Resources, a firm which provides consulting, strategic planning, and training to credit unions from coast-to-coast. TEAM Resources' clients range from a few million in assets to the billions in assets. Tim was formerly the Chairman of the Board of a $150 million credit union in Tucson, Arizona. He was appointed to the Board of this troubled credit union in 2001 and served until During his time on the Board, the credit union evolved from losing over $2,000,000 per year to becoming the strong and profitable financial institution today. Tim was formerly an Associate Partner with the nation's 3rd largest auditor of credit unions. His previous experience also includes internal control operational audits and computer conversions, as well as audit experience for other industries. Burke, CPA, CRP, CFF, CFS Partner Crowe Horwath LLP Jennifer is a partner in Crowe s Financial Services Risk practice and is responsible for Crowe s Enterprise Risk Management methodology for financial services. Jennifer has more than 25 years of experience serving financial services clients, including 18 years with Crowe. As a leader in risk services delivery at Crowe, Jennifer has led multiple projects at multi-billion dollar financial institutions providing internal audit, compliance, loan review and ERM services. She was responsible for the development of Crowe s internal audit outsourcing approach and tools for financial institutions, and serves as subject matter expert in several areas, including lending and deposit operations, trust, correspondent and retail banking. Serving as a partner on strategic engagements, Jennifer has worked with senior management and Boards to remediate regulatory consent order deficiencies while strengthening Board governance. Jennifer serves on the North Carolina State Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Initiative Advisory Board and the Institute of Internal Auditors Financial Services Advisory Board. She is a nationally and internationally recognized speaker on banking issues, internal auditing, and enterprise risk management. Prior to joining Crowe, SVP and Corporate Auditor for a multi-billion 10-bank holding and trust company leading internal audit, loan review and compliance areas.
8 SESSION TITLE: NCUA Update: Preparing Your Credit Union for Evolving Regulations and Future Exams Bob LeConte, NCUA Supervisory Examiner Bob graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, with a degree in Accounting in 1984 and worked in public accounting for two years before joining NCUA in Bob joined NCUA as an examiner in Chicago and was also an Insurance Analyst in the Chicago Regional Office. In 1990 Bob moved to Austin to take the position of Director of Accounting with NCUA s Liquidation Center (AMAC). In 1999 he was selected for the position of Director of Insurance in Region IV Austin and since January 2000, he has served as Supervisory Examiner in Austin.
9 SESSION TITLE: The Changing Face of Banking and the Credit Union Industry Dr. Stephen Happel, Emeritus Professor of Economics Arizona State University W.P. Carey School of Business Dr. Stephen Happel is an Emeritus Professor of Economics at the Arizona State University W.P. Carey School of Business, where he has taught there since He grew up in Quincy, Illinois, received a B.A. in mathematics and economics from the University of Missouri in 1969, an M.A. from Duke in 1972, and a Ph.D. in economics from Duke in Dr. Happel is founding director of the ASU School of Business Honors Program and served as Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies from 1991 to His research focuses on applied microeconomics and demographic issues. Dr. Happel has received many teaching awards at ASU, including the ASU Distinguished Teaching Award, the Burlington Northern Award, and Arizona Professor of the Year selected by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. He has recently taught both large undergraduate classes in macroeconomics and MBA classes in managerial economics. He is also a longtime instructor at the Pacific Coast Banking School in Seattle and the Arizona Tax Institute. He speaks throughout the U.S. on the domestic economy and international trends, paying particular attention to generational spending patterns, to recent Federal Reserve policy, and to current tax/spending proposals by the White House and Congress.
10 SESSION TITLE: Using Collaboration to Minimize Internal Fraud Losses Joni Lovingood, CRM, CFE, Corporate PNC Sales Specialist, CUNA Mutual Group Joni Lovingood is a Senior Consultant in the Credit Union Protection Risk Management Division for CUMIS Insurance Society, the property and casualty company of CUNA Mutual Group. Joni assists credit unions in identifying areas of risk in their operations and recommends appropriate controls to reduce loss exposures. She is also responsible for ensuring the completion of the Fidelity Analysis Program, designed to detect ongoing embezzlements. She joined CUNA Mutual Group in 1997 as a Loss Prevention Specialist and was promoted to a Risk Management Specialist Joni became a Senior Risk Management Specialist in 2001, and she was promoted to Risk Manager- Product Expert in Prior to joining CUNA Mutual Group, Joni was a Senior Auditor for American Share Insurance, a private insurer for state chartered credit unions.
11 SESSION TITLE: Making Sense of Financial Statements and Key Financial Metrics Michael Richards, CPA, Proprietor & Managing Associate Richards & Associates Mike Richards is a CPA licensed in the state of California. He joined Richards & Associates in 1973 after graduating from California State University Los Angeles with a degree in Business Administration. In 1981, he became managing partner of the firm, which has grown to be the second largest accounting firm in the state of California specializing in credit union audits. Known for his fraud prevention expertise, Richards has researched and prepared numerous fidelity bond claims throughout the years. He has also served as a consultant for CUNA Mutual Group. He facilitates approximately 20 strategic planning sessions each year.
12 SESSION TITLE: A View of Indirect Lending Through Auditors Eyes Daniel C. Moulton, CPA, Partner, Orth, Chakler, Murnane & Co. CPAs Dan Moulton is a partner with Orth, Chakler, Murnane and Company specializing in serving credit unions and their service organizations. He has over 30 years of experience in the credit union industry, including over 12 years with O Rourke Sacher and Moulton and its successor, McGladrey and Pullen. Dan spent 18 years with the Texas Credit Union League, where he served as Vice President and Director of Auditing Services. He was responsible for overseeing approximately 250 credit union audits. His expertise in areas such as fraud investigation, accounting systems, and technical issues is well known to credit unions in the Southwest.
13 SESSION TITLE: Increased Regulations and How to Cope Dan Mahalak, CPA, Cindrich, Mahalak & Co., P.C. Dan Mahalak is a principal of the firm of Cindrich, Mahalak and Company. He joined the firm in 1980 upon graduating from Eastern Michigan University and became a partner in He is the firm s Principal Shareholder and is responsible for all its activities. Throughout his tenure, Dan has been responsible for hundreds of credit union audits, and worked in fraud/embezzlement investigations, including filing bond claims, working with authorities, and testifying in criminal proceedings. He also works with credit unions in budgeting and forecasting, asset-liability management consulting, strategic planning, human resources consulting, and regulatory consulting.

Inst., CliftonLarsonAllen LLP Greg Schwartz is a partner with CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, formerly LarsonAllen LLP. Since 2000, he has focused on performing audits, internal audits and consulting services exclusively for credit unions and credit union related organizations. From 1983 to 2000, he was with McGladrey & Pullen, LLP where he was involved in credit union audits, internal audit and enterprise risk assessments. Prior to that he was with Firstbank System where he gained experience in all areas of retail banking and backroom operation. Greg is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants and AICPA National Credit Union Conference Planning Committee. His professional certifications include Certified Public Accountant in Minnesota and Certified Public Accountant /Mobility Permit in most other states.
15 SESSION TITLE: A New Framework for Risk-Based Capital and Strategic Implications Travis Smith, Partner, Moss Adams LLP Travis has been in public accounting since 1996 and is the leader of the firm s Financial Institutions Practice in our Phoenix office. He has served hundreds of financial services companies across the United States and is a frequent presenter at conferences. Travis serves a wide range of health care organizations, including large integrated health systems, stand-alone hospitals, managed care organizations, and ancillary service organizations, providing them with assistance regarding strategic management, debt financing, cash flow projections, budgeting projects, and complex financial instruments. Travis consults with his clients on de novo formation, SEC registration, internal audit, SOX compliance, and initial public offerings. He also serves as the engagement partner for complex engagements, supervises staff, conducts audits of HUD reporting entities, and performs merger and acquisition due diligence. In addition, he has extensive experience with complex investments, fair value, derivatives, and hedging activities.
