anna has been at Glencore for five years, and has worked with project teams and operations across Glencore s portfolio, including Australia, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia. Prior to joining Glencore, Anna worked at F&C Asset Management (now part of BMO Group), where she was Associate Director of Sustainable Investment, specialising in mining. Ligia Noronha, Director, Economy Division, UN Environment (UNEP) Ligia Noronha was appointed Director of UNEP, Division of Technology, Industry and Economics (DTIE - now known as Economy Division) in April Since her appointment, she has guided UN Environment, Economy Division in delivering its mandate of promoting environmental sustainability through technology, industry, and economic policy, and has led the implementation of three of UN Environment seven subprogrammes, namely climate change, chemicals and waste, and resource efficiency. Prior to joining UN Environment, Ligia Noronha served in The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) as Executive Director of Research Coordination and as Director of the Resources, Regulation and Global Security Division. From 2005 to 2011 she served as Secretary of the Asian Energy Institute and, from 2005 to 2009, as Coordinator of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnerships (REEEP), South Asia. In 2004 and 2005, she was Team Leader of Ecosystem Approaches to Human Health at the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). Ligia has served on the National Security Advisory Board of the Government of India, and on several expert committees of the Government of India and Goa, including the Expert Committee on Climate Change, the Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel, and the Task Force on Natural Resources of the Commission on Centre State Relations. In addition, she has been a member of the Planning Board of the Government of Goa and member of the Goa Jubilee Development Council, a member of Shell International s External Review Committee on Sustainability Reporting, and member of the Global Assurance Group s project on Minerals, Metal and Sustainable Development. Ligia has published internationally on issues relevant to energy and resource security, climate change, India's environmental and coastal policy, responsible mining, and resource federalism. From

5 2009 to 2011, she was a Visiting Senior Fellow at the University of Sydney based Centre for International Security Studies (CISS). She holds a Masters in Economics from the University of Bombay, a Masters in Sea Use Law, Economics, and Policy, and a PhD from the London School of Economics. Casper Sonesson, Global Policy Adviser for Extractive Industries and Sustainable Development, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Casper Sonesson is Global Policy Advisor for Extractive Industries and sustainable development at the UNDP, a position he has held since late Before that he served as Deputy Director of Private Sector at UNDP since Prior to this, he worked for over a decade to shape and develop UNDP s engagement with the private sector across a range of development areas, including economic development and job creation, environmental sustainability and crisis prevention and recovery. Casper has also worked extensively on private sector development, small enterprise development and microfinance. From he served as a member on the Executive Committee of the Donor Committee for Enterprise Development. Michal Spiechowicz, Policy Officer - Raw materials, Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW), European Commission Michal Spiechowicz is a Policy Officer in Unit 2. Resource Efficiency and Raw Materials in Dir. C Industrial Transformation and Advanced Value Chains in Deputy Director General 1 of DG GROW. Michal is responsible for the policies of DG GROW in the field of access to raw materials. Michal specialises in the development of visually synergies with more environmentally friendly policies, such as NATURA2000. He is also involved in the management of the European Innovation Partnership on Raw Materials programme. In Michal worked as a consultant on information systems in Frankfurt and in Munich, and since 2005 in the European Commission in the field of international politics for competitiveness of enterprises. Michal holds a degree in economics from the European University Viadrina, Frankfurt an der Oder.

6 MODERATOR San Bilal, Senior Executive and the Head the Economic Transformation and Trade programme at the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM) Dr. Sanoussi Bilal is a Senior Executive and the Head the Economic Transformation and Trade programme at the ECDPM in Maastricht, the Netherlands and in Brussels, Belgium, where he is based. With a background in economics and international relations, he has a PhD in international economics from the University of Birmingham (United Kingdom), a Master from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, and a Bachelor in Economics from the University of Geneva (Switzerland). Before joining ECDPM, he worked at the Overseas Development Institute (United Kingdom), the European Institute of Public Administration (the Netherlands) and the Economics Department of the University of Geneva. His expertise relates mainly to economic and trade issues for inclusive growth, regional integration processes and development, with a focus on Africa and the ACP-EU relations (including economic partnership agreements). His current activities focus on the structural transformation dynamics in Africa and financing for development, and include projects on trade and development; sustainable global value chains; EPAs; dynamics of regional integration processes in Africa; aid for trade; private sector and development; economic diplomacy; (resource-based) industrialisation; and emerging players in Africa. He is the author of numerous publications, as well as the founding editor of the magazine GREAT Insights dedicated to governance, regional integration, agriculture and trade matters. San is also a Fellow at the West African Institute.
