1 MasterCard/WFP Partnership Spokesperson Profiles MasterCard Worldwide Ann Cairns President, International Markets, MasterCard Worldwide Ann Cairns is president, International Markets for MasterCard Worldwide, responsible for the management of all markets and customer-related activities outside of the United States. As a member of the company s Executive Committee and based in London, England, Ms. Cairns leverages the company s seamless global structure and presence to the benefit of all stakeholders. Ms. Cairns brings more than 20 years of experience working in senior management positions across Europe and the U.S., running global retail and investment banking operations. Prior to joining MasterCard in August 2011, Ms. Cairns was a managing director and head of the Financial Industry Services group for Europe with Alvarez & Marsal in London. From 2008 to 2011, Cairns led the European team managing the estate of Lehman Brothers Holdings International through the Chapter 11 process. Previously, Ms. Cairns was chief executive officer, Transaction Banking at ABN-AMRO in London, where she managed a global business with over 5 billion euros in revenue in 50 countries, covering the commercial, retail and financial institutions segments, and reported to the Group Board and served on the bank s Executive Committee. Prior to joining ABN-AMRO, Ms. Cairns spent 15 years in senior operational positions at Citigroup, including chief operating officer, e-business, where she led U.S., European and Japanese operations. Ms. Cairns also served as Trustee of Charity Bank in the UK. At the start of her career, Ms. Cairns spent time as an award-winning research engineer, culminating as the head of Offshore Engineer-Planning for British Gas. Managing a team of 50 plus engineers, Ms. Cairns was the first woman qualified to go offshore in Britain. Ms. Cairns received a B.Sc. in Pure Mathematics at Sheffield University and an M.Sc in Statistics from Newcastle University, U.K. 1

2 Gaetano Carboni Global Products & Solutions Lead and General Manager Europe Region, MasterCard Worldwide Gaetano Carboni is the Global Products & Solutions lead and general manager for Europe at MasterCard Worldwide. Based in the European regional head office in Waterloo, Belgium, Mr. Carboni is responsible for developing and implementing coordinated GP&S strategies and plans for the region, including Product Development, Product Sales, Marketing, Communications and Advisors. Working with regional management and GP&S functional leads, his role is to define and prioritize GP&S activities which are in alignment with the regional priorities and customers, as well as execute integrated solutions designed to deliver top line revenue growth. Previously, Mr. Carboni was general manager of the Western Continental Europe where he was responsible for the Nordics & Baltics Subregion, Benelux, France, Portugal and Spain as well as Santander, the global account headquartered in this market. Before that, he was general manager European Regional Accounts and Sales Development. This combined managing MasterCard strategic customer relationships with Europe s largest banks, with developing business with MasterCard Europe Tier 3 accounts, approximately 250 banks across 33 different countries. Mr. Carboni was general manager for Southern Europe from 2000 to In this capacity, Mr. Carboni oversaw all MasterCard efforts to support the Southern European MasterCard customers in 16 countries. Mr. Carboni joined MasterCard in 1991 to open the Italian office, after 11 years at the Italian Bankers Association, where he was head of Payment Products responsible for interbank initiatives aimed at replacing cash. Prior to that position, he served as deputy head of the International Markets Department. At the Italian Bankers Association, Mr. Carboni also held different positions in the Economic Research Department. Mr. Carboni graduated in 1978 in Political and Economic studies, with honors, at the University of Rome La Sapienza. In 1979 he completed a Master in European Politics and Economics, with honors, at the Istituto di Studi Europei Alcide De Gasperi. 2

3 Serge Simonet Group Head, WFP Partnership Global Lead, MasterCard Worldwide Serge Simonet is MasterCard Global Lead for the partnership with World Food Programme. In this role, Mr. Simonet is responsible for managing the relationship with World Food Programme and coordinating all activities on the MasterCard side to ensure the strategic objectives of this partnership are met. This responsibility includes working with WFP headquarters, regional and country teams as well as with the different functional and geographical groups within MasterCard in order to drive engagement, alignment and consistency of action between the 2 organisations in the different parts of the world. Since he joined MasterCard in 1993, Mr. Simonet has held a number of management positions, from group head of Customer Delivery Development, group head of Processing Contracts, Regional Vice President for Technology & Operations Europe, head of processing Europe, and head of Customer Implementation Services Europe. Prior to joining MasterCard, Mr. Simonet worked 6 years in the telecommunications industry, first on European research programmes with the University of Namur, Alcatel and formerly Telindus/Telinfo, then as Programme Manager at SPAG, a European consortium of IT manufacturers. Mr. Simonet holds a degree in Economics and a master in Information Technology from the University of Namur, Belgium. 3

4 The United Nations World Food Programme Ertharin Cousin Executive Director, the United Nations World Food Programme Ertharin Cousin began her tenure as the twelfth Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme on 5 April Cousin brings more than twenty-five years of national and international nonprofit, government, and corporate leadership experience focusing on hunger, food, and resilience strategies. Cousin guides the World Food Programme in meeting urgent food needs while championing longer-term solutions to food insecurity and hunger. As the leader of the world s largest humanitarian organization with approximately 15,000 staff serving about 100 million beneficiaries in 78 countries across the world, she is an exceptional advocate for improving the lives of hungry people worldwide, and travels extensively to raise awareness of food insecurity and chronic malnutrition. In 2009, Ertharin Cousin was nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be the United States Ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture, and head of the U.S. Mission to the U.N. Agencies in Rome. During her nearly three years as the chief U.S. diplomatic voice for famine relief and hunger solutions, Cousin helped guide U.S. and international policy around some of the most devastating and lifethreatening situations in the world. She advocated for aid strategies that integrate a transition from relief to development, including following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, and for country-led sustainable agriculture programmes, particularly in the aftermath of the 2010 flooding in Pakistan and in response to the 2011 drought in the Horn of Africa. As the U.S. Representative in Rome, she played a significant role in advocating for improved collaboration among, and promoting gender parity and mainstreaming in, the three Rome-based food and agriculture agencies the Food and Agriculture Organization, the International Fund for Agriculture Development and the World Food Programme. During her tenure, she actively participated in reforming the Committee on World Food Security, enlarging the multi-stakeholder platform and helping to introduce a resultsbased framework. In 2011, she also assumed the presidency of the International Development Law Organization s Assembly of Parties. Cousin worked in the Administration of U.S. President Bill Clinton for four years, including serving as White House Liaison to the State Department, and received a White House appointment to the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development. Cousin served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Feeding America (then known as America s Second Harvest), the largest domestic hunger organization in the United States. She led the organization s response to Hurricane Katrina, an effort that resulted in the distribution of various relief supplies, including food, to those in need across the Gulf Coast region of the United States. Cousin has significant background in the retail food sector, leading government communications and community affairs for two large U.S. grocery chains, Albertsons Foods and Jewell Foods. While working for Albertsons, she served as President and Chair of the company s corporate foundation, managing the organization s philanthropic activities. Cousin is a native of Chicago and a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Georgia School of Law. She is a published author and accomplished speaker on food insecurity and chronic malnutrition. She is based in Rome, Italy. 4

5 Jay Aldous Director, Private Sector Partnerships, the United Nations World Food Programme Jay Aldous is Director, Private Sector Partnerships at the United Nations World Food Programme in Rome, Italy. Aldous has more than two decades of experience in developing and managing partnerships within the private and social sectors. Prior to his appointment at the World Food Programme he was Chief Strategist for Social Capital Partnerships, where he advised international nonprofit organisations on the creation of public private partnerships that achieve mission impact. Clients included Habitat for Humanity International, Doctors Without Borders, Special Olympics International, Ronald McDonald House Charities, American Red Cross and World Wildlife Fund. Previous, Aldous was with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, where he was Chief Marketing and Communications Officer. There he created UNICEF's call-to-action campaign, Believe in Zero, and UNICEF s award winning clean water initiative, the Tap Project. Aldous was recognized as the 2008 Nonprofit Marketer of the Year by the American Marketing Association for his lifetime of leadership and achievement in the field of nonprofit marketing. Aldous is the past world record holder for bicycling around the world (14,290 miles in 106 days). He holds the current world record for running100 miles (13:52:45). 5

6 Jean-Philippe Chauzy Director, Office of Communications, the United Nations World Food Programme Jean-Philippe Chauzy has more than 23 years communication experience as the Spokesperson for the Director General s Office and Head of Media and Communications at the International Organization for Migration and as a Senior broadcast journalist for the BBC World Service. Over the past 13 years, he has directed IOM s global communications strategy with measurable impact and led IOM s crisis communication responses in all major humanitarian emergencies. As a key member of IOM s Senior Management team, he regularly advised the Director General and Senior Staff on all matters relating to communications and provided policy guidance, particularly on reputation management.. His ten years with the BBC World Service as a Senior Producer/Editor and regional correspondent gave him a solid understanding of social, economic and political dynamics in Africa, which he covered extensively throughout the 1990s. His experience as a journalist in West Africa, the Great Lakes and the Horn of Africa has exposed him the complexities and challenges of providing humanitarian assistance to address the needs of the most vulnerable. Throughout his career, Jean-Philippe has succeeded in creating and nurturing strong, loyal and motivated teams, which have always surpassed expectations, particularly in times of crisis. He has a strong track record as someone who fosters productive working relationships with representatives of governments, partner UN agencies and non-governmental organizations as well as the media. His personal bi-cultural and bi-lingual background (French/English) and his international experience have given him the confidence to promote an open dialogue in a respectful environment. His management style is team-oriented and cooperative. Over the years, he has developed a structured and analytical approach to complex challenges and is comfortable providing authoritative policy advice to senior officials. 6
